Replacing Consumables 80 You can identify the toner cartridge by the color of the handle and by the letter molded into the handle: C (cyan), M (magenta), Y (yel - low) and K (black). 4Pull the handle on the toner car- tridge toward you, and then pull the toner cartridge up to remove it. Do not manually rotate the toner cartridge carou - sel. In addition, do not rotate the carousel with force; otherwise it may be damaged. Note Dispose of the empty toner cartridge according to your local regulations. Do not burn the toner cartridge. 5Prepare a new toner cartridge. 6Shake the cartridge a few times to distribute the toner. Do not touch or scratch the toner roller. 8Align the shaft on each end of the toner cartridge with its hold - ers, and then insert the car- tridge. Before inserting the toner cartridge, make sure that the color of the toner car - tridge to be installed is the same as the label on the toner cartridge carou - sel. 9Press down on the toner car- tridge until it snaps into place. Replacing Consumables 86 Replacing the Backup Battery If the backup battery is dead, the printer’s date and time cannot be retained. Follow the procedure described below to replace the backup battery. Note It’s very important to protect the printer controller board and any associated circuit boards from electrostatic damage. Before performing this procedure, review the antistatic caution on Page 136. In addition, always handle circuit boards by the edges only. 1Turn off the printer and discon- nect the power cord and inter- face cables. Since there are two hooks on the right side of the panel, remove the rear panel by slightly pull - ing the left side of the panel toward you, then sliding the panel off to the left. 4While holding the tab on the hard disk mounting pin slid to the left, remove the hard disk. 5Remove the backup battery from the back of the hard disk. When installing the new backup battery, make sure that the + side faces up. 7Attach the hard disk to the printer controller board. 8Reinstall the panel and tighten the screw.
