131 3 Selecting a Picture Style The symbols of the Picture Style selection screen refer to parameters such as [Sharpness] and [Contrast ]. The numerals indicate the parameter settings, such as [Sharpness ] and [Contrast], for each Picture Style. 132 You can customize a Picture Style by adjusting individual parameters such as [Sharpness] and [Contrast ]. To see the resulting effects, take test shots. To customize [Monochrome], see page 134. 1Select [Picture Style]. Under [z 1], select [Picture Style ], then press < 0>. X The Picture Style selection screen will appear. 2Select a Picture Style. Turn the < 5> dial to select the desired Picture Style, then press < B >. 3Select a parameter. 133 3 Customizing a Picture Style 4Set the parameter. Turn the < 5> dial to set the parameter as desired, then press < 0 >. Press the < M> button to save the adjusted parameters. The Picture Style selection screen will reappear. X Any settings different from the default will be displayed in blue. 134 3 Customizing a Picture Style For Monochrome, you can also set [ Filter effect] and [Toning effect] in addition to [ Sharpness] and [Contrast ] explained on the preceding page. kFilter Effect With a filter effect applied to a monochrome image, you can make white clouds or green trees stand out more. l Toning Effect By applying a toning effect, you can create a monochrome image in that color. It can make the image look more impressive. The following can be selected: [ N:None], [S:Sepia ], [B:Blue ], [P:Purple ] or [G:Green ]. V Monochrome Adjustment FilterSample Effects N: NoneNormal black-and-white image with no filter effects. Ye : Ye l l o wThe blue sky will look more natural, and the wh ite clouds will look crisper. Or : OrangeThe blue sky will look slightly darker. The sunset will look more brilliant. R: RedThe blue sky will look quite dark. Fa ll leaves will look crisper and brighter. G: GreenSkin tones and lips will appear muted. Tree leaves will look crisper and brighter. Increasing the [ Contrast] will make the filter effect more pronounced. COPY
135 You can select a base Picture Style such as [Portrait] or [Landscape ], adjust its parameters as des ired and register it under [User Def. 1], [User Def. 2 ], or [User Def. 3 ]. You can create Picture Styles whose parameter settings such as sharpness and contrast are different. You can also adjust the parameters of a Picture Style that has been registered to the camera with EOS Utility (provided software, p.410). 1Select [Picture Style]. Under [z 1], select [Picture Style], then press < 0>. X The Picture Style selection screen will appear. 2Select [User Def. *]. Turn the < 5> dial to select a [ User Def. * ] style, then press < B>. 3Press < 0>. With [ Picture Style] selected, press < 0 >. 4Select the base Picture Style. Turn the < 5> dial to select the base Picture Style, then press < 0>. To adjust the parameters of a Picture Style that has been registered to the camera with EOS Utility (provided software), select the Picture Style here. 3 Registering a Picture Style COPY
136 3 Registering a Picture Style 5Select a parameter. Turn the < 5> dial to select a parameter such as [Sharpness ], then press < 0>. 6Set the parameter. Turn the < 5> dial to set the parameter as desired, then press < 0 >. For details, see “Customizing a Picture Style” on pages 132-134. Press the < M> button to register the modified Picture Style. The Picture Style selection screen will then reappear. X The base Picture Style will be indicated on the right of [ User Def. *]. X If the settings in a Picture Style registered under [ User Def. *] have been modified from the base Picture Style settings, the Picture Style’s name will be displayed in blue. If a Picture Style has alread y been registered under [User Def. *], changing the base Picture Style in step 4 will nullify the parameter settings of the registered Picture Style. If you execute [ Clear all camera settings ] (p.58), all the [User Def. *] settings will revert to their defaults. Picture St yles registered via EOS Utility (provided software) will have only their modified parameters reverted to their default settings. To use an adjusted Picture St yle, select the registered [User Def. *], then shoot. Regarding the procedure to register a Picture Style file to the camera, refer to the EOS Utility In struction Manual (p.412). COPY
137 White balance (WB) is for making the white areas look white. Normally, the (Auto) setting will obtain the correct white balance. If natural-looking colors cannot be obtained with < Q>, you can select the white balance that matches the light source or set it manually by shooting a white object. 1Press the < B> button. (9 ) 2Select the white balance. While looking at the top LCD panel, turn the < 5> dial. * Applicable with Speedlites having a co lor temperature transmission function. Otherwise, it will be fixed to approx. 6000K. To the human eye, a white object looks whit e regardless of the type of lighting. With a digital camera, the color temperatur e is adjusted with software to make the white areas look white. This adjustment serves as the basis for the color correction. To set a Personal WB, select [ PC-*]. Refer to the EOS Utility Instruction Manual for the procedure to register a Personal WB. COPY
138 Custom white balance enables you to manually set the white balance for a specific light source for bette r accuracy. Perform this procedure under the actual light source to be used. Up to five sets of Custom white balance data can be registered to the camera. You can also append a name (caption) to the registered Custom white balance data. There are two ways to register Custom white balance data. You can either take a picture and register it, or register an image already saved in the card. Record and register WB 1Select [Set Custom WB]. Under the [ z1] tab, select [Set Custom WB ], then press < 0>. 2Select the Custom WB number to be registered. Press < 0>. Turn the < 5> dial to select 1 to 5 for < O *>, then press < 0>. The Custom WB data will be registered under the selected number. 3Select [Record and register WB]. Turn the < 5> dial to select [ Record and register WB ], then press . X The LCD monitor will turn off, and the selected number [ * ] will blink on the top LCD panel. 139 O Custom White Balance 4Photograph a solid-white object. The plain, white object should fill the spot metering circle. Focus manually and set the standard exposure for the white object. Any white balance setting can be set. X The Custom WB data will be registered. To use the Custom WB, see “Selecting and Shooting with the Custom WB Data” (p.141). Spot metering circle Custom WB data can also be registered as follows: 1. Press the < B> button and turn the < 5> dial to select < O> (p.137). 2. Then turn the < 6> dial to select the number under which the Custom WB is to be registered. 3. Press the < J> button. → [ * ] will blink on the top LCD panel. 4. Follow step 4 above to phot ograph a solid-white object. → The Custom WB data will be regi stered under the selected number. When a picture is taken, the regist ered Custom white balance will be applied. If the exposure of the pi cture differs greatly from the standard exposure, a correct white balance mi ght not be obtained. If [Correct WB may not be obtained with the selected image ] is displayed in step 4, go back to step 1 and try again. The image captured in step 4 wi ll not be recorded to the card. Instead of a white object, an 18% gray card can produce a more accurate white balance. COPY
140 O Custom White Balance Select image on card First follow step 4 under “Record and register WB” (p.138) to take a picture of a plain, white object. This image saved in the card can then be registered for Custom WB. The procedure up to step 2 is the same as in “Record and register WB.” 1Select [Set Custom WB]. 2Select the Custom WB number to be registered. 3Select [Select image on card]. Turn the < 5> dial to select [ Select image on card ], then press . X The images saved in the card will be displayed. 4Select the image to be used for registering the Custom WB data. Turn the < 5> dial to select the image to be registered for the Custom WB data, then press < 0>. 5Select [OK]. Turn the < 5> dial to select [ OK], then press < 0>. X The Custom WB data will be registered. When the message appears, press < 0 > to return to step 3. In step 4, the following images cannot be selected : images captured while the Picture Style was set to [ Monochrome], multiple-exposure images, and images taken with another camera. To shoot with the registered Custom WB, first select the registered Custom WB number, then shoot (p.141). COPY
