Troubleshooting 145 6 Paper jams and how to clear them6 If paper jams inside the machine, the machine will stop. One of the following LCD messages will appear to tell you where to find the jammed paper. JamMPTray (1) Paper jam in the MP tray. (See page 146.) JamTray1 (2) Paper jam in the standard paper tray (Tray 1). (See page 146.) JamTray2 (3) Paper jam in the lower tray (Tray 2). (See page 146.) Jam Duplex (4) Paper jam underneath the standard paper tray (Tray 1) or in the fuser unit. (See page 149.) Jam Rear (5) Paper jam where the paper comes out of the machine. (See page 152.) Jam Inside (6) Paper jam inside the machine. (See page 155.) If the error message still appears on the LCD after you remove the jammed paper, there may be more paper jammed somewhere else. Check the machine thoroughly. Note Always remove all paper from the paper tray and straighten the stack when you add new paper. This helps prevent multiple sheets of paper from feeding through the machine at one time and prevents paper jams. 1 23 6 5 4
Troubleshooting 146 6 Jam MP Tray (paper jam in the MP tray)6 Jam MP Tray If a paper jam occurs inside the MP tray, follow these steps: aRemove the paper from the MP tray. bRemove any jammed paper from in and around the MP Tray. cFan the paper stack, and then put it back in the MP tray. dWhen loading paper in the MP tray, make sure that the paper stays under the maximum paper height guides on both sides of the tray. ePress Go to resume printing. Troubleshooting 147 6 If a paper jam occurs inside the paper tray, follow these steps: aPull the paper tray completely out of the machine. WARNING DO NOT touch the shaded parts shown in the illustration. These rollers may be rotating at high speed and can pinch or entrap your hand.
Troubleshooting 148 6 bUse both hands to slowly pull out the jammed paper. Note Pulling out the jammed paper downward allows you to remove the paper easier. cMake sure that the paper is below the maximum paper mark (bbb). While pressing the green paper-guide release lever, slide the paper guides to fit the paper size. Make sure that the guides are firmly in the slots. dPut the paper tray firmly back in the machine.
Troubleshooting 149 6 Jam Duplex (paper jam underneath the standard paper tray (tray 1) or in the fuser unit)6 Jam Duplex If a paper jam occurs inside the duplex unit, follow these steps: aLeave the machine turned on for 10 minutes to cool down. bPull the paper tray completely out of the machine and check inside the machine. WARNING DO NOT touch the shaded parts shown in the illustration. These rollers may be rotating at high speed and can pinch or entrap your hand.

Note Do not put the paper tray back in at this point. dIf the paper is not caught in the paper tray, open the back cover. WARNING After you have just used the machine, some internal parts of the machine will be extremely hot. Wait for the machine to cool down before you touch the internal parts of the machine.

WARNING After you have just used the machine, some internal parts of the machine will be extremely hot. Wait for the machine to cool down before you touch the internal parts of the machine.

Note If the envelope levers (3) inside the back cover are pulled down to the envelope position, lift these levers to the original position before pulling the green tabs (2) down. dUsing both hands, gently pull the jammed paper out of the fuser unit. 12 3 2 3
