193 I Thumbnail Playback To display images in “contact sheets” of four, nine, or 72 images, press the W (S ) button. 194 I Calendar Playback To view images taken on a selected date, press the W (S ) button when 72 images are displayed. The operations can be performed depend on whether the cursor is in the date list or the thumbnail list: Full-frame playback Thumbnail playback Calendar playback ToUseDescription Toggle between date list and thumbnail list W (S )/J Press W (S ) or J button in date list to place cursor in thumbnail list. Press W (S ) again to return to date list. Exit to thumbnail playback/Zoom in on highlighted photo X (T )• Date list : Exit to 72-frame playback. • Thumbnail list : Press and hold X (T ) button to zoom in on highlighted picture. Highlight dates/ Highlight images • Date list : Highlight date. • Thumbnail list : Highlight picture. Toggle full frame playback J •Thumbnail list : View highlighted picture. 195 I Taking a Closer Look: Playback Zoom Press the X (T ) button to zoom in on the image displayed in full-frame playback or on the image currently high lighted in thumbnail playback. The following operations can be performed while zoom is in effect: ToUseDescription Zoom in or out X (T )/ W (S ) Press X (T ) to zoom in to maximum of approximately 38× (large images in 24 × 16/DX format), 28× (medium images) or 19× (small images). Press W (S ) to zoom out. While photo is zoomed in, use multi selector to view areas of image not visible in monitor. Keep multi selector pressed to scroll rapidly to other areas of frame. Navigation window is displayed when zoom ratio is altered; area currently visible in monitor is indicated by yellow border. View other areas of image Select faces Faces (up to 35) detected during zoom are indicated by white borders in navigation window. Rotate sub- command dial to view other faces. View other images Rotate main command dial to view same location in other photos at current zoom ratio. Playback zoom is cancelled when a movie is displayed. Change protect status L (U ) See page 196 for more information. Return to shooting mode / KMonitor will turn off. Photographs can be taken immediately. Retouch photo PCreate retouched copy of current photograph ( 0273).
196 I Protecting Photographs from Deletion In full-frame, zoom, thumbnail, and calendar playback, the L (U ) button can be used to protect photographs from accidental deletion. Protected files can not be deleted using the O (Q ) button or the Delete option in the playback menu. Note that protected images will be deleted when the memory card is formatted ( 032, 262). To protect a photograph: 1Select an image. Display the image in full-frame playback or playback zoom or highlight it in the thumbnail list in thumbnail or calendar playback. 2Press the L (U ) button. The photograph will be marked with a P icon. To remove protection from the photograph so that it can be deleted, display the photograph or highlight it in the thumbnail list and then press the L (U ) button. Full-frame playback Thumbnail playback Calendar playback ARemoving Protection from All Images To remove protection from all images in the folder or folders currently selected in the Playback folder menu, press the L (U ) and O (Q ) buttons together for about two seconds during playback. 197 I Deleting Photographs To delete the photograph displayed in full-frame playback or highlighted in the thumbnail list, press the O (Q ) button. To delete multiple selected photographs, all photographs taken on a selected date, or all photographs in the current playback folder, use the Delete option in the playback menu. Once deleted, photographs can not be recovered. Note that pictures that are protected or hidden can not be deleted. Full-Frame, Thumbnail, and Calendar Playback Press the O (Q ) button to delete th e current photograph. 1Select an image. Display the image or highlight it in the thumbnail list in thumbnail or calendar playback. 2Press the O (Q ) button. A confirmation dialog will be displayed. 3Press the O (Q ) button again. To delete the photograph, press the O (Q ) button. To exit without deleting the photograph, press the K button. 198 I The Playback Menu The Delete option in the playback menu contains the following options. Note that depending on the number of images, some time may be required for deletion. ❚❚ Selected: Deleting Selected Photographs 1Choose Selected for the Delete option in the playback menu. Press the G button and select Delete in the playback menu. Highlight Selected and press 2. 2Highlight a picture. Use the multi selector to highlight a picture (to view the highlighted picture full screen, press and hold the X (T ) button; to view images in other locations, hold the D button, press 1, and select the desired card and folder as descri bed on page 186). 3Select the highlighted picture. Press the W (S ) button to select the highlighted picture. Selected pictures are marked by a O icon. Repeat Steps 2 and 3 to select additional pictures; to deselect a picture, highlight it and press W (S ). In the delete menu, highlight Select date and press 2. 2Highlight a date. Press 1 or 3 to highlight a date. To view the pictures taken on the highlighted date, press W (S ). Use the multi selector to scroll through the pictures, or press and hold X (T ) to view the current picture full screen. Press W (S ) to return to the date list. 3Select the highlighted date. Press 2 to select all pictures taken on the highlighted date. Selected dates are marked with a M icon. Repeat Steps 2 and 3 to select additional dates; to deselect a date, highlight it and press 2. 4Press J to complete the operation. A confirmation dialog will be displayed; highlight Ye s and press J. 201 Q Q Connections Install the supplied software to display and edit photographs and movies that have been copied to your computer. Before installing ViewNX 2, confirm that your computer meets the system requirements on page 202. Be sure to use the latest version of ViewNX 2, which is available for download from the websites listed on page xxvi, as earlier versions that do not suppor t the D7100 may fail to transfer NEF (RAW ) images correctly. 1Launch the installer. Start the computer, insert the ViewNX 2 installer CD, and launch the installer. 2Select a language. If the desired language is not available, click Region Selection to choose a different region and then choose the desired language (region selection is not available in the European release). 3Start the installer.
