    Using AF to Focus
    2Focus the subject.
Press the shutter button halfway and
the camera will focus the face
covered by the < p> frame.
X When focus is achi eved, the AF point
will turn green a nd the beeper will
    sound.
X If focus is not achieved, the AF point
    will turn orange.
If a face cannot be detected, the AF
point < > will be displayed and AF
will be executed at the center.
    3Take the picture.
Check the focus and exposure, then
press the shutter button completely to
    take the picture (p.201).
If the focus is far off, face detect ion will not be possible. If the lens
enables manual focusing even while the lens focus mode switch is set to
, turn the focusing ring to attain rough focus. The face will then be
detected and < p> will be displayed.
An object other than a human fa ce may be detected as a face.

Face detection will not work if the face is very small or large in the picture,
too bright or too dark, titled horizont ally or diagonally, or partially hidden.
The < p> focusing frame may cover only part of the face.
When you press straight down or press < 0>, the AF mode will
switch to the Live mode (p.209). You can tilt to move the AF point.
Press < 9> straight down again or press < 0> to return to the u (face
    detection) Live mode.
Since AF is not possible with a face detected near the edge of the
picture, the < p> will be grayed out. Then if you press the shutter button
halfway, the center AF poin t < > will be used to focus.

    Using AF to Focus
    AF operation
     Focusing will take slightly longer.
Even when focus has been achieved, pressing the shutter button
    halfway will focus again.
The image brightness may cha nge during and after the AF
    operation.
If the light source changes while th e Live View image is displayed,
the screen may flicker and focusing may be difficult. If this happens,
exit Live View shooting and autofocus under the actual light source.
If you press the < u> button in the Live mode, the image will be
magnified at the AF point. If focusing is difficult in the magnified view,
return to the normal view and autofocus. Note that the AF speed
may differ between the normal and magnified views.
If you autofocus in the Live mode’s normal view and then magnify
the image, the focus may no longer be correct.
In the u Live mode, pressing the < u> button will not magnify the
    image.
Live Mode and u (Face Detection) Live Mode Notes
In the Live mode or u (face detection) Live mode, if you shoot a
peripheral subject and it is slightly out of focus, aim the center AF point
over the subject to focus, then take the picture.
The external Speedlite will not emit the AF-assist beam. However, if an
EX-series Speedlite (sold separately) equipped with a LED light is used,
the LED light will turn on automatica lly for AF-assist when necessary in
the Live mode and u (face detection) Live mode.

    Using AF to Focus
The dedicated AF sensor is used to focus in One-Shot AF mode (p.67),
using the same AF method as with viewfinder shooting.
Although you can focus th e target area quickly, the Live View image
will be interrupted momentarily during the AF operation.
In AF area selection modes other than 61-point automatic selection AF,
you can manually select the AF point or zone.
    1Display the Live View image.

    Live View Shooting Cautions
Image Quality When you shoot at high ISO speeds, noise (such as dots of light and
    banding) may become noticeable.

Shooting in high temperatures may cause noise and irregular colors in the image. If Live View shooting is used contin uously for a long period, the camera’s
internal temperature may rise, degrading image qua lity. Stop Live View
    shooting when not shooting images.
If you shoot a long expo sure while the camera’s internal temperature is
high, image quality may be degraded. Stop Live View shooting and wait
a few minutes before shooting again.
White < s> and Red Internal Temperature Warning If the camera’s internal temperatu re increases due to prolonged Live
View shooting or a high ambient temperature, a white icon will
appear. If you continue sh ooting while this icon is displayed, the image
quality may be degraded. It is recommended to temporarily exit Live
View shooting and allow the camera to cool down before shooting again.

If the camera’s internal temperature further increases while the white icon
is displayed, a red icon will start blinking. This blinking icon is a
warning that the Live View shooting will soon end automatically. If this
happens, you will not be able to shoot again until the camera’s internal
temperature decreases. Turn off the power and let the camera rest for a while.
Using Live View shooting at a high temperature for a prolonged period
will cause the < s> and < E> icons to appear earlier. When you are not
    shooting, turn off the camera.
If the camera’s internal temperature is high, the image quality of high ISO
speed images or long exposures may be degraded even before the
    white icon is displayed.
Shooting Result If you take the picture in magnified view, the exposu re may not come out as
desired. Return to the normal view befor e taking the picture. In magnified view,
the shutter speed and aperture will be displayed in orange. Even if you take the
picture in magnified view , the image will be captured in the normal view.
If [z 2: Auto Lighting Optimizer ] (p.146) is not set to [Disable], the
image may look bright ev en if a decreased exposure compensation or
decreased flash exposure compensation was set.

If you use a TS-E lens to shift the lens vertically or use an Extension Tube, the
standard exposure may not be obtained or an irregular exposure may result.

    Live View Shooting Cautions
Live View Image Under low- or bright-light conditions, the Live View image may not reflect
the brightness of the captured image.
If the light source within the image ch anges, the screen may flicker. If this
happens, exit Live View shooting and resume shooting under the actual
    light source to be used.
If you point the camera in a different direction, it may throw off the Live
View image’s correct brightness mo mentarily. Wait until the brightness
    level stabilizes be fore shooting.
If there is a very bright light source in the pict ure, the bright area may
appear black on the LCD monitor. Ho wever, the actual captured image
will correctly show the bright area.
In low light, if you set the [ 52: LCD brightness ] to a bright setting, noise
or irregular colors may appear in the Live View image. However, the
noise or irregular colors will not be recorded in the captured image.
When you magnify the image, the image sharpness may look more
    pronounced than it really is.
Custom Functions During Live View shooting, certain Cu stom Function settings will not take
    effect (p.318).
Lens and Flash The focus preset function is possible during Live View shooting only
when using a (super) te lephoto lens equipped with the focus preset
mode marketed since the second half of 2011.
FE lock and mode ling flash will not work if an external Speedlite is used.

    Shooting Movies
The live image displayed on the camera’s LCD monitor
can be recorded as a movi e to the card. The movie
    recording format will be MOV.
Cards that Can Record Movies When shooting movies, use a la rge-capacity card with a
fast writing/reading spee d as shown in the table.
If you use a slow-writing card wh en shooting movies, the movie
may not be recorded pr operly. Also, if you play back a movie on
a card with a slow reading spee d, the movie may not play back
    properly.
If you want to shoot still photos while shooting a movie, you will
    need an even faster card.
To check the card’s reading/writing speed, refer to the card
    manufacturer’s Web site.
