Installing an option card 91 Installing and removing options Installing an option card The MFP has one connector that supports the following option cards: •MarkNet N8000 series internal print server •RS-232 Serial Interface Card •Parallel 1284-B Interface Card •Coax/Twinax Adapter for SCS Warning:Option cards are easily damaged by static electricity. Touch something metal such as the MFP frame before you touch an option card. 1Locate the card connectors on the system board. 2Remove the screw and the cover plate, and save them. 3Unpack the card. Save the packaging materials. 4Align the connection points on the card with the connector on the system board, and push the card firmly into the system board connector. 5Insert the screw saved from the cover plate (or the extra screw shipped with the card). 6Tighten the screw to secure the card. 3Screw Cover plate Downloaded From ManualsPrinter.com Manuals

Determining the status of supplies 94 Maintaining the MFP Determining the status of supplies The MFP control panel alerts you once a supply item or maintenance is required. The Print status message bar at the bottom of the touch screen indicates if the MFP is Ready and lets you know if any supplies are low or empty. Touching Status / Supplies on the bottom of the touch screen will open the Status / Supplies screen where you can view the status of the various trays and other supply items. Conserving supplies 95 Maintaining the MFP Conserving supplies Several settings in your application software or through the touch screen let you conserve toner and paper. For more information on changing these settings, see the Menus and Messages Guide on the Software and DocumentationCD. Ordering supplies To order supplies in the U.S., contact Lexmark at 1-800-539-6275 for information about Lexmark Authorized Supplies Dealers in your area. In other countries or regions, visit the Lexmark Web site at www.lexmark.com, or contact the place where you bought the MFP. Ordering a print cartridge When the 88 Toner is low message appears or when you experience faded print, remove the toner cartridge. Firmly shake it side-to-side and front-to-back several times to redistribute the toner, then reinsert it and continue printing. Repeat this procedure multiple times until the print remains faded. When the print remains faded, replace the print cartridge. Have a new cartridge available when the current one no longer prints satisfactorily. Combined with the duplex setting, Multipage Print lets you print up to 32 pages on one sheet of paper (16 images on the front and 16 on the back). Use your software application or MFP driver to send a Verify Print job.Lets you examine the first copy of a multiple-copy job to be sure it is satisfactory before you print the other copies. Ordering supplies 97 Maintaining the MFP You can use the packing material from the new cartridge to ship the old cartridge back to Lexmark for recycling. See Recycling Lexmark products for more information. Ordering a maintenance kit 80 Scheduled maintenance advised appears on the display after 300,000 pages have printed to let you know it is time to replace MFP maintenance items. Order a maintenance kit when 80 Scheduled maintenance advised first appears on the display. The maintenance kit contains all the items necessary to replace the pick rollers, the charge roll, transfer roller, and the fuser. Note:Using certain types of media may require more frequent replacement of the maintenance kit. Although the charge roll, transfer roller, and pick rollers are contained within the maintenance kit, they should also be individually ordered and replaced as necessary. See the following table for the maintenance kit part number for your specific MFP. Ordering pick rollers Order Lexmark part number 40X0070.Order new pick rolls when the paper fails to properly feed from the tray. When ordering pick rollers, you need one set per input tray excluding the multipurpose feeder. Ordering an ADF pick mechanism Order Lexmark part number 40X0453.Order a new pick mechanism if you experience problems with paper double-feeding through the automatic document feeder or if you have scanned 120,000 pages. Cleaning the scanner glass and backing material 99 Maintaining the MFP Cleaning the scanner glass and backing material 1Open the document cover. 2Dampen a clean, lint-free cloth or cotton swab with isopropyl alcohol (95%). 3Wipe the scanner glass and backing material by moving the cloth or swab from side to side. 4Open the scan unit access door. 5Wipe the scanner glass and backing material by moving the cloth or swab from side to side. 6Close the scan unit access door. 7Close the document cover. Scanner registration 100 Maintaining the MFP Scanner registration Scanner Registration is a process to align the scan area with the paper location. Two pieces of either letter or A4 darkcolored paper are needed for this process. 1Turn the MFP off. 2Open the document cover. 3Clean the scanner glass and backing material. For more information, see Cleaning the scanner glass and backing material. 4Hold down the number 2 and number 6 keys on the numeric pad. 5Continue to hold the buttons, and turn the MFP on. Hold the buttons for about 10 seconds while the MFP is powering up, then release the buttons. The MFP will enter the Configuration menu. 6Touch the down arrow until Automatic Scanner Registration appears. 7Touch Automatic Scanner Registration. 8Load the dark colored paper. aPlace a blank piece of dark colored paper (A4 or Letter) on the flatbed. Position the paper so it is aligned with the upper corner of the plastic guides. bClose the document cover. cPlace a blank piece of dark colored paper (A4 or Letter) in the ADF, and adjust the guides. Make sure the paper guides are snug against the paper; do not bend the paper. 9Press Start. The registration process will scan the pages in the flatbed and ADF, and then display a sucess or failure message. If a failure message appeared, do another scanner registration, realign the paper, and verify each step as it is performed. If a second failure message appears, contact an authorized service representative. 10Touch Exit Configuration Menu. The printer will reboot and return to the home page.
