Replacing Consumables 148 Replacing the Transfer Belt Unit When the time to replace the transfer belt unit is reached, the message TRANS. BELT/END OF LIFE appears. Printing can continue even after this message appears; however, since the print quality is reduced, the trans- fer belt unit should be replaced immediately. 1Turn off the printer and discon- nect the power cord and inter- face cover. 2Open the printer’s front cover. 3Remove the all imaging units and waste toner bottle. For details on removing the imaging unit or waste toner bottle, refer to “Replacing a Imaging Unit” on page 135 or “Replacing the Waste Toner Bottle” on page 141. Replacing Consumables 150 7Use a coin to loosen the screws securing the transfer belt unit. 8On the left side, pull to the right the blue shutter lever for the transfer belt unit. Do not remove the blue lever. 11Remove all packing tape from the new transfer belt unit. 12Remove the protective cover from the new transfer belt unit. 13Insert the new transfer belt unit along the rails. Replacing the Backup Battery When the backup battery is at its end of life, the printer’s date and time can- not be retained. Follow the procedure described below to replace the backup battery. Note Only use the coin-shaped 3V lithium battery CR2032. It’s very important to protect the printer controller board and any associated circuit boards from electrostatic damage. Before performing this procedure, review the antistatic caution on page 219. Replacing Consumables 155 2Using a screwdriver, remove the screw. Then, slide the rear cover to the right and remove it. 3Using a screwdriver, loosen the seven screws. Replacing Consumables 156 5Remove the hook, and then remove the backup battery. 6Insert a new backup battery. When inserting the new backup battery, be sure that the + side faces toward the left. Risk of explosion if bat- tery is replaced by an incorrect type. Dispose of used batteries according to your local regulations. Do not burn the backup battery. 7Reinstall the panel and tighten the seven screws. 8Attach the rear cover. 9Reconnect all interface cables. 10Reconnect the power cord, and turn on the printer.
