Editing Still Images 173 You can specify a portion of an image to save as a separate image file. Choose [Trimming]. zPress the n button, and then choose [Trimming] on the 1 tab (p. 40). Choose an image. zPress the qr buttons or turn the 5 dial to choose the image, and then press the m button. • Editing is not possible for images saved as in step 3. • Images cannot be resized to a higher resolution. Editing Still Images 174 Adjust the cropping area. XA frame is displayed around the portion of the image to be cropped. XThe original image is shown in the upper left, and a preview of the image as cropped is shown in the lower right. zTo resize the frame, move the zoom lever.zTo move the frame, press the opq buttons.zTo change the frame orientation, press the l button. zFaces detected in the image are shown with gray frames around them (in the upper-left image), which can be used for cropping. Switch between frames as needed by turning the 5 dial. zPress the m button. Save as a new image and review. zFollow steps 4 – 5 on p. 172. Changing Image Color Tones (My Colors) • Image quality of pictures you repeatedly edit this way will be a little lower each time, and you may not be able to obtain the desired color. • The color of images edited using this function may vary slightly from the color of images shot using My Colors (p. 122). Editing Still Images 176 Excessively dark image areas (such as faces or backgrounds) can be detected and automatically adjusted to the optimal brightness. Insufficient overall image contrast is also automatically corrected, to make subjects stand out better. Choose from four correction levels, and then save the image as a separate file. Choose [i-Contrast]. zPress the n button, and then choose [i- Contrast] on the 1 tab (p. 40). Choose an image. zPress the qr buttons or turn the 5 dial to choose an image, and then press the m button. Choose an option. zPress the qr buttons or turn the 5 dial to choose an option, and then press the m button. Save as a new image and review. zFollow steps 4 – 5 on p. 172. Correcting Image Brightness (i-Contrast) • For some images, correction may be inaccurate or may cause images to appear grainy. • Images may look grainy after repeated editing using this function. • If [Auto] does not produce the expected results, try correcting images using [Low], [Medium], or [High]. Editing Still Images 177 Automatically corrects images affected by red-eye. You can save the corrected image as a separate file. Choose [Red-Eye Correction]. zPress the n button, and then choose [Red-Eye Correction] on the 1 tab (p. 40). Choose an image. zPress the qr buttons or turn the 5 dial to choose an image. Correct the image. zPress the m button.XRed-eye detected by the camera is now corrected, and frames are displayed around corrected image areas. zEnlarge or reduce images as needed. Follow the steps in “Magnifying Images” (p. 156). Save as a new image and review. zPress the op buttons or turn the 5 dial to choose [New File], and then press the m button. XThe image is now saved as a new file.zFollow step 5 on p. 172. Correcting Red-Eye • Some images may not be corrected accurately. • To overwrite the original image with the corrected image, choose [Overwrite] in step 4. In this case, the original image will be erased. • Protected images cannot be overwritten. COPY
178 You can cut movies to remove unneeded portions at the beginning or end. Choose *. zFollowing steps 1 – 3 on p. 146, choose * and press the m button. XThe movie editing panel and editing bar are now displayed. Specify portions to cut. zPress the op buttons to choose or .zTo view the portions you can cut (identified by on the screen), press the qr buttons or turn the 5 dial to move . Cut the beginning of the movie (from ) by choosing , and cut the end of the movie by choosing . zEven if you move to a position other than a mark, choosing will only cut the portion from the nearest to the left, and choosing will cut the portion from the nearest to the right. Review the edited movie. zPress the op buttons to choose , and then press the m button. The edited movie is now played. zTo edit the movie again, repeat step 2.zTo cancel editing, press the op buttons to choose . XThe movie is now saved as a new file. • To overwrite the original movie with the cut one, choose [Overwrite] in step 4. In this case, the original movie will be erased. • [Overwrite] is only available when memory cards lack sufficient free space. • Movies may not be saved if the battery runs out while saving is in progress. • When editing movies, you should use a fully charged battery or an AC adapter kit (sold separately, p. 197).
