    3Connect the B-type (square) end of the USB cable to the USB 
    connector on the rear side of the printer, and close the USB 
    cover.
    4Connect the A-type (flat) end of the USB cable to the USB port 
    on the computer.

    5Press the   side of the power switch to turn the printer on.
    6Turn the computer on and start up Windows 2000.
    7Log on as a user who is a member of the Administrators 
    group.
    The [Found New Hardware Wizard] dialog box appears.
    NOTE
    Full Control Permissions are required for the installation of the printer driver.
    8Click [Next].

    9Select [Search for a suitable driver for my device 
    (recommended)], then click [Next].
    NOTE
    [Unknown] may be displayed as the name of the device.
    10Remove the checkmarks from [Floppy disk drives] and 
    [CD-ROM drives], place a checkmark next to [Specify a 
    location], and then click [Next].

    11Insert the supplied LBP2900/2900i User Software CD-ROM 
    into the CD-ROM drive, then click [Browse].
    If CD-ROM Setup appears, click [Exit].
    12Select [D:\English\Win2K_XP]. Select [CNAB4STK.INF] and 
    click [Open].
    In this case the CD-ROM drive is assumed to be assigned to D:. The actual 
    CD-ROM drive letter may be different depending on the computer you are using.
    13Make sure that the correct path is displayed in the [Copy 
    manufacturers files from] field, then click [OK].
    A dialog box is displayed when the computer finishes searching for the driver files.

    14Click [Next].
    Windows will begin copying files.
    When it has finished, the [Completing the Found New Hardware Wizard] dialog is 
    displayed.
    NOTE
    If the [Digital Signature Not Found] dialog box appears, click [Yes].
    15Click [Finish].
    Installation of the USB class driver (supplied with OS) and the printer driver starts 
    automatically.

    For Windows XP/Server 2003
    The screen shots used in this section are from Windows XP.
    Installing from CD-ROM Setup
    1Make sure that the computer and printer are turned off at the 
    power.
    2Open the USB cover.

    3Connect the B-type (square) end of the USB cable to the USB 
    connector on the rear side of the printer, and close the USB 
    cover.
    4Connect the A-type (flat) end of the USB cable to the USB port 
    on the computer.

    5Turn the computer on and start up Windows XP/Server 2003.
    IMPORTANT
    If the Plug and Play automatic setup wizard appears, click [Cancel] and install the 
    CAPT software using the following procedure.
    6Log on as a user who is a member of the Administrators 
    group.
    NOTE
    Full Control Permissions are required for the installation of the printer driver.
    7Insert the supplied LBP2900/2900i User Software CD-ROM 
    into the CD-ROM drive.
    If the CD-ROM is already in the drive, eject the CD-ROM and reinsert it into the 
    drive again.
    The CD-ROM Setup appears automatically.
    IMPORTANT
    If the CD-ROM Setup does not start automatically, select [Run] from the [Start] 
    menu, enter D:\English\CNAB4MNU.exe, and click the [OK] button. (In this case 
    the CD-ROM drive is assumed to be assigned to D:. The actual CD-ROM drive 
    letter may be different depending on the computer you are using.)
    8Click [Install].
    A dialog box is displayed to confirm the language.

    9Confirm the language and click [Yes].
    After the preparation for installation is completed, the CAPT (Canon Advanced 
    Printing Technology) software installer starts up, and the [Setup Wizard] dialog 
    box appears.
    10Click [Next].
    The [License Agreement] dialog box is displayed.
    11Confirm the contents of the agreement and select [I accept 
    the terms in the license agreement], and then click [Next].

    12Place a checkmark next to [Install Printer Driver through a 
    USB Connection], then click [Next].
    If you are using an operating system equipped with Windows Firewall, such as 
    Windows XP Service Pack 2, the following window is displayed. Click [Yes] or 
    [No].
    Click [Yes] to configure Windows Firewall to unblock communication with client 
    computers. Select this option if the computer you are currently installing is a print 
    server.
    Click [No] to configure Windows Firewall to block communications with client 
    computers.
    13The message [Installation cannot be stopped once it starts. 
    Do you want to continue?] is displayed. Click [Yes].
    NOTE
    If the [Software Installation] dialog box appears, click [Continue Anyway].
