    Preparing to Print
    6Play back the image.
     Press the  button.
    X The image will appear, and the < w> 
    icon will appear on the upper left to 
    indicate that the camera is connected 
    to a printer.
    wPictBridge
      Movies cannot be printed.
      The camera cannot be used  with printers compatible only with CP Direct 
    or Bubble Jet Direct.
      Do not use any interface cable other than the  one provided.
      If there is a long beeping sound in st ep 5, it indicates a problem with the 
    printer. Resolve the problem displa yed in the error message (p.308).
     You can also print RAW images  taken with this camera.
      If you use a battery pack  to power the camera, ma ke sure it is fully 
    charged. With a fully-charged battery, pr inting up to approx. 4 hr. 30 min. 
    is possible.
      Before disconnecting the cable, first tu rn off the camera and printer. Hold 
    the plug (not the cord)  to pull out the cable.
      For direct printing, using AC Adapte r Kit ACK-E4 (sold separately) to 
    power the camera is recommended.

    The screen display and setting options will differ depending on the 
    printer.  Some settings may not be available. For details, refer to the 
    printer’s instruction manual.
    1Select the image to be printed.
     Check that the  icon is 
    displayed on the upper left of the LCD 
    monitor.
      Turn the < 5> dial to select the 
    image to be printed.
    2Press .
    X The print setting screen will appear.
    3Select [Paper settings].
      Select [Paper settings ], then press 
    < 0 >.
    X The paper setting screen will appear.

    * Depending on the printer,  certain settings such as date and file number 
    imprinting and trimming  may not be selectable.Sets the printing effects (p.304).
    Sets the date or file 
    number imprinting to on 
    or off.
    Sets the quantity  to be printed.
    Sets the trimming  (cropping) (p.307).
    Sets the paper size, type, and layout.
    Returns to the screen in step 1.
    Starts the printing.
    The paper size, type, and layout  you have set are displayed.

     Select the size of the paper loaded in 
    the printer, then press < 0>.
    X The paper type screen will appear.
      Select the type of the paper loaded in 
    the printer, then press < 0>.
    X The page layout screen will appear.
      Select the page layout, then press

    X The print setting screen will reappear.
    *1: From the Exif data, the camera name, lens name, shooting mode, shutter speed, 
    aperture, exposure compensation amount , ISO speed, white balance, etc., will be 
    imprinted.
    *2: After ordering the prints with “Digital Print Order Format (DPOF)” (p.309), it is 
    recommended that you print by following “Direct Printing with DPOF” (p.312).

    Bordered The print will have white  borders along the edges.
    BorderlessThe print will have no borders. If your printer cannot print 
    borderless prints, the print will have borders.
    Bordered cThe shooting information*1 will be imprinted  on the border on 
    9x13 cm and larger prints.
    xx-upOption to print 2, 4, 8, 9,  16, or 20 images on one sheet.
    20-upc
    35-up pTwenty or 35 images will be printe d as thumbnails on A4 or Letter 
    size paper*2.
    •   [20-up c] will have the shooting information*1 imprinted.
    DefaultThe page layout will va ry depending on the printer model or its 
    settings.

    4Set the printing effects.
     Set if necessary. If you do not need to 
    set any printing effects, go to step 5.
      What is displayed on the screen 
    differs depending on the printer.
      Select the option, then press < 0>.
      Select the desired printing effect, then 
    press < 0>.
      If the < e> icon is highlighted next to 
    < z >, you can also adjust the 
    printing effect (p.306).
    * When you change the printing effects, changes are reflected in the image 
    displayed on the upper left. Note that  the printed image may look slightly 
    different from the displayed image, whic h is only an approximation. This also 
    applies to [Brightness] and [Adjust levels] on page 306.
    Printing Effect Description
    EOnThe image will be printed using the printer’s standard colors. 
    The image’s Exif data is used  to make automatic corrections.
    EOffNo automatic correction will be applied.
    EVivid The image will be printed with  higher saturation to produce 
    more vivid blues and greens.
    ENRImage noise is reduced before printing.
    0  B/WPrints in black-and-whi te with true blacks.
    0 Cool tonePrints in black-and-white  with cool, bluish blacks.
    0 Warm tonePrints in black-and-white wi th warm, yellowish blacks.
    zNaturalPrints the image in the ac tual colors and contrast. 
    No automatic color ad justments are applied.
    zNatural MThe printing characte ristics are the same as the “Natural” 
    setting. However, th is setting enables finer printing 
    adjustments than with “Natural.”
    EDefaultThe printing will differ dependin g on the printer. For details, 
    refer to the printer’s instruction manual.

    5Set the date and file number 
    imprinting.
     Set if necessary.
      Select <
    I>, then press .
      Set as desired, then press < 0>.
    6Set the number of copies.
      Set if necessary.
      Select , then press < 0>.
      Set the number of copies, then press 
    .
    7Start printing.
      Select [Print ], then press < 0>.
    When imprinting the shooting informat ion (p.303) of an image shot at ISO 
    51200, H1, or H2, th e correct ISO speed may not be imprinted.
     The [ Default ] setting for printing effect s and other options are the 
    printer’s own default settings as set  by the printer’s manufacturer. Refer 
    to the printer’s instruction ma nual to find out what the [Default] settings 
    are.
      Depending on the im age’s file size and image-recording  quality, it may 
    take some time for the printing  to start after you select [Print].
      If image tilt correction (p.307) is appl ied, it may take longer to print the 
    image.
      To stop the printing, press <
    0> while [Stop ] is displayed, then select 
    [ OK ].
      If you execute [ 54: Clear all camera settings ] (p.58), all the settings 
    will revert to their defaults.

    In step 4 on page 304, select the printing 
    effect. When the < e> icon is highlighted 
    next to < z>, you can press the 
    < B > button. You can then adjust the 
    printing effects. What can be adjusted or 
    what is displayed will depend on the 
    selection made in step 4.
      Brightness
    The image brightness can be adjusted.
      Adjust levels
    When you select [ Manual], you can change 
    the histogram’s distribution and adjust the 
    image’s brightness and contrast.
    With the Adjust levels screen displayed, press 
    the < B> button to change the position of 
    the <
    h>. Turn the < 5> dial to freely adjust 
    the shadow level (0 - 127) or highlight level 
    (128 - 255).
      kBrightener
    Effective in backlit conditions that can make the subject’s face look 
    dark. When [ On] is set, the face will be  brightened for printing.
      Red-eye corr.
    Effective in flash images where t he subject has red eye. When [On] 
    is set, the red eye will be corrected for printing.
    e  Adjustment of Printing Effects
     The [kBrightener] and [Red-eye corr.] effects will not show on the screen.  When [Detail set. ] is selected, you can adjust the [ Contrast], 
    [ Saturation], [ Color tone], and [Color balance ]. To adjust the [ Color 
    balance ], use <
    9>. B is for blue, A for amber, M for magenta, and G for 
    green. The image’s color balance will be corrected tow ards the selected 
    color.
      If you select [ Clear all], all the printing effect se ttings will be reverted to 
    their defaults.

    You can crop the image and print only 
    the trimmed portion as if the image was 
    recomposed.
    Set the trimming right before printing. 
    If you set the trimming and then set the 
    print settings, you may have to set the 
    trimming again before printing.
    1 On the print setting screen, select [Trimming].
    2 Set the trimming frame size, position, and aspect ratio.
     The image area within the tri mming frame will be printed. The 
    trimming frame’s aspect ra tio can be changed with [
    Paper settings].
    Changing the trimming frame size
    Turn the < 6> dial to change the trimming frame size. The 
    smaller the trimming frame, the  larger the image magnification will 
    be for printing.
    Moving the trimming frame
    Use  to move the frame over the image vertically or horizontally. 
    Move the trimming frame so that it covers the desired image area.
    Rotating the frame Pressing the < B> button will toggle the trimming frame 
    between the vertical a nd horizontal orientations. This enables you 
    to create a vertically oriented  print from a horizontal image.
    Image tilt correction
    By turning the < 5> dial, you can adjust the  image tilt angle up to 
    ±10 degrees in 0.5-degree increm ents. When you adjust the 
    image tilt, the < O> icon on the screen will turn blue.
    3 Press  to exit the trimming.
    X The print setting screen will reappear.
      You can check the trimmed image area on the upper left of the 
    print setting screen.

     Depending on the printer,  the trimmed image area may not be printed as 
    you specified.
      The smaller you set the trimming frame, the grainier the picture will look 
    in the print.
      While trimming the image, look at th e camera’s LCD monitor. If you look 
    at the image on a TV sc reen, the trimming frame may not be displayed 
    accurately.
    Handling Printer ErrorsIf you resolve a printer error (no in k, no paper, etc.) and select [Continue] to 
    resume printing but it does  not resume, operate the pr inter to resume printing. 
    For details on resuming the printing, refer to the printer’s instruction manual.
    Error MessagesIf a problem occurs during printing, an error me ssage will appear on the 
    camera’s LCD monitor. Press  to stop printing . After fixing the 
    problem, resume prin ting. For details on how to  fix a printing problem, refer 
    to the printer’s instruction manual.
    Paper Error Check whether th e paper is properly l oaded in the printer.
    Ink Error Check the printer’s ink level,  and check the waste ink tank.
    Hardware Error Check for any printer pr oblems other than paper and ink problems.
    File Error The selected image cannot be printed via PictBridge. Images taken with 
    a different camera or images edit ed with a computer may not be 
    printable.

    You can set the print type, date imprinting, and file number imprinting. 
    The print settings will be applied to  all print-ordered images. (Settings 
    cannot be set individually for each image.)
    1Select [Print order].
     Under the [ 31] tab, select [Print 
    order], then press < 0>.
    2Select [Set up].
      Select [Set up ], then press .
    3Set the option as desired.
      Set the [Print type ], [Date ], and [ File 
    No. ].
      Select the option to be set, then press 
    . Select the desired setting, 
    then press < 0>.

    4Exit the setting.
     Press the < M> button.
    X The print order screen will reappear.
      Next, select [Sel.Image], [ Byn ], or 
    [All image] to order the images to be 
    printed.
    Print type
    KStandard Prints one image on one sheet.
    LIndexMultiple thumbnail images  are printed on one sheet.
    K
    LBothPrints both the standard and index prints.
    Date On
    [On ] imprints the recorded date on the print.
    Off
    File numberOn[On ] imprints the file  number on the print.
    Off
      Even if [ Date] and [ File No. ] are set to [ On], the date or file number may 
    not be imprinted depending on the pr int type setting and printer model.
      With [ Index ] prints, the [ Date] and [ File No. ] cannot both be set to [ On] 
    at the same time.
      When printing with DP OF, you must use the ca rd whose print order 
    specifications have been set. It will  not work if you just extract images 
    from the card and try to print them.
      Certain DPOF-compatible printers and  photofinishers may not be able to 
    print the images as you sp ecified. If this happens with your printer, refer 
    to the printer’s instruction manual . Or check with your photofinisher 
    about compatibility wh en ordering prints.
      Do not insert into the camera a ca rd whose print order was set by a 
    different camera and then try to spec ify a print order. The print order may 
    not work or may be overwritten. Also , depending on the image type, the 
    print order may not be possible.
    RAW images and movies  cannot be print ordered. You can print RAW 
    images with PictBridge (p.300).
