Share a Storage Device Attached to the Router 61 N600 WiFi Dual Band Gigabit Router USB Device Requirements The router works with most USB-compliant external flash and hard drives.\ For the most up-to-date list of USB devices that the router supports, visit http://kbserver.netgear.com/readyshare . Some USB external hard drives and flash drives require you to load the d\ rivers onto the computer before the computer can access the USB device. Such USB devices\ do not work with the router . The router supports the following file system types for full read/write \ access: • F AT16 •F AT32 •NTFS • NTFS with compression format enabled • Ext2 • Ext3 • Ext4 • HFS • HFS+ Connect a USB Device to the Router ReadySHARE lets you access and share a USB device connected to the route\ r USB port. Connect your USB storage device to the router USB port. 2. If your USB device uses a power supply , connect it. You must use the power supply when you connect the USB device to the rout\ er.

By default, the USB device is available to all computers on your local area network (LAN). Access an Storage Device Connected to the Router From a computer or device on the network, you can access a storage device that is connected to the router. To access the device from a Mac: 1. Connect a USB storage device to the appropriate router USB port. If your storage device uses a power supply, you must use it when you connect the device to the router. When you connect the storage device to the router’s port, it might take up to two minutes before it is ready for sharing. By default, the device is available to all computers on your local area network (LAN) 2. On a Mac that is connected to the network, launch Finder and select Go > Connect to Server. The Connect to Server screen displays. 3. In the Server Address field, enter smb://readyshare. 4. When prompted, select the Guest radio button. If you set up access control on the router and you allowed your Mac to access the network, select the Registered User radio button and enter admin for the name and password for the password. For more information about access control, see Allow or Block Access to Your Network on page 50. 5. Click the Connect button. A screen automatically opens and displays the files and folders on the device. To access the device from a Windows computer: 1. Connect a USB storage device to the router USB port. V isit www.netgear.com/readyshare. 2. In the ReadySHARE USB Storage Access pane, click the PC Utility link. The readyshareconnect.exe file is downloaded to your computer . 3. Launch readyshareconnect.exe. 4. Select the drive letter to map to the network folder. 5. T o connect to the device as a different user, select the Connect using different credentials check box and do the following: a. T ype the user name and password. b. Click the OK button. 6. Click the Finish button. The device is mapped to the drive letter that you specified. Control Access to a Storage Device You can specify the device name, workgroups, and network folders for a st\ orage device connected to the router USB port. To specify the storage device access settings: 1. Launch a web browser from a computer or wireless device that is connecte\ d to the network. 2. This is the name used to access the device connected to the router.

Select the check boxes for the access methods that you want: -Network Neighborhood/MacShare. Enabled by default. -HTTP. Enabled by default. You can type http://readyshare.routerlogin.net/shares to access the storage device. -HTTP (via Internet). Disabled by default. If you enable this feature, remote users can type http:// (for example, http://1.1.10.102/shares) or a URL domain name to access the device over the Internet. This feature supports file uploading only. -FTP. Disabled by default. -FTP (via Internet). Disabled by default. If you select this check box, remote users can access the device through FTP over the Internet. This feature supports both downloading and uploading of files. 6. If you changed the settings, click the Apply button. Your change is saved.

A login screen displays. 3. Enter the router user name and password. The user name is admin. The default password is password. The user name and password are case-sensitive. Scroll down to the Available Networks Folder section of the screen and view or adjust the following settings: • Share Name. The default share name is USB_Storage. You can click the name or you can type it in the address field of your we\ b browser. If Not Shared is shown, the default share was deleted and no other share fo\ r the root folder exists. Click the link to change this setting. • Read Access and Write Access. Show the permissions and access controls on the network folder. All–no password (the default) allows all users to access the networ\ k folder. The password for admin is the same one that you use to log in to the rou\ ter. • Folder Name. Full path of the network folder .

Show the current utilization of the storage device. Add a Network Folder on a Storage Device You can add network folders on a storage device connected to the router U\ SB port. To add a network folder: 1. Launch a web browser from a computer or wireless device that is connecte\ d to the network. 2. T ype http://www.routerlogin.net or http://www.routerlogin.com . A login screen displays. 3. Enter the router user name and password. The user name is admin. The default password is password . The user name and password are case-sensitive. If this screen does not display, your web browser might be blocking pop-ups. If it is, change the browser settings to allow pop-ups. 7. Complete the fields. The user name (account name) for All–no password is guest. The password for admin is the same one that is used to log in to the router. By default, it is pas\ sword. 8. Click the Apply button. The folder is added on the storage device. Edit a Network Folder on a Storage Device You can edit network folders on storage devices connected to the router U\ SB port. To edit a network folder: 1. Launch a web browser from a computer or wireless device that is connecte\ d to the network. 2. T ype http://www.routerlogin.net or http://www.routerlogin.com . A login screen displays. 3. Use the Router as a ReadyDLNA Media Server The router can act as a ReadyDLNA media server, which lets you view movies and photos on DLNA/UPnP AV-compliant media players, such as Xbox360, Playstation, and NETGEAR media players.
