You can turn the wireless radios on and off with the WiFi On/Off button on the router, or you
can log in to the router and enable or disable the wireless radios. If you are close to the
router, it might be easier to press its WiFi On/Off button. If you are away from the router or
already logged in it might be easier to enable or disable them. You can also turn the WiFi
radios off and on based on a schedule. (See

Use the Router as a Wireless Access Point
You can set up the router to run as an access point (AP) on the same lo\
    cal network as another router.
To set up the router as an AP:
    1. Use an Ethernet cable to connect the Internet port of this router to a L\
    AN port in the
    other router

    .
Cable this port to a LAN port

    • Get dynamically from existing router .
The other router on the network assigns an
IP address to this router while this router is in AP mode.
    • Enable fixed IP settings on this device (not recommended) . Use this setting if you
want to manually assign a specific IP address to this router while it is\
     in
     AP mode.
Using this option effectively requires advanced network experience.
Note: To avoid interference with other routers or gateways in your network,
NETGEAR recommends that you use different wireless settings on
each router. You can also turn off the wireless radio on the other route\
    r
or gateway and use the WNDR3700v5 router only for wireless client
    access.

    11. Use VPN to Access Your Network
You can use OpenVPN software to remotely access your router using virtual private networking
(VPN). This chapter explains how to set up and use VPN access.
This chapter includes the following sections:
    •Set Up a VPN Connection
•Specify VPN Service in the Router
•Install OpenVPN Software on Your Computer
•Use VPN to Access the Router’s USB Device and Media
•Use VPN to Access Your Internet Service at Home

    Secure
    remote access
    InternetOpen VPN Client

Figure 8. VPN provides a secure tunnel between your home network and a r\
    emote computer
This type of VPN access is called a client-to-gateway tunnel. The computer is the client, and
the router is the gateway. To use the VPN feature, you must log in to the router and enable
VPN, and you must install and run VPN client software on the computer.
Note: The router currently does not support iOS or Android VPN client
    software.
VPN uses DDNS or a static IP address to connect with your router.
To use a DDNS service, register for an account with a host name (sometim\
    es called a domain name).
You use the host name to access your network. The router supports these
accounts: NETGEAR, No-IP, and Dyn. See Dynamic DNS on page
      75.
If your Internet service provider (ISP) assigned a static WAN IP address to your Internet
account (such as 50.196.x.x or 10.x.x.x) that never changes, the VPN c\
    an use that IP
address to connect to your home network.
