The wireless channel to be used may be limited depending on wireless network devices installed in the computer. Refer to the instruction manual provided with your computer or your wireless network device to specify the valid wireless channel. Check9 Make sure that the channel confirmed in Check 8 can communicate with the computer. If not, change the channel set to the access point. Check10 Make sure that the firewall of the security software is disabled. If the firewall function of your security software is turned on, a message may appear warning that Canon software is attempting to access the network. If the warning message appears, set the security software to always allow access. If using any programs that switch the network environment, check their settings. Select the network name on the screen displayed, then click Connect. Select "XXXXXX-MGXXXXseries" ("XX" represents alphanumeric characters.) as the network name. 4. Enter the network key on the screen displayed, then click Connect. As a default, the serial number of the machine is used as a network key. Confirm the serial number on the rear of the machine. 5. Perform setup with the Setup CD-ROM or perform it according to the instructions on our website. Select an access point name (SSID) specified for the machine as a destination for external communication devices. Check4 Enter a password if you specify it for the machine. Check5 Make sure that external communication devices are not placed far away from the machine. Do not locate external communication devices too far away from the machine. Check6 Make sure that there is no obstruction. Wireless communication between different rooms or floors is generally poor. Adjust the location of the devices. Check7 Make sure that there is no source of radio wave interference in your vicinity. If a device (e.g. microwave oven) using the same frequency bandwidth as the wireless station is placed nearby, the device may cause interference. Place the wireless station as far away from the interference source as possible. Check8 Are you trying to connect 6 devices or more? You can connect up to 5 devices using the access point mode. Cannot Communicate with the Machine over the Wired LAN Check1 Make sure that the machine is turned on. Check2 Make sure that the LAN cable is connected properly. Make sure that the machine is connected to the router with the LAN cable. If the LAN cable is loose, connect the cable properly. If the LAN cable is connected to the WAN side of the router, connect the cable to the LAN side of the router. If the problem is not resolved, perform setup with the Setup CD-ROM or perform it according to theinstructions on our website. Check2 When using wireless LAN, make sure that the radio status is good and adjust the installation positions while monitoring the radio status with IJ Network Tool. Monitoring Wireless Network Status Make sure that there is no barrier or obstacle between the access point and the machine. Wireless communication between different rooms or floors is generally poor. The metal, concrete, or timber including the metallic material, mud wall, or insulator may interrupt a wireless communication. If the machine cannot communicate with the computer over a wireless LAN for the wall material, place the machine and the computer in the same room or floor. Check3 Make sure that there is no source of interference in your vicinity. If a device (e.g. microwave oven) using the same frequency bandwidth as the wireless station is placed nearby, the device may cause interference. Cannot Mount the Card Slot The Available Drive Letter Cannot Be Selected on the Network Setup of the Card Slot Screen The Card Slot Cannot Be Mounted with IJ Network ToolThe Available Drive Letter Cannot Be Selected on the Network Setup of the Card Slot Screen On this screen, only D to Z can be selected as the network drive for the card slot.When the card slot has been set up to be used over network, you cannot select a drive letter. If you want to assign another drive letter to the network drive for the card slot, disconnect it from the network, then set up the card slot again using IJ Network Tool. Using the Card Slot over a Network The Card Slot Cannot Be Mounted with IJ Network Tool If you cannot mount the card slot to use it over network with IJ Network Tool, follow the procedure below to mount the card slot manually. Important • If you change the printer name with Set printer name on Other settings in LAN settings under Device settings using the operation panel of the machine before you mount the card slot with IJ Network Tool, you cannot mount the card slot with IJ Network Tool. In this case, follow the procedure below and input the specified printer name in place of the Default Name to mount the card slot manually. 1. Check the Default Name of the machine by selecting Network Information on the View menu of IJ Network Tool. 2. Select items as shown below. • In Windows 8.1 or Windows 8, select Run from the Start screen. If Run is not displayed on the Start screen, select the Search charm, then search for " Run". • In Windows 7 or Windows Vista, click Start > All Programs > Accessories > Run . • In Windows XP, click Start > Run . 3. Input "\\xxxxxxxxxxxx\", then click OK. For example, if the Default Name is "0000000847B6\canon_memory", then input only "\ \0000000847B6\". Note • If you cannot mount the card slot with the method above, input the IP address of the machine instead of the 12 alphanumeric characters of the Default Name, and try again. For example, "\ \192.168.1.1\canon_memory\". If you mount the card slot with the IP address, you have to remount it whenever the machine's IP address changes. 807

LAN settings Check4 Disable the Windows Firewall function, or open port 137:139 to allow communication with the machine following the procedure below. For information on other security software, refer to its instruction manual or manufacturer. Important • If you disabled the firewall function, disconnect your network from the Internet. You can do this by configuring your access point or router not to connect to the Internet or WAN. • To disable the Windows Firewall: ◦ If you are using Windows 8.1, Windows 8, or Windows 7: 1. Select Windows Firewall as shown below. ■ In Windows 8.1 or Windows 8, select Control Panel from the Settings charm on Desktop > System and Security > Windows Firewall . ■ In Windows 7, click Start > Control Panel > System and Security > Windows Firewall . 2. Click Turn Windows Firewall on or off . 3. Select Turn off Windows Firewall . ◦ If you are using Windows Vista or Windows XP: 1. Select items from the Start menu as shown below. ■ In Windows Vista, click Start > Control Panel > Security > Windows Firewall > Change settings . ■ In Windows XP, click Start > Control Panel > Security Center > Windows Firewall . 2. Select Off and click OK. • To open port 137:139: ◦ If you are using Windows 8.1, Windows 8, or Windows 7: 1. Select Windows Firewall as shown below. ■ In Windows 8.1 or Windows 8, select Control Panel from the Settings charm on Desktop > System and Security > Windows Firewall . ■ In Windows 7, click Start > Control Panel > System and Security > Windows Firewall . 809

Choose the profile for which this rule applies, then click Next. 8. Input any name and description, then click Finish. 9. Repeat steps 3 to 8 to open the other ports (138TCP, 138UDP, 139TCP, and 139UDP). 10. Confirm that the port names are added on the Inbound Rules screen, then close Windows Firewall . ◦ If you are using Windows Vista or Windows XP: 1. Select items from the Start menu as shown below. ■ In Windows Vista, click Start > Control Panel > Security > Windows Firewall > Change settings . ■ In Windows XP, click Start > Control Panel > Security Center > Windows Firewall . 2. Click the Exceptions tab, and click Add port. 3. On the Add a Port screen, input the following information, and click OK. Name : Input any name for the port. Port number : Input "137". Protocol : Select TCP. 4. Repeat steps 2 and 3. On the Add a Port screen, input the same information as you did in step 3 except for selecting UDP in Protocol . 5. Repeat steps 2 to 4 to open the other ports (138TCP, 138UDP, 139TCP, and 139UDP). 6. Confirm that the port names are added on the Exceptions sheet, and click OK. Check5 Change the workgroup name to "WORKGROUP" following the procedure below. Note • Changing the workgroup name may have an effect on the network, so you need to ask the administrator to change it. 1. Display the System properties screen as shown below. • In Windows 8.1 or Windows 8, select the Explorer icon in Taskbar on Desktop , right-click Computer from the list on the left, select Properties, then click Change settings . • In Windows 7 or Windows Vista, right-click Computer, select Properties , then click Change settings . • In Windows XP, right-click My Computer, then select Properties. 810
