    Preparation
    Battery Charge
    Place the handset on the base unit and charge for about 12 hoursbefore
    initial use. 
    • The CHARGE indicator lights.

    Installing the Battery in the Handset
    Install the battery in the handset with the charge contacts facing down 
    and close the handset cover, locking it into place.

    Recharge the battery when: 
    —“LOW BATTERY ” is displayed, or

    • Battery life may be shortened depending on usage conditions and ambient 
    temperature.
    • Clean the handset and the base unit charge contacts with a soft, dry clo\
    th
    once a month. Clean more often if the unit is subject to grease, dust or
    high humidity. Otherwise the battery may not charge properly.
    • If the battery is fully charged, you do not have to place the handset on\
     the base
    unit until  “LOW BATTERY ” is displayed and/or  “” fl ashes. This will maximize
    the battery life.
    • The battery cannot be overcharged.

    PreparationSelecting the Dialing Mode
    You can program the dialing mode with the base unit. 
    If you have touch tone service, set to “Tone ”. If rotary or pulse service is
    used, set to  “Pulse ”. Your phone comes from the factory set to  “Tone ”.
    Make sure the base unit is in the standby mode initially.

    Press (*)three times.
    • A beep sounds, POWER and IN USE indicators 
    fl ash quickly on the base unit.

    To select “Tone”, press (7)repeatedly until the IN USE
    indicator lights.

    o select “Pulse”, press (7)repeatedly until the IN USE
    indicator light goes off.
    • Each time you press  (7), the IN USE indicator
    will light up or go off alternately.

    • A beep sounds.
    • You can exit the programming mode any time by pressing 
    (*).
    • If you do not press any buttons for 15 seconds, the unit will return to \
    the standby 
    mode.

    Then press               to go to the next step.
    •You can go back to the previous display by pressing  (OFF\bCLEAR)except when
    entering characters or numbers. To return to the main menu from the sub-\

    You can exit the programming mode any time by pressing and holding  (OFF\bCLEAR).
    •If you do not press any buttons for 10 seconds, the unit will return to \

    How to select a function item from the menu
    1. Press . 
    •The main menu is displayed.
    2. Scroll through the menu by pressing
    to select the desired item.

    •If the selected item has a sub-menu, it will
    be displayed. 
    4. Select the desired sub-menu item by pressing then press .
    5. Select the desired setting.

    When programming is completed, the display will return to the sub-menu  
    (if the function item is in the sub-menu). You can continue programmin\

    You can select the LCD contrast level 1 to 16 by programming.

    the base unit, and try again.
    • If “ LINE IN USE ” is displayed,the base unit or another handset is engaged in an
    external call. Wait until “ LINE IN USE” disappears.
    • While talking with receiver, you can switch to the hands-free phone 
    conversation by pressing  (S\f-\fHONE).
