Printing from an Application4-2 Printing a Document 4 Printing from an Application After installing the CAPT software, you can now print jobs on the printer. This section describes the procedure for printing from an application, taking Adobe Reader 6.0 as an example. 1Load paper in the multi-purpose tray or manual feed tray. NOTE If you are printing on plain paper, heavy paper, label paper, or transparencies, refer to Printing on Plain Paper, Heavy Paper, Label Paper, and Transparencies, on p. 2-13; if you are printing on index card, refer to Printing on Index Card, on p. 2-26; if you are printing on envelopes, refer to Printing on Envelopes, on p. 2-33; and if you are printing on custom paper, refer to Printing on Custom Paper Sizes (Non-Standard Sizes), on p. 2-44. 2Open the PDF file to print with Adobe Reader, and then select [Print Setup] from the [File] menu.
Printing from an Application4-3 Printing a Document 4 3Specify the paper size of the document and the printing orientation, then click [OK]. 4Select [Print] from the [File] menu. The [Print] dialog box is displayed.

NOTE The printer name displayed in this dialog box can be changed from the [Printers and Faxes] folder (the [Printers] folder for Windows 98/Me/2000). 6If you want to specify more detailed printing preferences, click [Properties]. The [Canon LBP2900 Properties] dialog box is displayed.
Printing from an Application4-5 Printing a Document 4 NOTE The procedure for displaying the [Document Properties] dialog box may differ depending on the application you are using. 7Specify the printing preferences in the [Page Setup], [Finishing], [Paper Source], and [Quality] sheets. NOTE •The settings that are specified here only apply to the currently opened file. Check the contents of the [Document Properties] dialog box each time you print. In particular, it is recommended that you verify the information in the [Page Setup] sheet and the [Paper Source] sheet. •The default settings for all files can be configured using the following dialog box. -For Windows 98/Me: Open the [Printer Properties] dialog box from the [Printers] folder. (See Opening the [Printer Properties] Dialog Box from the [Printers] Folder, on p. 4-9.) -For Windows 2000/XP/Server 2003: Open the [Document Properties] dialog box from the [Printers and Faxes] or [Printers] folder. (See Opening the [Document Properties] Dialog Box from the [Printers and Faxes] or [Printers] Folder, on p. 4-13.) 8Click [OK]. The [Print] dialog box reappears. 9Click [OK]. The printer starts printing.

To ensure that a document prints the way you want it to, adjust the printer and printer driver settings.
Specifying Printing Preferences4-7 Printing a Document 4 Specifying Printing Preferences The CAPT software allows you to configure various printing preferences for the LBP2900/2900i. You can configure various printer functions on each of the pages of the [Printer Properties] dialog box and [Document Properties] dialog box. Depending on your OS, use the following procedures to open these property dialog boxes. For Windows 98/Me If you open the [Document Properties] dialog box from within an application, the settings are only applicable to that particular print job. If you open the [Printer Properties] dialog box from the [Printers] folder, you can configure the default printer settings for all print jobs. Opening the [Document Properties] Dialog Box from an Application This section describes the procedure for opening the [Document Properties] dialog box, taking Adobe Reader 6.0 as an example. 1Select [Print] from the [File] menu in the application. The [Print] dialog box is displayed.

Refer to the users manual supplied with your application for further details. 2Confirm the printer name, then click [Properties]. The [Document Properties] dialog box is displayed.

The [Printers] folder is displayed. 2Select the icon for your printer, then select [Properties] from the [File] menu.

NOTE The [Printer Properties] dialog box can also be displayed by right-clicking the icon for the printer and selecting [Properties] from the pop-up menu. For Windows 2000/XP/Server 2003 If you open the [Document Properties] dialog box from within an application, the settings are only applicable to that particular print job. If you open the [Document Properties] dialog box from the [Printers and Faxes] or [Printers] folder, you can specify the default settings used by all print jobs. If you open the [Printer Properties] dialog box from the [Printers and Faxes] or [Printers] folder, you can configure printer options and create Profiles of frequently used options. NOTE To change settings in the [Printers and Faxes] or [Printers] folders you need to have Full Access Permissions. If you are unable to open the [Document Properties] dialog box from within the [Printers and Faxes] or [Printers] folder, open it from within the application.
