    Battery charge
    Slowly place the handset on the cradle vertically
    (), then lean it back ().
    lAbeep will sound and the following will be
    displayed for an instant time on the base unit.

    the date and time.
    lIf the base unit is in use, a beep may not sound
    and the above display may not be shown.CHARGING

    Note:
    lClean the handset and the base unit charge
    contacts with a dry cloth once a month, or the
    battery may not charge properly.
    lThe battery cannot be overcharged.
    Battery life
    If your Panasonic battery is fully charged;
    — the battery life will last up to 8 hours while in
    use (in conversation).
    — it will last for up to about 21 days while not in
    use (off the base unit).
    lBattery life may vary depending on usage
    conditions and ambient temperature.
    RECHARGE

    Recharge 
    Recharge the battery when:
    — the handset beeps intermittently while it is in
    use, or
    — the RECHARGE indicator flashes.
    Place the handset on the cradle of the base unit 
    for about 4 hours before initial use.
    Automatic security code setting
    Whenever you place the handset on the base
    unit, the unit will automatically select one of a
    million security codes. These codes help to
    avoid unauthorized use of your telephone line
    by another cordless telephone.

    Headset (optional)
    Plugging the headset into the handset allows a hands-free telephone conversation. For best
    results, use the Panasonic headset Model No. KX-TCA87. See page 8 for accessory information.

    Adjusting handset volumes!
    Ringer volume
    4 levels (high/middle/low/off) are available.
    While the unit is idle, press or .
    lIf any documents are in the document entrance,
    you cannot adjust the ringer volume. Confirm
    that there are no documents in the entrance.
    nTo turn the ringer off:
    1.Press repeatedly until the following is
    displayed.

    nWhile the ringer volume is set to off:
    When a call is received, the unit will not ring and

    For rapid access to frequently dialed numbers, the unit provides the navigator directory 
    (50 items).
    For your convenience, the following item has been pre-programmed.
    HELP-FAX (1-800-435-7329):If you cannot correct a problem after trying the help function 
    (p. 9), call using this item (p. 30).
    lIf you do not need the above item, you can erase it (p. 29).
    To correct a mistake
    lPress  or  to move the cursor to the incorrect
    character/number, and make the correction.
    To delete a character/number
    lMove the cursor to the character/number you
