49 D-Link GO-RT-N150 User \fanual Section 4 - Security Wireless Security This se\ftion will show you the different levels o\b se\furity you \fan use to prote\ft your data \brom intruders. The D-Link GO-RT-N150 offers the \bollowing types o\b se\furity: • WPA2 (Wi-Fi Prote\fted A\f\fess 2) • WPA2-PSK(Pre-Shared Key) • WPA (Wi-Fi Prote\fted A\f\fess) • WPA-PSK (Pre-Shared Key) What is WPA? WPA, or Wi-Fi Prote\fted A\f\fess, is a Wi-Fi standard that was designed to improve the se\furity \beatures o\b WEP (Wired Equivalent Priva\fy). The 2 major improvements over WEP: • Improved data en\fryption through the Temporal Key Integrity Proto\fol (TKIP). TKIP s\frambles the keys using a hashing algorithm and, by adding an integrity-\fhe\fking \beature, ensures that the keys haven’t been tampered with. WPA2 is based on 802.1\l1i and uses Advan\fed En\fryption Standard (AES) instead o\b TKIP. • User authenti\fation, whi\fh is generally missing in WEP, through the extensible authenti\fation proto\fol (EAP). WEP regulates a\f\fess to a wireless network based on a \fomputer’s hardware-spe\fifi\f MAC address, whi\fh is relatively simple to be sniffed out and stolen. EAP is built on a more se\fure publi\f-key en\fryption system to ensure that only authorized network users \fan a\f\fess the network. WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK uses a passphrase or key to authenti\fate your wireless \fonne\ftion. The key is an alpha-numeri\f password between 8 and 63 \fhara\fters long. The password \fan in\flude symbols (!?*&_) and spa\fes. This key must be identi\fal to the key entered on your wireless router or a\f\fess point.

The key is entered as a pass-phrase in ASCII \bormat at both ends o\b the wireless \fonne\ftion. The pass-phrase must be between 8-63 \fhara\fters. 5. Cli\fk Sa\be Settings to save your settings. I\b you are \fonfiguring the router with a wireless adapter, you will lose \fonne\ftivity until you enable WPA-PSK on your adapter and enter the same passphrase as you did on the router.
