2If loading print media with a different width or length, adjust the width and length guides.
3Flex the sheets back and forth to loosen them, then fan them. Do not fold or crease the print media. Straighten the 
edges on a level surface.
4Load print media in the tray with the print side down.
Place pre-punched paper with the holes toward the left side of the tray.
Place letterhead (or the top of the page) toward the front of the tray.
5Insert the tray into the high capacity feeder.

Loading Letter or A4 size print media in the short-edge feed 
orientation
For the MFP to recognize Letter or A4 size print media loaded in the short-edge feed orientation, Short-edge Printing must 
be enabled.
1Make sure the MFP is off.
2Press and hold the keypad buttons 2 and 6 while you turn the MFP on.
3Release both buttons when Performing Self Test appears on the display.
The MFP performs its power-on sequence, and then the configuration menu appears on the display.
4Press  until Short-edge Printing appears, and then press the   to the right of Short-edge Printing.
5Press  until you see Enable, and then press Submit.
Submitting Change appears on the display.
6Press Back.
7Press Exit Config Menu.
Rebooting the Device appears on the display.
Setting up trays with different orientations
We recommend that you use the custom type settings to differentiate print media of the same size with different 
orientations. For example, if you want to have letter-size paper loaded into both standard trays, but one in the long-edge 
orientation and one in the short-edge orientation, you could set up the trays as follows:
Tray 1: Long-edge Fed; Paper Size=Letter; Paper Type=Plain
Tray 2: Short-edge Fed; Paper Size=Letter; Paper Type=Custom Type 1
By setting the MFP menus like this, you can easily choose which orientation you want to use for a print job by selecting the 
appropriate tray.
Changing the Custom Type Name
You can use the MFP Embedded Web Server or MarkVision™ to define a name other than Custom Type [x] for each of 
the custom media types that are loaded. When a custom name is defined for a Custom Type, then the MFP displays this 
name wherever it would normally display Custom Type [x].
To define a custom name using the Embedded Web Server:
1Open the MFP Embedded Web Server by typing its IP address in the address bar of a browser. For example:

2Click Configuration.
3Click PAPER MENU.
4Click CUSTOM NAMES.
5Define one or more custom names.
For example, you could enter names such as “Short-edge Letter” or “Yellow Glossy.”
6Click Submit.
Linking trays
Tray linking enables the automatic linking feature for trays when you load the same size and type of print media in multiple 
sources. The MFP automatically links the trays; when one tray is empty, print media feeds from the next linked tray.
For example, if you have the same size and type of print media loaded in tray 2 and tray 4, the MFP selects print media from 
tray 2 until it becomes empty, and then the MFP automatically feeds print media from the next linked tray—tray 4.
By linking all trays (standard and optional), you effectively create a single source with a capacity of up to 4,100 sheets.
Make sure you load the same size and type of print media in each tray and then, using the Paper menu, set the same paper 
size and type for the trays to link.
Set the paper size and type for each tray. See Setting the Paper Type and Paper Size for more information.
To disable tray linking, set the Paper Type to a unique value for each tray.
If all the trays do not have the same type of print media loaded when linked, you could mistakenly print a job on the wrong 
paper.

There is one standard output bin on all MFP models. If you need additional output capacity, the optional finisher provides up 
to 3500 sheets of additional output capacity.

media. The MFP provides high quality printing on a variety of media. A number of things must be considered concerning 
media before printing. This chapter provides information on making media selections and caring for media.
