Use the flash for additional lighting when shooting at night or indoors under low light.

highlight the desired flash mode and press [MENU/OK] to
select.
The flash fires when required. Recommended in most
situations.
The flash fires whenever a picture is taken. Use for backlit
subjects or for natural coloration when shooting in bright
light.

Follow the steps below to choose the focus point used when [AREA] is selected for  [AUTOFOCUS
SETTING]  > [AF MODE]  in the shooting menu.
Press the selector down ( [AF]) to view the focus area display.
At default settings, focus-area  display is assigned to the down  button on the selector
(function button 5). For inform ation on choosing the roles assi gned to the function

Use the selector to position the focus frame.
To select the center frame, press [DISP/BACK].

Rotate the command dial to choose the size of the focus frame.
Rotate the dial left to reduce the frame by up to 50%, right to  enlarge it by up to
150%, or press the cente r of the dial to restore the frame to i ts original size.
Press [MENU/OK]  to select the chosen frame.

If [FOCUS AREA]  is selected for [SELECTOR BUTTON SETTING]  in the setup menu, the
selector can be used to position  the focus area without first pressing the [AF] button.

The camera focuses and sets exposure for photographs when the shutter button is pressed halfway
and focus (AF) and exposure (AE)  remain locked while the shutter button is kept in  this position.
Use focus and exposure lock to c ompose photographs with off-cent er subjects.
Position the subject  in the focus frame.

Press the shutter button halfway  to set focus and exposure. The focus frame will turn green.
This process can be repeated as often as desired before the pic ture is taken.
