Confirming that the Power Is OnThe POWER lamp is lit when the machine is turned on. Even if the buttons on the operation panel and the touch screen display are off, if the POWER lamp is lit, the machine is on. Note • It may take a while for the machine to start printing immediately after you turn on the machine. • The buttons on the operation panel and the touch screen display will turn off if the machine is not operated for about 5 minutes. To restore the display, touch the touch screen. The touch screen display will be restored, and the available buttons also displayed. The print operation from a computer can also restore the display. 141
Turning the Machine On and OffTurning on the machine1. Touch the ON button to turn on the machine. The POWER lamp flashes and then remains lit. Confirming that the Power Is On Note • It may take a while for the machine to start printing immediately after you turn on the machine. • If the Alarm lamp lights up or flashes and an error message is displayed on the touch screen, see A Message Is Displayed . • You can set the machine to automatically turn on when a print or scan operation is performed from a computer connected by USB cable or network. When the POWER lamp stops flashing, the machine is turned off. Important • When you unplug the power cord after turning off the machine, be sure to confirm that the POWER lamp is off. 142
Note• You can set the machine to automatically turn off when no operations are performed or no print jobs are sent to the machine for a certain interval. This is the default setting. Notice for the Power Plug/Power CordUnplug the power cord once a month to confirm that the power plug/power cord does not have anythingunusual described below.• The power plug/power cord is hot. • The power plug/power cord is rusty. • The power plug/power cord is bent. • The power plug/power cord is worn. • The power plug/power cord is split. Caution • If you find anything unusual with the power plug/power cord described above, unplug the power cord and call for service. Using the machine with one of the unusual conditions above may cause a fire or an electric shock. 144
Notice for Unplugging the Power CordTo unplug the power cord, follow the procedure below. Important • When you unplug the power cord, touch the ON button, then confirm that the POWER lamp is off. Unplugging the power cord while the POWER lamp is lit or flashing may cause drying or clogging of the print head and print quality may be reduced. 1. Touch the ON button to turn the machine off. 2. Confirm that the POWER lamp is off. 3. Unplug the power cord. The specification of the power cord differs depending on the country or region of use. 145
Using the Operation PanelThe operation panel consists of the touch screen (A) and buttons (B) that light up.Touch the HOME screen on the touch screen with your finger tip to select menus for copying, scanning, and other functions. The HOME screen comprises three separate screens. (A) touch screen Lightly touch a menu, button, or icon on the screen with your finger tip. Basic Operation of the touch screen (B) Buttons on the operation panel Lightly touch the buttons (B) on the operation panel with your finger tip. Only buttons on the operation panel available for the current screen light up. Important • Do not place any object (especially metallic objects or objects containing moisture) on the operation panel. Doing so may cause the machine to malfunction. • Precious metals, such as in rings and bracelets, may cause malfunction of the machine. When using the operation panel, keep such metals at least 0.8 inch (2 cm) away from the operation panel. Basic Operation of the touch screen Touch the touch screen lightly with your finger tip or move your finger to access various functions or settings. Important • When operating the touch screen, make sure to avoid the followings, which may cause the machine to malfunction or damage the machine. • Strongly pressing the touch screen. 146
•Pressing the touch screen with other than your finger (especially with sharpened tips, such as on ballpoint pens, pencils, or nails).• Touching the touch screen with wet or dirty hands. • Placing any objects on the touch screen. Tap Touch lightly with your finger tip and immediately release. Use to select an item or photo on the screen. Touch Touch lightly with your finger tip. To move forward (or go back) menus or photos continuously, keep touching the forward (or back) mark. Flick Flick your finger on the screen up, down, left, or right. Use to switch menus or move forward or backward through photos. Drag While lightly touching the screen, move your finger up, down, left, or right. Use to view lists of items or move sliders. 147
An Operation Example of the touch screen Example: The touch screen operation on the photo selection screen in Photo print Flick your finger left or right on a photo to display the next or previous photo. You can also tap the marks (C) to do the same. To move continuously forwards or backwards through photos, hold your touch on either of the marks (C). Tap (D) to switch to a screen that displays multiple photos. Drag the slide bar (H) left or right to change the number of photos displayed on the screen. Tapping (I) or (J) also changes it. Tap (E) to display the To most recent date screen. 148
Flick left or right and tap the date of photos to display.Tap (F) to enlarge/reduce the photo. Tap (K) to enlarge the photo and (L) to reduce it.
