Troubleshooting 165 6 Poor fixing Make sure that the media type setting in the driver matches the type of paper you are using. (See Type and size of paper on page 2.) Make sure that the two gray levers inside the back cover are in the up position. Choose Improve Toner Fixing mode in the printer driver. See Improve Print Output in Improve Print Output on page 40 (For Windows ® printer driver), Advanced options on page 45 (For Windows ® BR-Script printer driver) or Print Settings on page 54 (For Macintosh printer driver). If this selection does not provide enough improvement, change the printer driver setting in Media Type to a thick setting. Curled or wavy Choose Reduce Paper Curl mode in the printer driver when you do not use our recommended paper. See Improve Print Output in Improve Print Output on page 40 (For Windows ® printer driver), Advanced options on page 45 (For Windows ® BR-Script printer driver) or Print Settings on page 54 (For Macintosh printer driver). If you do not use the machine often, the paper may have been in the paper tray too long. Turn over the stack of paper in the paper tray. Also, fan the paper stack and then rotate the paper 180° in the paper tray. Store the paper where it will not be exposed to high temperatures and high humidity. Open the back cover (back output tray) to let the printed paper out on the back out put tray. Envelope creases Make sure that the envelope levers inside the back cover are pulled down to the envelope position when you print to the envelope. If creases occur with the envelope levers in the envelope position, print with the back cover opened and feed one envelope at a time from the MP tray. ProblemRecommendation The machine will not turn on.Adverse conditions on the power connection (such as lightning or a power surge) may have triggered the machines internal safety mechanisms. Turn the machine off and unplug the power cord. Wait for ten minutes, then plug in the power cord and turn the machine on. If there is still no power, connect the machine to a different AC power outlet. The machine prints unexpectedly or it prints garbage data.Make sure that the machine cable is not too long. We recommend that you use a USB cable that is no longer than 2 meters (6.5 feet). Make sure that the machine cable is not damaged or broken. If you are using an interface-switching device, remove it. Connect your computer directly to your machine, and then try again. Make sure that you have chosen the correct printer driver with ‘Set as Default Printer’. Make sure that the machine is not connected to the same port that is also connected to a storage device or scanner. Take away all other devices and connect the port only to the machine. Turn off Status Monitor. The machine cannot print full pages of a document. An error message Out of Memory appears.Press Go to print the remaining data in the machine memory. Cancel the print job if you want to delete the remaining data in the machine memory. (See Buttons on page 64.) Reduce the complexity of your document or select a lower print resolution. Add more memory. (See Installing extra memory on page 87.) The headers or footers appear when the document displays on the screen but they do not show up when it is printed.Adjust the top and bottom margins of your document. The machine does not change to Direct Print mode when a USB flash memory drive is connected to the USB direct interface.When the machine is in Deep Sleep mode, the machine does not wake up when a USB flash memory drive is connected to the USB direct interface. Press Go to wake up the machine to display the Direct Print menu on the LCD.

Make sure that the USB interface cable is connected directly to the Macintosh and that it is connected to the USB port of the machine. Make sure the printer driver is installed correctly. Unable to print from the application.Make sure that the supplied Macintosh printer driver is installed in the Hard Disk and that it is chosen with Printer Setup Utility (Mac OS X 10.4.11) or Print & Fax in System Preferences (Mac OS X 10.5.x and 10.6.x). ProblemRecommendation The print speed slows down. Add optional memory. (See Installing extra memory on page 87.)
