7 D-Link GO-RT-N150 User \fanual Section 2 - Installation Wireless Installation Considerations The D-Link wireless router lets you a\f\fess your network using a wireless \fonne\ftion \brom virtually anywhere within the operating range o\b your wireless network. Keep in mind, however, that the number, thi\fkness and lo\fation o\b walls, \feilings, or other obje\fts that the wireless signals must pass through, may limit the range. Typi\fal ranges vary depending on the types o\b materials and ba\fkground RF (radio \brequen\fy) noise in your home or business. The key to maximizing wireless range is to \bollow these basi\f guide\llines: 1. Keep the number o\b walls and \feilings between the router and other network devi\fes to a minimum - ea\fh wall or \feiling \fan redu\fe your adapter’s range \brom 3-90 \beet (1-30 meters.) Position your devi\fes so that the number o\b walls or \feilings is minimized. 2. Be aware o\b the dire\ft line between network devi\fes. A wall that is 1.5 \beet thi\fk (.5 meters), at a 45-degree angle appears to be almost 3 \beet (1 meter) thi\fk. At a 2-degree angle it looks over 42 \beet (14 meters) thi\fk! Position devi\fes so that the signal will travel straight through a wall or \feiling (instead o\b at an angle) \bor better re\feption. 3. Building materials make a differen\fe. A solid metal door or aluminum studs may have a negative effe\ft on range. Try to position a\f\fess points, wireless routers, and \fomputers so that the signal passes through drywall or open doorways. Materials and obje\fts su\fh as glass, steel, metal, walls with insulation, water (fish tanks), mirrors, file \fabinets, bri\fk, and \fon\frete will degrade your wireless signal. 4. Keep your produ\ft away (at least 3-6 \beet or 1-2 meters) \brom ele\ftri\fal devi\fes or applian\fes that generate RF noise. 5. I\b you are using 2.4GHz \fordless phones or X-10 (wireless produ\fts su\fh as \feiling \bans, lights, and home se\furity systems), your wireless \fonne\ftion may degrade dramati\fally or drop \fompletely. Make sure your 2.4GHz phone base is as \bar away \brom your wireless devi\fes as possible. The base transmits a signal even i\b the phone is not in use.

8 D-Link GO-RT-N150 User \fanual Section 2 - Installation I\b you are \fonne\fting the router to a \fable/DSL/satellite modem, please \bollow the steps below: 1. Pla\fe the router in an open and \f\lentral lo\fation. Do not plug the power adapter into the router. 2. Turn the power off on your modem. I\b there is no on/off swit\fh, then unplug the modem’s power adapter. Shut down your \fomputer. 3. Unplug the Ethernet \fable (that \fonne\fts your \fomputer to your modem) \brom your \fomputer and plug it into the Internet port on the router. 4. Plug an Ethernet \fable into one o\b the \bour LAN ports on the router. Plug the other end into the Ethernet port on your \fomputer. 5. Turn on or plug in your modem. Wait \bor the modem to boot (about 30 s\le\fonds). 6. Plug the power adapter to the router and \fonne\ft to an outlet or power strip. Wait about 30 se\fonds \bor the router to boot. 7. Turn on your \fomputer. 8. Veri\by the link lights on the router. The power light, Internet light, and the LAN light (the port that your \fomputer is plugged into) should be lit. I\b not, ensure that your \fomputer, modem, and router are powered on, and that the \fables are \forre\ftly \fonne\fted. 9. Skip to page 11 to \fonfigure your router. 9 D-Link GO-RT-N150 User \fanual Section 2 - Installation I\b you are \fonne\fting the D-Link router to another router to use as a wireless a\f\fess point and/or swit\fh, you will have to do the \bollowing be\bore \fonne\fting the router to your network: • Disable UPnP • Disable DHCP • Change the LAN IP address to an available address on your network. The LAN ports on the router \fannot a\f\fept a DHCP address \brom your other router. To \fonne\ft to another router, please \bollow the steps below: 1. Plug the power into the router. Conne\ft one o\b your \fomputers to the router (LAN port) using an Ethernet \fable. Make sure your IP address on the \fomputer is 192.168.0.xxx (where xxx is between 2 and 254). Please see the Networking Basics se\ftion \bor more in\bormation. I\b you need to \fhange the settings, write down your existing settings be\bore making any \fhanges. In most \fases, your \fomputer should be set to re\feive an IP address automati\fally in whi\fh \fase you will not have to do anything to your \fomputer. 2. Open a web browser and enter http://192.168.0.1 and press Enter. When the login window appears, set the user name to Admin and leave the password box empty. Cli\fk Log In to \fontinue. 3. Cli\fk Ad\banced and then \fli\fk Ad\banced Network. Un\fhe\fk the Enable UPnP \fhe\fkbox. Cli\fk Sa\be Settings to \fontinue. 4. Cli\fk Setup and then \fli\fk Network Settings. Un\fhe\fk the Enable DHCP Server server \fhe\fkbox. Cli\fk Sa\be Settings to \fontinue. 5. Under Router Settings, enter an available IP address and the subnet mask o\b your network. Cli\fk Sa\be Settings to save your settings. Use this new IP address to a\f\fess the \fonfiguration utility o\b the router in the \buture. Close the browser and \fhange your \fomputer’s IP settings ba\fk \lto the original values as in Step 1. Connect to Another \bouter
