31Edge Screen Know Your Device Tasks Edge You can add shortcuts to common tasks performed with stock apps to the Tasks edge panel. Up to ten tasks in two columns can be added. To view Tasks edge: ► When the screen is turned on, swipe the Edge panel handle from the edge of the screen to the center. Keep swiping until the Tasks edge panel is displayed. To configure Tasks edge: 1. F rom any screen, open the Edge screen, swipe until the Tasks edge panel is displayed. 2. T ap Add shortcut to add other tasks to the Tasks edge. • To add a shortcut to the Tasks edge, find it on the left side of the screen and drag it on to an available space on a column on the right. • To change the order of the tasks on the Edge panel, drag each task to the desired location. • To remove a task, tap Delete . 3. T ap Back to save changes. Edge Feeds Edge feeds display select information and notifications on the Edge screen when the screen is turned off. To view Edge feeds: ► When the screen is turned off, quickly swipe your finger along the Edge screen in one direction, and then back in the opposite direction. 32Edge Screen Know Your Device Edge Lighting You can set the Edge screen to light up when you receive calls or notifications while the device is turned over. For more information, see “Edge Lighting” on page 167.
33S Pen Know Your Device S Pen The S Pen is a stylus that assists you in performing various functions. S Pen button Note : To maintain the water-resistant and dust - resistant features of your device, make sure that the S Pen slot and opening are both maintained free of dust and water, and the pen is securely inserted prior to any exposure to liquids. Remove S Pen The S Pen stores inside your device for convenient access. 1. P ush the S Pen inward until it pops out of the device. 2. Sl ide the S Pen out the rest of the way using the notch on the end of the S Pen.
34S Pen Know Your Device Air View Hover the S Pen over the screen to preview content, or view information about an item on the screen. For example: • Hover over an email in a list to preview the message before opening it. • Hover over a photo album to preview the contents or see a picture enlarged. • Hover over the timeline during video playback to preview and navigate to specific scenes. • Hover over an icon or screen button to view the item’s name or description. Note : The preview function is only available when the S Pen’s onscreen pointer is a solid color. Direct Pen Input When filling out a form field in an app (like Name or Phone number in Contacts), you can open a Handwriting window to allow you to write an entry with the S Pen rather than type. To use the Handwriting window: 1. When filling out a form field, hover the S Pen over the field until the Handwriting icon appears. 2. T ap Handwriting . The Handwriting window appears. 3. Use the space provided in the window to write an entry by hand using the S Pen. While writing, your entries are converted into text. • To edit the converted text, use the Space, Delete, and Enter icons. To change the position of the cursor, drag the pointer below the cursor to the desired position for editing.
35S Pen Know Your Device Screen Off Memo You can write quick memos without turning your device on. Note : The screen off memo setting must be enabled. For more information, see “S Pen Settings” on page 169. To create a screen off memo: 1. D etach the S Pen while the screen is off. 2. W rite on the screen. • Tap Save to save your memo to the Samsung Notes app. • Tap Delete to discard the memo. Configure S Pen Settings You can configure settings for the S Pen, including options for sounds and for tracking the S Pen when it is not stored in your device. To configure S Pen settings: ►F rom a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings > S Pen .
36S Pen Know Your Device Replace the S Pen Tip You can replace the tip of the S Pen with the included kit. To replace the tip: 1. Use tw eezers to pull out the S Pen tip. 2. Insert the new pen tip on the top of the S Pen and press until it clicks in place.

S mart select : Draw around an area of the screen to collect it in the Gallery app. 3. S creen write : Capture screenshots and write or draw on them. 4. T ranslate : Hover the S Pen over a word to see it translated into another language and listen to its pronunciation. 5. A dd shortcuts : Add up to three apps and functions to the Air command menu. 6. Set tings: Customize Air command by adding apps and functions, and changing how it appears. 2 4 5
38Air Command Know Your Device To launch the Air command menu: ► R emove the S Pen from the S Pen slot. – or – Hold the S Pen near the screen so that the pointer appears, and then press the S Pen button once. Create Note Launch a new note directly in the Samsung Notes app. For more information, see “Samsung Notes” on page 123. Smart Select The Smart select feature provides a capture tool to select content on a screen. You can then add it to your Gallery app or share it with your contacts. To launch the Smart select tool: 1. T ap Air command > Smart select . 2. T ap a shape at the top of the screen, and then drag a box with the S Pen to select content. The following options appear: • Auto select : Allow Smart select to automatically select content to extract. • Extract text : Identify and extract text from the selected content. • Draw : Draw on the captured screen using the S Pen. • Share : Choose a sharing method to share your content. • Save : Save the content to the Gallery app.
39Air Command Know Your Device Screen Write Screen write allows you to capture a screen shot and then write notes on the screen shot. To use Screen write: 1. T ap Air command > Screen write . 2. The c urrent screen is captured, and a pen tool appears. The following editing tools are provided: • Pen : Draw on the screen shot. Press the Pen icon a second time to change the pen tip, size, color, and to save presets. • Eraser : Erase the writing or drawings on the screen shot. Tap the Eraser icon a second time to change the size of the eraser area and to see the Erase all option. • Undo: Undo the last action. • Redo : Redo the last action that was undone. • Scroll capture : Capture any scrollable areas of the screen that are hidden. • Crop : Crop the captured screen. • Share : Choose a sharing method to share your content. • Save : Save the content to the Gallery app. 3. T ap Save when finished.
40Air Command Know Your Device Tr a n s l a t e Translate words by hovering over them with the S Pen. To access Translate: 1. T ap Air command > Translate. 2. T ap the Source and Target languages to change them to the desired languages. 3. Ho ver the S Pen over a word. • Tap Sound to hear the word pronounced in the Source language. 4. T ap Close to close Translate. Add Shortcuts You can add shortcuts to apps and functions to the Air command menu. To use Add shortcuts: 1. T ap Air command > Add shortcuts . 2. S wipe across the screens, and tap the apps or functions you would like to add to the Air command menu. • To delete an app shortcut tap Remove . 3. T ap Back to save your selection.
