Note:If the system does not function, youwill need to use the key blade to lock andunlock your vehicle. The system allows you to operate yourvehicle without the use of a key or remotecontrol. Passive locking and unlocking requires avalid passive key to be located within oneof the three external detection ranges.These are located approximately five feet(one and a half meters) from the frontdoor handles and the liftgate. Passive Key Your vehicle can be locked and unlockedwith the passive key. You can use thepassive key as a remote control. SeeLocking and Unlocking (page 36). Locking Your Vehicle WARNING Your vehicle does not lock itselfautomatically. If you do not press alocking button your vehicle willremain unlocked. Locking buttons are located on each of thefront doors. For central locking and to arm the alarm,press a locking button once. For double locking and to arm the alarm,press a locking button twice within threeseconds. Note:Your vehicle will remain locked forapproximately three seconds. When thedelay period is over, you can open the doorsagain, provided the passive key is within therespective detection range. Two short flashes of the directionindicators confirms that all the doors andthe liftgate have been locked and that thealarm has been armed. Liftgate Note:The liftgate cannot be closed andwill pop back up if the passive key is locatedinside the luggage compartment with thedoors locked. Note:If a second valid passive key islocated within the liftgate detection range,the liftgate can be closed. Unlocking Your Vehicle Note:When your vehicle remains lockedfor longer than three days, the system willenter an energy-saving mode. This is toprevent your vehicle battery running out ofcharge. When your vehicle is unlocked whilein this mode, the reaction time of the systemmay be a little longer than normal. To exitthe energy-saving mode, unlock yourvehicle. 39Fiesta (CCN)Locks
Press a locking button once. Note:A valid passive key must be locatedwithin the detection range of that door. One long flash of the direction indicatorsconfirms that all the doors and the liftgatehave been unlocked and that the alarmhas been disarmed. Unlocking Only the Driver's Door If the unlocking function is reprogrammedso that only the driver’s door and theliftgate are unlocked. See RemoteControl (page 28). Note the following: If the driver’s door is the first door which isopened, the other doors will remain locked.All the other doors can be unlocked frominside your vehicle by pressing the unlockbutton on the instrument panel. For itemlocation: See At a Glance (page 10). Disabled Keys Any keys left inside your vehicle interiorwhen it is locked will be disabled. You cannot use a disabled key to switchthe ignition on or start the engine. You must enable all passive keys again inorder to use them. To enable all your passive keys, unlock yourvehicle using a passive key or the remotecontrol unlocking function. All passive keys will then be enabled if youswitch the ignition on or you start yourvehicle with a valid key. Locking and Unlocking the DoorsWith the Key Blade 1.Carefully remove the cover. 2.Remove the key blade and insert it intothe lock. PASSIVE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM Principle of Operation The system prevents someone fromstarting the engine with an incorrectlycoded key. Coded Keys If you lose a key, you can obtain areplacement from an authorized dealer. Ifpossible, provide them with the keynumber from the tag provided with theoriginal keys. You can also obtain extrakeys from an authorized dealer. Note:Have all of your remaining keyserased and recoded if you lose a key. Havereplacement keys coded together withrecoding your remaining keys. See anauthorized dealer for further information. Note:Do not shield your keys with metalobjects. This may prevent the receiver fromrecognizing a coded key. Arming the Engine Immobilizer After you switch the ignition off the engineimmobilizer will arm automatically after ashort time. Disarming the Engine Immobilizer When you switch the ignition on the engineimmobilizer will disarm automatically if acorrectly coded key is used. If you are unable to start the engine andthe message Key not detected is shownin the display, the key has not beenrecognized. Remove the key and try again. If you are unable to start the engine with acorrectly coded key, and the messageImmobiliser malfunction Service nowis shown in the display, this indicates amalfunction. Have your vehicle checkedby an authorized dealer immediately. ANTI-THEFT ALARM Alarm System Your vehicle may have one of the followingalarm systems: •Perimeter alarm. •Perimeter alarm with interior sensors. •Category one alarm with interiorsensors and battery back-up sounder. Perimeter Alarm The perimeter alarm is a deterrent againstunauthorized access to your vehiclethrough the doors and the hood. It alsoprotects the audio unit. Interior Sensors WARNINGS Do not cover up the interior lamp unitsensors. Do not arm the alarm with full guardif passengers, animals or othermoving objects are inside yourvehicle. The sensors act as a deterrent againstunauthorized intrusion by sensing anymovement within your vehicle. 41Fiesta (CCN)Security
Battery Back-up Sounder The battery back-up sounder is an extraalarm system which will sound a sirenwhen the alarm is triggered. When you lockyour vehicle the system is armed. Thesounder has its own battery and will soundan alarm siren even if someonedisconnects your vehicle battery or thebattery back-up sounder itself. Triggering the Alarm Once armed, the alarm is triggered in anyof the following ways: •If someone opens a door, the liftgateor the hood without a valid key orremote control. •If someone removes the audio ornavigation system. •If you switch the ignition on without avalid key. •If the interior sensors detect movementwithin your vehicle. •On vehicles with a battery back-upsounder, if someone disconnects yourvehicle battery or the battery back-upsounder itself. If the alarm is triggered, the alarm horn willsound for 30 seconds and the hazardwarning flasher will flash for five minutes. Any further attempts to perform one of theabove will trigger the alarm again. Full and Reduced Guard Full Guard Full guard is the standard setting. In full guard, the interior sensors are onwhen you arm the alarm. Note:This may result in false alarms ifanimals or moving objects are inside yourvehicle. Reduced Guard In reduced guard, the interior sensors areoff when you arm the alarm. Note:You can set the alarm to reducedguard for the current ignition cycle only. Thealarm will reset to full guard the next timeyou switch the ignition on. Ask on Exit (If Equipped) You can set the information display to askyou each time which level of guard youwish to set. If you select Ask on Exit, the messageReduced guard? appears in theinformation display each time you switchthe ignition off. See InformationMessages (page 71). If you wish to arm the alarm with reducedguard, press the OK button when thismessage appears. If you wish to arm the alarm with full guard,leave your vehicle without pressing the OKbutton. Selecting Full or Reduced Guard Note:Selecting Reduced does not set thealarm permanently to reduced guard. It setsit to reduced guard only for the currentignition cycle. If you regularly set the alarmto reduced guard, select Ask on Exit. You can select full or reduced guard usingthe information display. See GeneralInformation (page 71). Disarming the Alarm Vehicles Without Keyless Entry Perimeter Alarm Disarm and silence the alarm by unlockingthe doors with the key and switching theignition on with a correctly coded key orunlocking the doors with the remotecontrol. Category One Alarm Disarm and silence the alarm by unlockingthe doors with the key and switching theignition on with a correctly coded keywithin 12 seconds or unlocking the doorswith the remote control. Vehicles with Keyless Entry Note:A valid passive key must be locatedwithin the detection range of that door forkeyless entry. See Keyless Entry (page 38). Perimeter Alarm Disarm and silence the alarm by unlockingthe doors and switching the ignition on orunlocking the doors with the remotecontrol. Category One Alarm Disarm and silence the alarm by unlockingthe doors and switching the ignition onwithin 12 seconds or unlocking the doorsor the liftgate with the remote control. 43Fiesta (CCN)Security
ADJUSTING THE STEERING WHEEL WARNING Do not adjust the steering wheelwhen your vehicle is moving. Note:Make sure that you are sitting in thecorrect position. See Sitting in the CorrectPosition (page 88). 1.Unlock the steering column. 2.Adjust the steering wheel to the desiredposition. 3.Lock the steering column. AUDIO CONTROL (IF EQUIPPED) Select the required source on the audiounit. You can operate the following functionswith the control: Volume upA Seek up, next or end callB 44Fiesta (CCN)Steering Wheel
Volume downC Seek down, previous or acceptcallD Seek, Next or Previous Press the seek button to: •tune the radio to the next or previousstored preset •play the next or the previous track. Press and hold the seek button to: •tune the radio to the next station up ordown the frequency band •seek through a track. WINDSHIELD WIPERS Note:Fully defrost the windshield beforeswitching on the windshield wipers. Note:Make sure the windshield wipers areswitched off before entering a car wash. Note:Install new wiper blades as soon asthey begin to leave bands of water andsmears on the windshield. Note:Do not operate the wipers on a drywindshield. This may scratch the glass,damage the wiper blades or cause the wipermotor to burn out. Always use thewindshield washers before wiping a drywindshield. Single wipeA Intermittent wipeB Normal wipeC High speed wipeD Note:If you press and hold the wiper leverin position A, the wipers will continue towipe until you release the wiper lever. Intermittent Wipe Short wipe intervalA Intermittent wipeB Long wipe intervalC Use the rotary control to adjust theintermittent wipe interval. Speed Dependent Wipers When your vehicle speed increases, theinterval between wipes will decrease. AUTOWIPERS (IF EQUIPPED) Note:Fully defrost the windshield beforeswitching on the windshield wipers. Note:Make sure the windshield wipers areswitched off before entering a car wash. Note:Clean the windshield and wiperblades if they begin to leave streaks orsmears. If that does not resolve the issue,install new wiper blades. Note:If you switch autolamps on inconjunction with autowipers, low beamheadlamps will illuminate automaticallywhen the rain sensor activates thewindshield wipers continuously. 46Fiesta (CCN)Wipers and Washers
Wet or winter driving conditions with ice,snow or salty road mist can causeinconsistent and unexpected wiping orsmearing. In these conditions, you can do thefollowing to help keep your windshieldclear: •Lower the sensitivity of the autowipers. •Change the wiper speed to normal orhigh speed wipe as necessary. •Switch the autowipers off. Maximum autowipeA OnB Minimum autowipeC The wipers will function when water isdetected on the windshield. The rainsensor will continue to monitor the amountof water on the windshield and adjust thespeed of the wipers automatically. Thisfeature can be switched on or off in theinformation display. See GeneralInformation (page 66). Note:When you switch this feature off, thewipers will return to the variable intermittentsetting based on the sensitivity you haveset. Use the rotary control to adjust thesensitivity of the rain sensor. On minimumautowipe, the wipers will operate when thesensor detects a large amount of water onthe windshield. On maximum autowipe,the wipers will operate when the sensordetects a small amount of water on thewindshield. Keep the outside of the windshield clean.Sensor performance will be affected if thearea around the interior mirror is dirty. Therain sensor is very sensitive and the wipersmay operate if dirt, mist or flies hit thewindshield. WINDSHIELD WASHERS Note:Do not operate the washers whenthe washer reservoir is empty. This maycause the washer pump to overheat. Push the button to operate the washers.When you release the button, the wiperswill operate for a short time. 47Fiesta (CCN)Wipers and Washers
REAR WINDOW WIPER AND WASHERS Intermittent Wipe Pull the lever toward you. Reverse Gear Wipe The rear wiper will turn on automaticallywhen selecting reverse gear if: •the rear wiper is not already switchedon •the wiper lever is in position A, B, C orD •the front wiper is operating (when setto position B). Rear Window Washer Note:Do not operate the washers whenthe washer reservoir is empty. This maycause the washer pump to overheat. Pull the lever toward you to operate thewashers. They will operate for a maximumof 10 seconds. When you release the lever,the wiper will operate for a short time. 48Fiesta (CCN)Wipers and Washers
