Printing Photographs Directly from a Digital Camera 49 „About “Date/File No. print” By default, OOff is selected for this printer. If you select an image which has had the shooting date embedded in it using a camera with print mode, select O Off for this function. If you select Date, File No., orBoth, the date or file number will be printed over the embedded date. Notes • Never disconnect the USB cable during printing. When disconnecting the USB cable between the product and printer, follow the device instructions given in the Instruction manual. • Controls of the digital camera cannot be used for the following: – Print quality setting –Printer maintenance • For the device operation method and troubleshooting, refer to your device’s manual. • For print error messages, refer to “Cannot Print Properly from the Digital Camera” on page 81.
Printing Photographs Directly from a Digital Camera 50 Printing Photographs Directly from a Canon Bubble Jet Direct Compatible Digital Camera The following is a list of media types that can be set on a Canon Bubble Jet Direct compatible digital camera or digital video camera (PictBridge incompatible) along with their limitations when connected to this printer. „Media Types for Digital Camera When you connect a digital camera, you can use the following media: Notes • For the digital camera operation method and troubleshooting, refer to your digital camera’s manual. For print error messages, see “Cannot Print Properly from the Digital Camera” on page 81. • By operating the digital camera, you can make the following prints: – You can make a standard print from the photo displayed in the single display mode or in the index display mode. – You can print specified numbers of photos, or make an index print by editing the DPOF. – For the images taken with an Exif Print compatible digital camera, the ExifPrint function can be used. – If date printing is set from the digital camera, the date when the photograph was taken is to be printed (excluding the index print). – Photos will be scaled automatically according to the image size set on the digital camera and the size of the media set on the printer. • The digital camera does not support the following functions: – Print quality setting – Printer maintenance • Index printing can only be specified for images that were taken with a camera compatible with the Design rule for Camera File system (Exif2.21 compliant). Printing Photographs from a Wireless Communication Device 51 Printing Photographs from a Wireless Communication Device If you have a mobile phone or a PDA with an infrared port for wireless data transmission, you can print photos through a cordless connection with the printer. If the optional Bluetooth unit BU-20 is connected to the printer, you can also print photos through Bluetooth communication. When printing photos through Infrared Communication: • See “Setting the Page Size, Media Type, and Layout When Printing from a Mobile Phone or a PDA” below. • See “Performing Infrared Communication” on page 53. When printing photos through Bluetooth Communication: • See “Setting the Page Size, Media Type, and Layout When Printing from a Mobile Phone or a PDA” below. • See “Performing Bluetooth Communication” on page 55. Setting the Page Size, Media Type, and Layout When Printing from a Mobile Phone or a PDA You can select the page size, media type, layout and borderless printing on theWireless print setting screen when printing from a mobile phone or a PDA through Infrared communication or Bluetooth communication. The initial setting is borderless printing on 4" x 6" Photo Paper Plus Glossy. 1Turn on the printer. 2Display the Wireless print settings screen. (1) Press the Menu button. (2) Use the WX buttons to select To o l b o x and then press the OKbutton. (3) Use the WX buttons to select Device settings and then press the OK button. (4) Use the ST buttons to select Wireless print settings and then press the OK button. The Wireless print settings screen is displayed. 3Confirm or change the settings. (1) Use the ST buttons to select the item to set. (2) Use the WX buttons to change the setting.

The photos in the mobile phone or the PDA can be printed according to the following settings. „Setting Items (1) Select the page size for the wireless print. (2) Select the media type for the wireless print. Note For information on wireless print compatible page size and media type, see “Media Types for Card Direct Printing” on page 23 (3) Corrects the contours and smooths out the jaggedness. Image optimizer ON/Image optimizer OFF (4) Select the layout of the photos as below. Sticker print: Stickers x 2, x 4, x 9, x 16 Free-cut stickers 1, 2, 3, 4 Printing on paper other than sticker: Bordered, x 2, x 4, x 8 Borderless, x 2, x 4, x 8 Note When printing on Canon Photo Stickers, make the settings as below. Printing Photographs from a Wireless Communication Device 53 Performing Infrared Communication You can print photos in your mobile phone or PDA. When printing through infrared communication, also refer to the manual of your mobile phone or PDA. 1Turn on the printer. 2Load the paper. See “Loading Paper” on page 20. 3Set the print setting. See “Setting the Page Size, Media Type, and Layout When Printing from a Mobile Phone or a PDA” on page 51. 4Start Infrared Communication. (1) Oppose the infrared port of the mobile phone or the PDA to that of the printer at a distance of less than 7.9 inch (20 cm). Note The effective angle of the Infrared Port of the printer is about 10° from the central axis in both vertical and horizontal directions. The allowable distance of communication with the printer depends on the mobile phone or the PDA you use. For this distance, refer to the manual of your mobile phone or PDA. (2) Select the photo to print and send the data to the printer using the infrared communication function of the mobile phone or the PDA. Printing will start after receiving all data. Printing Photographs from a Wireless Communication Device 54 Notes • In order to use infrared communication, your mobile phone or PDA must satisfy the following requirements: – The mobile phone or PDA must have an IrDA port and be compatible with image data transfer using infrared communication. – Printable contents: Image taken with a camera-equipped mobile phone or PDA. • For the procedure to print from your mobile phone or PDA, refer to the manual of your mobile phone or PDA. • Do not place any obstacle between the infrared ports of the printer and mobile phone or PDA. Data cannot be transmitted between them. • During printing, be careful not to interrupt infrared communication with the printer. If it is interrupted, send the data from the mobile phone or the PDA again. • Depending on your device, the Fine print quality option may not be available due to the restriction on the infrared transfer capacity. • We recommend printing on sticker or credit card-sized paper when the print quality on other types of paper is not fine. About transmittable data • It does not support printing a downloaded content or photo and a photo attached to an E-mail for security reason. • It does not support printing video files. • Depending on your device, it may not print data stored in a memory card. • Depending on the size of a photo, it may take a while for this printer to start to print after starting the infrared transfer. • It automatically sets the photo quality and orientation (horizontal or vertical) according to the photo size. • It automatically sets to the margin according to the photo size.
Printing Photographs from a Wireless Communication Device 55 Performing Bluetooth Communication This section explains the procedure to print photos through Bluetooth communication from the mobile phone or the PDA with the optional Bluetooth unit BU-20. Note The printer cannot print data from a PC via a Bluetooth communication. „ Requirements for Bluetooth Communication The following requirements must be met when printing via a Bluetooth communication. •Compatible devices OPP (Object Push Profile) or BIP (Basic Imaging Profile) compatible mobile phones equipped with Bluetooth. Refer to the user’s manual of your mobile phone to ascertain whether it fits this profile. •Printable contents Image taken with a camera-equipped mobile phone or PDA. „Printing through Bluetooth communication When you print through Bluetooth communication from a mobile phone or a PDA, refer to the manual of your mobile phone or PDA. 1Prepare to print. (1) Turn on the printer. (2) Load the paper See “Loading Paper” on page 20. 2Attach the Bluetooth unit BU-20 to the printer.

See “Setting the Page Size, Media Type, and Layout When Printing from a Mobile Phone or a PDA” on page 51. 4Start printing from a mobile phone or a PDA. For the procedure to print from your mobile phone or PDA, refer to the manual of your mobile phone or PDA. • When you select the device name, select the initial value “Canon DS810-1”. • If you are required to enter the passkey, enter the initial value “0000”. You can change the device name of the printer or passkey in Bluetooth settings on the printer. See “Changing the Bluetooth Settings—Bluetooth settings” on page 56. Notes • Communication is possible up to about ten meters depending on the conditions below. The printing speed may change depending on the following conditions: – Presence of obstacles between the communication equipment and radio wave conditions. – Presence of magnetic fields, static electricity or electromagnetic interference. – Receiver sensitivity and antenna performance of the communication equipment. • For the transmittable data, refer to “About transmittable data” on page 54. „Changing the Bluetooth Settings—Bluetooth settings You can change settings such as device name of a printer and passkey in Bluetooth settings. 1Turn on the printer. 2Connect the Bluetooth unit BU-20 to the Direct Print Port. Note TheBluetooth settings screen is displayed only when the optional Bluetooth unit BU- 20 is attached to the printer. 3Display the Bluetooth settings screen. (1) Press the Menu button. (2) Use the WX buttons to select To o l b o x and then press the OK button. (3) Use the WX buttons to select Device settings and then press the OK button. (4) Use the ST buttons to select Bluetooth settings and then press the OK button. The Bluetooth settings screen is displayed.

(2) Use the WXST buttons to select the items you want to set then press the OK button. (3) After setting all necessary items, press the OK button. „Setting Items •Device name: Select the device name of this printer displayed on the screen of the Bluetooth devices. When you set DS810-2, the printer name on the Bluetooth device is “Canon DS810-2”. The initial value is set to DS810-1. •Access refusal:Selecting ON will disable searching and printing from Bluetooth devices. •Security:Selecting Enable will enable a passkey to be set. Setting a passkey will prevent incorrect access from other Bluetooth devices. •Passkey: You can change the passkey. The passkey refers to an identification number to be determined. It is used to prevent incorrect access from other Bluetooth devices. The initial value is set to “0000”. After you change the passkey, you are required to enter the new passkey again. Enter the new passkey to Bluetooth device.
Printing with the Computer 58 Printing with the Computer Installing the printer driver on your personal computer enables you to connect it to the printer for printing. Notes • This product package does not include a USB cable. Please purchase one separately. • This section explains how to install the printer driver, and how to use the User’s Guide. Refer to the User’s Guide for instructions on how to open the printer driver and how to print from your personal computer. Installing the Printer Driver To prepare your printer for printing, you must copy some software called a “Printer Driver” to the hard disk in your personal computer, in a process called “Installation”. „Installing the Printer Driver— Windows® Notes • Use a computer equipped on which Windows XP or Windows 2000 can operate. • Do not disconnect the cable or remove the CD-ROM during the installation. The driver cannot be correctly installed. • The screens below refer to Windows XP installation. Screens may differ depending on the operating system you are using. • Before installing the driver, disable all anti-virus programs and automatically loading programs. • When installing the printer driver in Windows XP or Windows 2000, log on to the system as a member of the Administrators group. • Do not switch users during the installation process. • If the following screen appears automatically, click Cancel to quit the screen and turn off the printer. Next, remove and replace the USB cable connected to your computer. Then follow steps 3 to 10 to install the printer driver. 1Prepare the Printer. See “Easy Setup Instructions” on page 3.
