4Assemble Your Device Getting Started Assemble Your Device This section helps you to assemble your device. Install the SIM Card and a Memory Card When you subscribe to a cellular network, you are provided with a plug ‑ in SIM card. During activation, your SIM card is loaded with your subscription details, such as your Personal Identification Number (PIN), available optional services, and other features. Warning : Please be careful when handling the SIM card to avoid damaging it. Keep all SIM cards out of reach of small children. You can also install an optional microSD ™, microSDHC™, or microSDXC™ memory card (not included) to add more memory space to your device. Note : A memory card can be installed at any time. It is not necessary to install it prior to using the device. Caution : Exercise care when using the removal tool to eject the internal SIM card/Memory card tray.
5Assemble Your Device Getting Started 1. Inser t the removal tool into the hole on the SIM card/Memory card tray, and then push until the tray pops out. 2. Place the SIM card on the tray. • Make sure that the card’s gold contacts face down into the device and that the card is positioned as shown. 3. Plac e the memory card on the tray with the gold contacts facing down. 4. Slide the SIM card/Memory card tray back into the slot. Note : To maintain the water-resistant and dust - resistant features of your device, make sure that the SIM card/Memory card tray and opening are both maintained free of dust and water, and the tray is securely inserted prior to any exposure to liquids.
6Assemble Your Device Getting Started Caution : If the SIM card or the memory card is not inserted correctly, the device cannot detect it. Reorient the SIM card or memory card and place it back into the slot if it is not detected. Maintaining Water and Dust Resistance This device is rated IP68 using the Ingress Protection rating system. Your device has been tested in a controlled environment and shown to be water and dust resistant in certain circumstances (meets requirements of classification IP68 as described by the international standard IEC 60529 ‑ Degrees of Protection provided by Enclosures [IP Code]; test conditions: 15 ‑ 35 °C, 86 ‑ 106 kP a, 5.0 feet, for 30 minutes). Despite this classification, your device is not impervious to water damage in any situation. It is important that all compartments are closed tightly. Note: If any liquid is found to have entered your device components or an internally sealed system, this condition will void your device warranty. Follow these tips carefully to prevent damage to the device. • Any device which uses accessible compartments or ports that can be opened should have these sealed or closed tightly to prevent liquid from entering the system. • Whenever your device gets wet, dry it thoroughly with a clean, soft cloth. • Do not expose the device to salt water or ionized water, or to water over 5.0 feet deep for more than 30 minutes. If your device is exposed to fresh water, dry it thoroughly with a clean, soft cloth. If the device is exposed to any liquid other than fresh water, rinse the device with fresh water immediately and dry it thoroughly with a clean, soft cloth. Failure to rinse the device in fresh water and dry it as instructed may cause the device to suffer from operability or cosmetic issues.
7Assemble Your Device Getting Started • Do not expose the device to water at high pressure. • If the device is dropped or receives an impact, the water and dust resistant features of the device may be damaged. • The touchscreen and other features may not work properly if the device is used in water or in other liquids. [071516] Charge the Battery Your device is powered by a rechargeable, standard Li ‑ Ion battery. A USB charger (charging head and USB cable) is included with the device, for charging the battery from any standard outlet. The battery comes partially charged. You can use the device while charging. Note : It is recommended you fully charge the battery before using your device for the first time. Note : For fastest charging times, use the Samsung Adaptive Fast Charger that came with your device. This charger provides faster charging only when connected to devices that support Adaptive Fast Charging. Caution : Use only charging devices and batteries that are approved by Samsung. Samsung accessories are designed for your device to maximize battery life. Using other accessories may invalidate your warranty and may cause damage. 1. Inser t the USB cable into the USB charger/ Accessory port.
8Assemble Your Device Getting Started 2. C onnect the USB cable to the charging head, and then plug the charging head into a standard outlet. 3. Unpl ug the charging head from the outlet and remove the USB cable from the device when charging is complete. Note : This device is also compatible with wireless charging devices approved by Samsung, which are sold separately. When to Charge the Battery When the battery is low and only a few minutes of operation remain, the device sounds a warning tone at regular intervals. In this condition, your device conserves its remaining battery power by dimming the screen. When the battery level becomes too low, the device automatically turns off. For a quick check of your battery level: ► Vie w the battery charge indicator located in the top right corner of your device’s display. A solid color ( ) indicates a full charge. You can also choose to display a percentage value. Viewing a percentage value can provide a better idea of the remaining charge on the battery. For more information, see “Battery” on page 176.
9Assemble Your Device Getting Started Micro-USB Connector You can use the included Micro-USB connector to connect a Micro ‑ USB cable (such as from your old device) to your new device for charging with the charging head, or for connecting to a computer. Note : The Micro ‑ USB connector does not support On‑the ‑ Go (OTG) devices such as memory sticks, external hard drives, or keyboard and mouse accessories. Charging head USB cable Micro-USB connector Reverse Charging The included USB connector allows you to charge another device through a USB cable. When connected, your battery is used to charge the other device, and Charging appears on your device. You can also use the USB connector for transferring contacts, photos, and other content from an old device. For more information, see “Smart Switch” on page 11.
10Set Up Your Device Getting Started Set Up Your Device Turn Your Device On or Off The instructions below explain how to turn your device on or off. Turn the Device On To turn the device on: ► Pr ess and hold the Power key until the device turns on. Turn the Device Off To turn the device off: 1. Pr ess and hold the Power key until the Device options menu is displayed. 2. T ap Power off , and confirm if prompted. Restart the Device If your device stops responding to taps or finger gestures and you are unable to turn it off, you can restart your device. ►Pr ess and hold the Power key and the Volume down key at the same time for more than seven seconds. Initial Set Up The first time you turn your device on, a Welcome screen is displayed. It guides you through the basics of setting up your device. Follow the prompts to choose a default language, connect to a Wi-Fi ® network, set up accounts, choose location services, learn about your device’s features, and more.
