4-8 When Placing a Document on the Platen Glass 1Place the first page of a document on the platen glass. 2Press Collate/2 on 1. •COL. appears in the LCD. 3Use the numeric keys to set the copy quantity. (→p. 4-3) Ex: 4Press Start. Ex: •The machine begins scanning. 5Place the next page of the document on the platen glass. 6Press Start. •Repeat step 5 and 6 to scan all documents. 7Press Set. •The machine begins printing out. •When scanning multiple page documents, MEMORY FULLmay appear in the LCD and scanning is canceled. 4-9 Making Copies 4 2 on 1 Copy Use 2 on 1 to reduce 2 sheets to fit on one sheet. Two letter-size documents are automatically reduced to fit on a letter-size page. •The 2 on 1 copy function is not available with an enlarging or reducing function. •If no letter-size paper is loaded in the cassette or multi-purpose tray, LOAD LTR SIZE PAPERappears in the LCD and the 2 on 1 copy is canceled. In this case, load the letter-size paper in the cassette or multi-purpose tray and set the 2 on 1 copy again. •To make a 2 on 1 copy reducing two A4-size documents to fit on an A4-size page, set PAPER SIZE GROUPto Aor ABin COPY SETTINGSof the Additional Functions. Be sure to load A4-size paper in the cassette or multi-purpose tray. Ex: •The machine begins scanning. 5Place the next page of the document on the platen glass. 6Press Start. •After scanning every two sheets, the quantity of copies of the document specified in step 2 will print out. •Repeat steps 5 and 6 to scan all documents. 7Press Setto finish the 2 on 1 copy function. •If the available memory decreases, SCANNING, PLEASE WAITand MAKING SPACE IN MEMare displayed alternatively. If memory space becomes available, the scanning begins again automatically. •If image quality mode is set to other than TEXTwhen making a 2 on 1 copy of a document which has many graphics or photos, MEMORY FULLwill appear in the LCD and copying will be canceled. If this happens, change image quality mode to TEXT. 4-11 Reserve Copy This feature allows you to reserve the next job while the machine is printing out a current job. Reserving the Next Copy Job Confirming the Copy Job You Reserved Making Copies 4 1Press Stop/Resettwice while the machine is printing out. Ex: •Make sure that the machine has finished scanning all the documents, then press Stop/Reset. •It is necessary to return to the standby display in order to reserve the next copy job. 2Load the document to be reserved face up in the ADF* or place it face down on the platen glass. 3Set copy features if you wish. You can set the features below. •Copy quantity (→p. 4-3) •Enlarging/reducing (→p. 4-5) •Image quality (→p. 4-6) •Exposure (→p. 4-6) •Collate (→p. 4-7) •2 on 1 (→p. 4-9) 4Press Start. •The machine begins scanning. •After printing of the current copy job is complete, the next copy job begins. •If the machine’s memory becomes full while scanning, MEMORY FULLappears in the LCD. When the ADF* is used for scanning, the document being scanned stops in the ADF*. In this case, press Set to make the document come out automatically. All of the scanned documents will be erased if MEMORY FULLappears, so divide the document and copy each part separately, or select a lower image quality mode and make copies again. •If the available memory decreases, PLEASE WAITand MAKING SPACE IN MEMare displayed alternatively. If memory space becomes available, the scanning begins again automatically. 4-12 Deleting the Copy Job You Reserved 1Press Stop/Resetwhile the machine is printing out. Ex: 2Use 4(–)or e(+)to display the job to be deleted. Ex: 3Press Set. 4Press 4(–) for YES. •The reserved copy job is deleted. •To cancel deleting the copy job, press e (+) for NO. •Once the copy job is deleted, it is impossible to restore the job again. 5-1 Before printing, the printer driver must be installed in your computer. • If not, please see the Set-Up Sheet. Check if the machine is selected as the default printer. • You can check if your machine is set as the default printer when you open the Print dialog box in an application and your machine is selected in the printer box (see below for details). Follow this procedure if it is not selected. Printing (Ex. Windows 98) Before Printing Basic Printing from Your Computer 5 Basic Printing from Your Computer Chapter 5 1On the Windows desktop, click [Start], point to [Settings], then click [Printers]. 2In the Printerswindow, click the machine icon. 3On the File menu, click [Set as Default] or [Set as Default Printer]. 1With your document open in the Windows 98 application, click the [Print] command. 2In the Printdialog box, make sure your machine is selected in the printer box. If not, select your machine from the printer name drop-down list. 3Click [OK] to print your document.
5-2 Canceling Printing Changing Print Settings Your machine is initially installed using factory-predefined settings, enabling you to print immediately. These settings determine what your documents will look like when printed. You can change these print settings to suit the document you are printing. Unless you save your settings as a profile, your settings are available only for the current print job. For details, on print profiles, refer to the Printer Guide. More Information For detailed information on all printing features, →Printer Guide. 1With your document open in the Windows 98 application, click the [Print] command. 2In the Printdialog box, click [Properties]. 3In the Propertiesdialog box, define your settings on the appropriate tabs or dialog boxes. • If you are dissatisfied with your changes on a particular tab and want to revert to the default settings, click [Restore Defaults]. 4To accept your changes and close the dialog box, click [OK]. • To cancel your changes and close the dialog box, click [Cancel]. 1If you want to cancel printing before clicking [OK], click [Cancel] in the Print dialog box. If printing has already begun, follow this procedure to cancel printing from Windows 98. On the Windows 98 desktop, click [Start], point to [Settings], then click [Printers].2In the Printerswindow, double-click the machine icon, right click the print job, then click [Cancel Printing].

7-1 Your machine requires little periodic maintenance. This section describes the necessary cleaning procedures for your machine. • When cleaning the machine’s exterior or the platen glass, be sure to disconnect the power cord before cleaning the machine. • Do not use tissue paper, paper towels, or similar materials for cleaning; they can stick to the components or generate static charges. Use a soft cloth to avoid scratching the components. • Never use volatile liquids such as thinner, benzene, acetone, or any other chemical cleaner to clean the interior of the machine; these can damage the machine’s components. Cleaning the Exterior Wipe the machine’s exterior with a clean, soft, lint-free cloth moistened with water or diluted dishwashing detergent solution. Cleaning the Scanning Area Wipe the scanning area (shaded areas) with a clean, soft, lint-free cloth moistened with water, then wipe with a clean, soft, dry, lint-free cloth.
