11 Preparation Battery Charge Place the handset on the base unit and charge for about 12 hoursbefore initial use. • The CHARGE indicator lights. CHARGE Indicator Installing the Battery in the Handset Install the battery in the handset with the charge contacts facing down and close the handset cover, locking it into place. Otherwise the battery may not charge properly. • If the battery is fully charged, you do not have to place the handset on\ the base unit until “LOW BATTERY ” is displayed and/or “” fl ashes. 13 PreparationSelecting the Dialing Mode You can program the dialing mode with the base unit. If you have touch tone service, set to “Tone ”. If rotary or pulse service is used, set to “Pulse ”. Your phone comes from the factory set to “Tone ”. Make sure the base unit is in the standby mode initially. 1 Press (*)three times. • A beep sounds, POWER and IN USE indicators fl ash quickly on the base unit. 2 To select “Tone”, press (7)repeatedly until the IN USE indicator lights. T o select “Pulse”, press (7)repeatedly until the IN USE indicator light goes off. • Each time you press (7), the IN USE indicator will light up or go off alternately. 3 Press (#). • A beep sounds. • You can exit the programming mode any time by pressing (*). • If you do not press any buttons for 15 seconds, the unit will return to \ the standby mode.
