181NFC and Payment Settings NFC and Payment NFC (Near Field Communication) allows data exchange when you touch your device with another compatible device. Enable NFC Activate NFC to allow your device to exchange data with other NFC devices. 1. F rom a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings . 2. T ap NFC and payment . 3. T ap On/Off to turn on NFC. Android Beam When Android Beam is activated, you can beam app content to another NFC-capable device by holding the devices close together. You can beam browser pages, YouTube videos, contacts, and more. 1. F rom a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings . 2. T ap NFC and payment . 3. T ap On/Off to turn on NFC. 4. T ap Android Beam , and tap On/Off to turn on Android Beam. 5. T ouch the back of your device with another NFC - capable device to transfer content, and tap the screen displaying the file you want to share.
182NFC and Payment Settings Tap and Pay Tap and pay allows you to select the default payment application you want to use for making purchases on your device. 1. F rom a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings . 2. T ap NFC and payment . 3. T ap On/Off to turn on NFC. 4. T ap Tap and pay . 5. T ap Payment for the following options: • Choose the app that you want as your default. • Tap If open app supports Tap and pay to choose whether you want to always use the default payment application, or use an open app if it supports Tap and pay. 6. T ap Others to choose other types of payment apps.
183Location Settings Location Some apps, such as Google Maps, may require one or more location services be turned on for full functionality. Locating Method Before using any features that require location assistance, you must enable your device’s location services. 1. F rom a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings . 2. Ta p Location . 3. T ap On/Off to turn on Location services. 4. T ap Locating method to select how your location is determined: • High accuracy : Uses GPS, Wi-Fi, and mobile networks. • Power saving : Uses Wi-Fi and mobile networks (no GPS). • GPS only : Uses GPS only. 5. T ap Improve accuracy to use other connections for determining your location: • Wi‑Fi scanning : Allow apps and services to scan for Wi-Fi networks automatically, even when Wi-Fi is turned off. • Bluetooth scanning: Allow apps to scan for and connect to nearby devices automatically through Bluetooth, even when Bluetooth is turned off.
184Location Settings Recent Location Requests Apps that have requested your location are listed under Recent location requests. 1. F rom a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings . 2. Ta p Location . 3. T ap On/Off to turn on Location services. 4. T ap an entry under Recent location requests to view the app’s settings. Location Services Google Location History™ stores and uses your device’s most recent location data. Google apps, such as Google Maps, can use this data to improve your search results based on places that you have visited. 1. F rom a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings . 2. Ta p Location . 3. T ap On/Off to turn on Location services. 4. T ap Google Location History and sign in to your Google Account for more options.
185Lock Screen and Security Settings Lock Screen and Security Secure your device and protect your data with Lock Screen and Security settings. Set a Screen Lock It is recommended that you secure your device using a Screen lock. 1. F rom a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings . 2. T ap Lock screen and security > Screen lock type to select a screen lock and level of security: • Swipe : Swipe the screen to unlock it. This option provides no security. • Pattern : Create a pattern that you draw on the screen to unlock your device. This option provides medium security. • PIN : Select a PIN to use for unlocking the screen. This option provides medium to high security. • Password : Create a password for unlocking the screen. This option provides high security. • None : Do not lock the screen. • Fingerprints : Use fingerprint recognition to unlock the screen. This option provides medium to high security. • Irises : Use iris recognition to unlock the screen.

S elect your notification preferences, if you choose a secured lock screen option: • Tap On/Off to enable or disable showing notifications on the lock screen. • Hide content : Enable to hide the content of notifications. • Notification icons only : Enable to hide notification details and show only the icon. 4. If you also want to use fingerprints or eyes to unlock the device, tap Fingerprints and/or Irises , and then tap Set up. Otherwise, tap Later to skip biometrics setup. 5. Choose a scr een lock option: • Info and app shortcuts : Display a dual clock, owner information, and app shortcuts on the Lock screen. • Notifications on lock screen : Show notifications on the Lock screen. • Secure lock settings : Set your secure lock functions such as Secured lock time and Smart lock. This option is not available with Swipe. Note : Options vary based on the screen lock type. Fingerprints Use fingerprint recognition as an alternative to entering passwords in certain apps. You can also use your fingerprint to verify your identity when logging in to your Samsung account. Note: Fingerprint recognition uses the unique characteristics of each fingerprint to enhance the security of your device. The likelihood of the fingerprint sensor confusing even small areas of two different fingerprints is very low. But in rare cases, the sensor may recognize a fingerprint that is similar to a registered fingerprint .
187Lock Screen and Security Settings Register a Fingerprint You can register up to three fingerprints. A password is also set up as an alternative to your fingerprint. 1. F rom a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings . 2. T ap Lock screen and security > Fingerprints . • If no fingerprints are registered, you are prompted to choose a secure screen lock and scan your fingerprint. Follow the prompts to complete setup. • To add a fingerprint, tap Add fingerprint and follow the prompts to register a fingerprint and password. You must set a pattern, PIN, or password to protect your fingerprints. • To rename a fingerprint, tap the fingerprint, enter a new name, and then tap Rename. • To delete a fingerprint, touch and hold the fingerprint, and then tap Remove. Confirm when prompted. Fingerprint Verification Fingerprint verification can be used for other accounts accessed from your device. 1. F rom a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings . 2. T ap Lock screen and security > Fingerprints for the following options: • Web sign‑in : Access your online accounts using your fingerprint. • Verify Samsung account : Verify your identity using your fingerprint when logging in to your Samsung account. • Fingerprint unlock : Tap On/Off to enable or disable fingerprint security.
188Lock Screen and Security Settings Irises Use iris recognition as an alternative to entering passwords in certain apps. You can also use your irises to verify your identity when logging in to your Samsung account. Warning : Some people may have dizziness, seizures, epileptic seizures or blackouts triggered by light flashes or patterns, even if they have never had a seizure or blackout before. Anyone who has had a seizure, loss of awareness, or other symptom linked to an epileptic condition, or has a family history of such symptoms or conditions, should see a doctor before using the Iris Scanner. DO NOT stare directly into the infrared iris recognition LED as prolonged use can cause eye strain. Do not stare at the iris recognition LED light when your eyes are less than 20 cm (~8 inches) away from the device, for best results keep your eyes between 25 - 35 cm (~ 10 14 inches) away for optimum recognition. Note : The Iris Scanner is not intended to be used as a medical device and the biometric data collected and stored locally by the mechanism is not intended to be used for any diagnostic, therapeutic, or preventative purposes. Please follow all instructions for use of this feature. For best results, remove eye glasses and sun glasses. Do not use the Iris Scanner in bright sunlight or areas with excessive reflected light (for example, by the pool or seashore). Do not use the Iris Scanner in low light. Look straight at the device (not up, down or sideways), and hold your head still for the scan. Tinted contact lenses and surgically repaired or replaced iris lenses may interfere with operation of the Iris Scanner. Do not walk or operate a vehicle while using the Iris Scanner. 189Lock Screen and Security Settings Register Irises To use your eyes to unlock your device, you must set a pattern, PIN, or password. For best results, perform the set up process indoors, and remove your glasses or contact lenses. Note : To register just one of your eyes, tap the link on the setup screen to register one iris. To register your irises: 1. F rom a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings . 2. T ap Lock screen and security > Irises . 3. F ollow the prompts to register your irises. Iris Verification Iris verification can be used for other accounts accessed from your device. 1. F rom a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings . 2. T ap Lock screen and security > Irises for the following options: • Remove : Delete existing irises. • My irises : Manage your existing irises. • Mask on preview screen : Choose a mask to display when using the iris scanner. • Web sign‑in : Enable to use your irises to sign in to websites. • Verify Samsung account : Enable to use your irises to verify your Samsung account when you access a feature or app that requires it. • Iris unlock : Enable to unlock the device using your irises.
190Lock Screen and Security Settings Unknown Sources Enable installation of non-Google Play applications. 1. F rom a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings . 2. T ap Lock screen and security > Unknown sources to enable this option. Warning : Enabling installation of third-party applications can cause your device and personal data to be more vulnerable to attacks by unknown sources. Secure Folder Lock your private content and apps to enhance security. You must sign in to your Samsung account in order to use Secure Folder. You must also set a secure lock for your device. 1. F rom a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings . 2. T ap Lock screen and security > Secure Folder and follow the prompts to secure content on your device. Secure Startup Protect your device by using a screen lock when your device turns on. Require a numeric PIN or password to decrypt your device each time you power it on. 1. F rom a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings . 2. T ap Lock screen and security > Secure startup and follow the prompts to encrypt all data on your device. Encrypt SD Card Require a numeric PIN or password to decrypt your optional memory card (not included) when you first access it after powering on your device. 1. F rom a Home screen, tap Apps > Settings . 2. T ap Lock screen and security > Encrypt SD card . 3. T ap Encrypt SD card and follow the prompts to encrypt all data on your memory card.
