7-3 Alarm Indicator 7 Troubleshooting Alarm Indicator When a problem has occurred in the printer, the (Alarm) indicator (orange) comes on or blinks. When the (Alarm) indicator is on, a service error is occurring. In this case, see Service Call Display, on p. 7-25. 7-4Paper Jams Troubleshooting 7 Paper Jams The Paper Jam indicator (orange) blinks, and the following messages appear in the Printer Status Window when a paper jam occurs during printing. If the power is turned OFF, the data being printed will be deleted. •Applying excess force may result in tearing paper or damaging the parts in the printer. 7-7 Troubleshooting 7 Paper Jams Procedure for Clearing Paper Jams Follow the instructions below to remove the jammed paper: 1Open the output selection cover. 2Tilt the green pressure release levers on both sides of the fixing unit towards you to release the pressure in the fixing unit. Even if paper is jammed here, do not remove it but proceed to the next step.

Remove the jammed paper gently to prevent unfixed toner from spilling. IMPORTANT If you pull the jammed paper obliquely upward, unfixed toner may spill. 7-10 Troubleshooting 7 Paper Jams 8Remove any jammed paper by pulling it in the direction of the arrow. Remove the jammed paper gently to prevent unfixed toner from spilling. IMPORTANT If the jammed paper cannot be removed easily, do not try to remove it forcefully but proceed to the next step.

7-11 Troubleshooting 7 Paper Jams 9Move the transport guide back to its original position slowly. CAUTION Do not take your hands off the transport guide until it moves back to its original position. The transport guide may snap back to its original position, and this may result in personal injury.
