35 The Q (Quick Menu) Button Using the Q Button Using the Q Button This section describes the shooting options that can be accessed using the Q button. The Self-Timer The Self-Timer Use the timer for self-portraits or to prevent blur caused by camera shake. 1 Highlight B SELF-TIMER in the quick menu (P 34) and rotate the rear command dial to select from the options below. Press the Q but- ton to proceed. OptionOptionDescriptionDescription RR 2 SEC 2 SEC The shutter is released two seconds after the shutter button is pressed. Use to reduce blur caused by the camera moving when the shut- ter button is pressed. SS 10 SEC 10 SEC The shutter is released ten seconds after the shutter button is pressed. Use for photographs in which you wish to appear yourself. OFFOFF Self-timer off . R Self-timer options can also be accessed from the shooting menu (P 79). 2 Press the shutter button halfway to focus. Q Stand behind the camera when using the shut- ter button. Standing in front of the lens can in- terfere with focus and exposure. 3 Press the shutter button the rest of the way down to start the timer. The display in the monitor shows the number of seconds remaining until the shut- ter is released. To stop the timer before the picture is taken, press DISP/BACK. The self-timer lamp on the front of the camera will blink immediately before the picture is taken. If the two-sec- ond timer is selected, the self-timer lamp will blink as the timer counts down. R The self-timer turns off automatically when the camera is turned off . 99
36 Using the Q Button Flash Photography Flash Photography Use shoe-mounted fl ash units for additional lighting at night or indoors under low light. 1 Remove the hot shoe cover and slide the fl ash onto the hot shoe as shown, stopping when it clicks into place. Optional Flash Units Optional Flash Units The camera can be used with optional FUJIFILM shoe- mounted fl ash units (P 112). Do not use third-party fl ash units that apply over 300 V to the camera hot shoe. The Sync Terminal The Sync Terminal Use the sync terminal to connect fl ash units that require a sync cable. Removing the Flash Removing the Flash Flash units mounted on the hot shoe can be removed by lowering the fl ash and pressing the PUSH button while sliding the unit from the shoe. 2 Raise the fl ash.

DD (COMMANDER) (COMMANDER)A fl ash mounted on the hot shoe can be used to control optional remote fl ash units. PP (SUPPRESSED FLASH) (SUPPRESSED FLASH) The fl ash does not fi re even when the subject is poorly lit. Do not move the camera until shooting is complete. Flash Sync Speed Flash Sync Speed The fl ash will synchronize with the shutter at shutter speeds of 1 /\b80 s or slower.
38 Using the Q Button Intelligent Face Detection Intelligent Face Detection Intelligent Face Detection sets focus and exposure for human faces anywhere in the frame, prevent- ing the camera from focusing on the background in group portraits. Choose for shots that emphasize portrait subjects. To use Intelligent Face Detection, highlight b FACE DETECTION in the quick menu (P 35), then rotate the rear command dial until ON is displayed and press the Q button. Faces can be detected with the camera in vertical or horizontal orienta- tion; if a face is detected, it will be indicated by a green border. If there is more than one face in the frame, the camera will select the face closest to the center; other faces are indicated by white borders. P Q In some modes, the camera may set exposure for the frame as a whole rather than the portrait subject. Q If the subject moves as the shutter button is pressed, their face may not be in the area indicated by the green border when the picture is taken. R Intelligent face detection can also be accessed using the G AUTOFOCUS SETTING > FACE DETECTION op- tion in the shooting menu (P 78).

The options available include bracketing and advanced filters (P 40), macro mode (P 41), depth-of-field preview ( P 48), auto sensitivity control ( P 50), the self-timer (P 35), image size (P 79), image quality (P 109), dynamic range (P 79), film simulation (P 42), white balance ( P 43), AF mode (P 78), focus-frame selection ( P 45), custom settings (P 71), Intelligent Face Detec- tion (P 38), RAW/JPEG toggle (P 69), and aperture setting (P 82) and wireless (P 97) options. Bracketing and Advanced Filters (Fn1) Bracketing and Advanced Filters (Fn1) Buttons assigned this role can be used to select bracketing or advanced fi lter options. R Bracketing and advanced fi lter options can also be accessed from the shooting menu ( P 77). ■ Bracketing When the DRIVE dial is rotated to BKT, pressing the but- ton displays bracketing options (P 54). Press the selec- tor up or down to select a bracketing type; if applicable, you can then press the selector left or right to select a bracketing amount. ■ Advanced Filters When the DRIVE dial is rotated to ADV., pressing the button displays advanced fi lter options (P 58). Once a connection is established, you can con- trol the camera from the phone or download location data. R Wireless options can also be accessed from the shooting and playback menus ( P 82, 83). Macro Mode (Fn3) Macro Mode (Fn3) To focus at short distances, press the function button and select ON. To exit macro mode, press the selector up and select OFF. MACRO ON OFF R The distances at which the camera will focus in macro mode vary with the lens. See the lens manual for details. R Macro mode can also be accessed using the G AUTOFOCUS SETTING > MACRO option in the shooting menu (P 78).

Press the function button to display the options shown below, then press the selector up or down to highlight an option and press MENU/OK to select. Std)(PRO Neg. Std) A soft-toned palette. The range of hues available for skin tones is enhanced, making this a good choice for studio portrait photography. ;; (MONOCHROME)(MONOCHROME) Take pictures in standard black and white. ee (MONOCHROME + (MONOCHROME + Ye FILTER)Ye FILTER)Take black-and-white pictures with slightly increased contrast. This setting also slightly tones down the brightness of the sky. dd (MONOCHROME + (MONOCHROME + R FILTER)R FILTER)Take black-and-white pictures with increased contrast. This setting also tones down the brightness of the sky. ff (MONOCHROME + (MONOCHROME + G FILTER)G FILTER) Soften skin tones in black-and-white portraits. ff (SEPIA)(SEPIA) Take pictures in sepia. R Film simulation options can be combined with tone and sharpness settings ( P 80). R Film simulation options can also be accessed from the shooting menu ( P 109).
43 Default Roles The Fn (Function) Buttons White Balance (Fn5) White Balance (Fn5) For natural colors, press the function button to display the following op- tions, then use the selector to highlight an option that matches the light source and press MENU/OK. The dialog shown at bottom right will be dis- played; use the selector to fi ne-tune white balance or press DISP/BACK to exit without fi ne-tuning. 44 Default Roles hh: Custom White Balance: Custom White Balance Choose h to adjust white balance for unusual lighting conditions. White balance measurement options will be displayed; frame a white object so that it fi lls the display and press the shutter button all the way down to measure white balance (to select the most recent custom value and exit without measuring white balance, press DISP/BACK, or press MENU/OK to select the most recent value and display the fi ne-tuning dialog). • If “COMPLETED!” is displayed, press MENU/OK to set white balance to the measured value. • If “UNDER” is displayed, raise exposure compensation ( P 52) and try again. • If “OVER” is displayed, lower exposure compensation ( P 52) and try again. kk: Color Temperature: Color Temperature Color temperature is an objective measure of the color of a light source, expressed in Kelvin (K). Light sources with a color temperature close to that of direct sunlight appear white; light sources with a lower color tempera- ture have a yellow or red cast, while those with a higher color temperature are tinged with blue. You can match color temperature to the light source as shown in the following table, or choose options that diff er sharply from the color of the light source to make pictures “warmer” or “colder.” Choose for redder light sources or “colder” pictures Choose for bluer light sources or “warmer” pictures 2,000 K Candlelight 5,000 K Direct sunlight 15,000 K Blue sky Sunset/sunrise Shade
