Maintenance 8-2OPERATION GUIDE Cleaning the Copier CAUTION: Remove the power plug from the outlet during cleaning operations as a safety precaution. Cleaning the Original Cover Open the Original Cover and use a cloth dampened with alcohol or a dilute neutral detergent to clean the underside of the Original Cover. IMPORTANT: Do not use thinner, organic solvents etc. Cleaning the Platen Open the Original Cover and use a cloth dampened with alcohol or a dilute neutral detergent to clean the Platen. IMPORTANT: Do not use thinner, organic solvents etc. Cleaning the Slit Glass When black streaks appear on copies when using the optional Document Processor, this means that the Slit Glass (a) is dirty. Use a soft dry cloth to clean the slit glass. IMPORTANT: Do not use water, thinner, organic solvents, alcohol, etc. * Refer to Replacing the Toner Container and Waste Toner Box on page 8-5 for instructions for cleaning the inside of the copier. Maintenance OPERATION GUIDE8-3 Cleaning the Separation Pawl 1Open the front cover. 2Remove the cleaning brush. 3Grasp the Left Cover handles to lift the cover and open it. 4Brush from the left side to the right side along the separation pawl as shown in the illustration to remove any dirt or dust. 5Close the left cover. Maintenance 8-4OPERATION GUIDE Cleaning the Transfer Rollers 1Open the front cover. 2Remove the cleaning brush. 3Grasp the Left Cover handles to lift the cover and open it. 4Turn the Left Transport Roller gear as shown in the illustration and move the brush from left to right while turning the gear to remove any dust or dirt on the rollers. 5Close the left cover. Maintenance OPERATION GUIDE8-5 Replacing the Toner Container and Waste Toner Box When the Add Toner Indicator on the Operation Panel lights up and the copier stops, replace the Toner. Replace the Waste Toner Box at the same time you replace the Toner Container. • Replenish the Toner only when the Add Toner Indicator lights up or blinks. • Whenever the Toner Container is changed, always carry out the procedures listed from Step 7 on page8-7 through Step 11 on page8- 8. If any section is left dirty, the performance of the product cannot be maintained. CAUTION: Do not attempt to incinerate the toner cartridge or waste toner box. Doing so will generate sparks and may lead to burns. Do not try to force open or crush the toner container or waste toner box. 1Open the front cover. 2Push the Waste Toner Box holder to the left and remove the Waste Toner Box while pushing the holder. IMPORTANT: Do not invert the old Waste Toner Box. WARNING: The electrically charged section inside the main unit of the copier uses high voltage. Maintenance 8-6OPERATION GUIDE 3Use the cap attached to the center of the old Waste Toner Box to cover the opening. 4Turn Toner Container release lever (1) to the left and remove the Toner Container. CAUTION: Do not attempt to incinerate the toner cartridge or waste toner box. Doing so will generate sparks and may lead to burns. Do not try to force open or crush the toner container or waste toner box. 5Place the old Waste Toner Box in the plastic bag provided for disposal. 6Place the old Toner Container in the plastic bag provided for disposal. Maintenance OPERATION GUIDE8-7 7Grasp the Cleaning Rod and pull gently pull it out as far as it will go and then push it in again. Repeat this operation several times. NOTE: Do not use excessive force to pull the rod or attempt to pull it out. 8While pushing the electrical charge section to the right, pull it out approximately 5 cm (2 inches). 9Remove the accompanying Grid Cleaner from its package and remove its cap. 10Match the Grid Cleaner to the notch and install it in the copier main unit. 11While holding gently the Grid Cleaner with your left hand, pull out the Electrical Charge Section as far as it will go and push it back until the portion (2) does not touch the white pad of the Grid Cleaner. Maintenance 8-8OPERATION GUIDE NOTE: When pushing back the Electrical Charge Section, do not push it all the way into the main body. Copying trouble may occur. After cleaning the Electrical Charge Section using the Grid Cleaner, wait more than 5 minutes before using the machine. 12When the Electrical Charge Section is pulled out approximately 5 cm (2 inches), remove the Grid Cleaner and then push back the Electrical Charge Section all the way into the main body. 13Hold the new toner container vertically and tap the upper part five times or more. Turn the toner container upside down and tap the upper part five times or more. 14Shake the toner container up and down five times or more. Turn the toner container upside down and shake it five times or more. 15Hold the toner container horizontally and shake it from side to side five times or more. 55 Downloaded From ManualsPrinter.com Manuals
Maintenance OPERATION GUIDE8-9 16Set the new Toner Container in place, and turn Toner Container Release Lever (1) to the right. 17Install the new Waste Toner Box. 18Close the front cover. Return used toner containers and waste toner boxes to the dealer you purchased them from or to a sales representative. Recovered toner containers and waste toner boxes will be either reused, recycled or disposed of in accordance with the law. NOTE: In order to ensure maximum copier performance, in addition to the cleaning done when changing the Toner Container, regularly (about 1 time per month) carry out Step 7 described in page8-7 and Step 10 described in page8-7.
