     Choosing Subjects to Focus On (  Touch AF)
    You can shoot after choosing a person’s face or another subject to focus on.
    1  Set the AF frame to [Face AiAF] (=  79).
    2  Choose a person’s face or another subject to focus on.
     
    zTouch the subject or person on the 
    screen.
     
    zWhen the subject is detected, the camera 
    beeps and [] is displayed. Focus is 
    maintained even if the subject moves.
     
    zTo cancel Touch AF, touch [^].
    3 Shoot.
     
    zPress the shutter button halfway. After 
    the camera focuses, [] changes to a 
    green [].
     
    zPress the shutter button all the way down 
    to shoot.
    •  If you prefer the camera not to shoot when you touch the screen, 
    make sure [Touch Shutter] mode is deactivated. Press the < n> 
    button, choose [Touch Shutter] on the [
    4] tab, and then choose 
    [Off] ( =
      26).
    •  Tracking may not be possible when subjects are too small or move 
    too rapidly, or when there is inadequate contrast between subjects 
    and the background.
    •  Even if you are shooting in [ e] mode (=
      77), the camera will 
    revert to [] mode if you touch the screen to specify where to 
    focus.
    •  If [Face ID] is set to [On], names will not display when registered 
    people are detected, but the names will be recorded in the still 
    images (=
      41). However, a name will display if the subject 
    chosen to focus on is the same as a person detected with Face ID.

       Shooting with the AF Lock
    The focus can be locked. After you lock the focus, the focal position will not 
    change even when you release your finger from the shutter button.
    1  Lock the focus.
     
    zWith the shutter button pressed halfway, 
    press the  button.
     
    zThe focus is now locked, and [ %] is 
    displayed.
     
    zTo unlock the focus, release the shutter 
    button and press the < q> button again. In 
    this case, [%] is no longer displayed.
    2  Compose the shot and shoot.
    •  Cannot be used with Touch Shutter ( =  39).
    Still Images
     Shooting Continuously as the Camera Keeps 
    the Subject in Focus
    Shoot continuously as the camera keeps the subject in focus. For details\
     
    on the continuous shooting speed, see “Continuous Shooting Speed” \
    (=
      205).
    1  Configure the setting.
     
    zPress the  button, choose 
    [] in the menu, and then choose [] 
    (=  25).
     
    zOnce the setting is complete, [] is 
    displayed.
    2 Shoot.
     
    zHold the shutter button all the way down 
    to shoot continuously.
     
    zThe images are managed together as a 
    group (=  93).
    •  In [
    t] mode (=
      60) or AF lock (=  82), [] is changed to [].
    •  Cannot be used with the self-timer ( =  37).
    •  Shooting may stop momentarily or continuous shooting may slow 
    down depending on shooting conditions, camera settings, and the 
    zoom position.
    •  As more shots are taken, shooting may slow down.
    •  Shooting may slow down if the flash fires.
    •  With Touch Shutter (=
      39), the camera shoots continuously while

     Changing the Flash Mode
    You can change the flash mode to match the shooting scene. For details on\
     
    the flash range, see “Flash Range” (=  204).
    1  Raise the flash.
     
    zMove the  switch.
    2  Configure the setting.
     
    zPress the  button, press the  
    buttons to choose a flash mode, and then 
    press the  button.
     
    zThe option you configured is now 
    displayed.
    •  The setting screen cannot be accessed by pressing the < r> button 
    when the flash is lowered. Move the < h> switch to raise the flash, 
    then configure the setting.
    [] AutoFires automatically in low-light conditions.
      [h] OnFires for each shot.
     [Z] Slow SynchroFires to illuminate the main subject (such as people) while shooting a\
    t a 
    slower shutter speed to illuminate backgrounds out of flash range.
    • In [Z] mode, mount the camera on a tripod or take other measures 
    to keep it still and prevent camera shake. Additionally, you should 
    set [IS Mode] to [Off] when using a tripod or other means to secure 
    the camera (
    
    =
      85).
    •  In [Z] mode, even after the flash fires, ensure that the main subject 
    does not move until the shutter sound is finished playing.
      [
    ! ] OffFor shooting without the flash.
    • If a blinking [
    ] icon is displayed when you press the shutter button 
    halfway in camera-shake inducing, low-light conditions, mount the 
    camera on a tripod or take other measures to keep it still.
    •  Adjustment is also possible by pressing the < r> button, touching the desired

       Shooting with the FE Lock
    Just as with the AE lock (=  73), you can lock the exposure for the flash 
    shots.
    1  Raise the flash and set it to [ h] 
    (=  83).
    2  Lock the flash exposure.
     
    zAim the camera at the subject to shoot 
    with the exposure locked. With the 
    shutter button pressed halfway, press the 
     button.
     
    zThe flash fires, and when [(] is 
    displayed, the flash output level is 
    retained.
     
    zTo unlock FE, release the shutter button 
    and press the  button again. In this 
    case, [(] is no longer displayed.
    3  Compose the shot and shoot.

      Changing the Compression Ratio (Image 
    Quality)
    Choose from two compression ratios, [] (Super Fine) and [] (Fine), as 
    follows. For guidelines on how many shots at each compression ratio can \

      203).
     
    zPress the  button, choose [] in 
    the menu, and choose the desired option

     Shooting Movies with Subjects at the Same Size Shown 
    before Shooting
    Normally, once movie recording begins, the image display area changes 
    and subjects are enlarged to allow for correction of significant camera \
    shake. To shoot subjects at the same size shown before shooting, you can 
    choose not to reduce significant camera shake.
     
    zFollow the steps in “Changing the IS 
    Mode Settings” (=  85) to access the 
    [IS Settings] screen.
     
    zChoose [Dynamic IS], and then choose 
    [2] (=  26).
    •  You can also set [IS Mode] to [Off], so that subjects are recorded at the same 
    size shown before shooting.

      Changing the IS Mode Settings
    1  Access the setting screen.
     
    zPress the  button, choose [IS 
    Settings] on the [4] tab, and then press 
    the  button (=
      26).
    2  Configure the setting.
     
    zChoose [IS Mode], and then choose the 
    desired option ( =  26).
    ContinuousOptimal image stabilization for the shooting conditions is automatically\
     
    applied (Intelligent IS) (
    =  35).
    Shoot Only* Image stabilization is active only at the moment of shooting.
    Off Deactivates image stabilization.
    * The setting is changed to [Continuous] for movie recording.
    •  If image stabilization cannot prevent camera shake, mount the 
    camera on a tripod or take other measures to hold it still. In this

     Viewing
    After shooting images or movies, you can view them on the screen as 
    follows.
     1  Enter Playback mode.
     
    zPress the  button.
     
    zYour last shot is displayed.
     2  Browse through your images.
     
    zTo view the previous image, press the 
     button. To view the next image, 
    press the  button.
     
    zTo access Scroll Display mode, press and 
    hold the  buttons for at least one 
    second. In this mode, press the  
    buttons to browse through images.
     
    zTo return to single-image display, press 
    the  button.
     
    zTo browse images grouped by shooting 
    date, press the  buttons in 
    Scroll Display mode.
     
    zMovies are identified by a [] icon. To 
    play movies, go to step 3.
     3 Play movies.
     
    zTo start playback, press the  button, 
    press the  buttons to choose 
    [
    ], and then press the  button 
    again.
     4  Adjust the volume.
     
    zPress the  buttons to adjust the 
    volume.
     
    zTo adjust the volume when the volume 
    indicator is no longer displayed, press the 
     buttons.
     5 Pause playback.
     
    zTo pause or resume playback, press the 
     button.
     
    zAfter the movie is finished, [] is 
    displayed.

    • To switch to Shooting mode from Playback mode, press the shutter button 
    halfway.
    •   To deactivate Scroll Display
    , choose MENU (=
      26) > [
    1] tab > [Scroll 
    Display] > [Off].
    •   To have the most recent shot displayed when you enter Playback mode, 
    choose MENU ( =
      26) > [
    1] tab > [Resume] > [Last shot].
    •   To change the transition shown between images, access MENU ( =  26) and 
    choose your desired effect in [ 1] tab > [Transition Effect].
     Touch-Screen Operations
     
    zTo view the next image, drag left across 
    the screen, and to view the previous 
    image, drag right.
     
    zTo access Scroll Display mode, quickly 
    drag left or right repeatedly.
     
    zYou can also choose images in Scroll 
    Display mode by dragging left or right.
     
    zTouching the central image will restore 
    single-image display.
     
    zTo browse images grouped by shooting 
    date in Scroll Display mode, drag up or 
    down.
     
    zTo start playback, touch [] in step 3 of 
    “Viewing” ( =  87).
     
    zTo adjust the volume during movie 
    playback, quickly drag up or down across 
    the screen.
     
    zTo stop playback, touch the screen. The 
    screen shown at left is displayed, and the 
    following operations are available.
     
    zTouch [] to display the volume panel, 
    and then touch [o][p] to adjust the 
    volume. At a volume of 0, [
    ] is displayed.
     
    zTo switch frames, touch the scrollbar or 
    drag left or right.
     
    zTo resume playback, touch [].
     
    zTouch [^] to return to the screen in step

    (=  89) is a histogram showing the 
    distribution of brightness in the image. 
    The horizontal axis represents the degree 
    of brightness, and the vertical axis, how 
    much of the image is at each level of 
    brightness. V iewing the histogram is a 
    way to check exposure.

     GPS Information Display
     
    zUsing a smartphone connected to the 
    camera via Wi-Fi, you can geotag images 
    on the camera, adding information such 
    as latitude, longitude, and elevation 
    (=
      147). Geotagged images are labeled 
    with a [] icon in detailed information 
    display. Press the  button to view the 
    information recorded.
     
    zLatitude, longitude, elevation, and UTC 
    (shooting date and time) are listed from 
    top to bottom.
     
    zPress the  button again to return to 
    detailed information display.
    •  [---] is shown instead of numerical values for items not available on 
    your smartphone or items not recorded correctly.
    •  UTC: Coordinated Universal Time, essentially the same as Greenwich Mean 
    Time
    •  GPS information display is not available for images that lack this infor\
    mation.
    •  You can also switch to GPS information display by dragging the lower half\
     of 
    the screen upward or downward in detailed information display.

    zChoose a still image labeled with 
    [].
     
    zTouch [] to play only the clips that 
    were recorded with Movie Digest images.
     
    zAfter playback, the previous screen is 
    displayed again.
     Viewing by DateDigest movies can be viewed by date.
    1  Choose a movie.
     
    zPress the  button, choose [List/
    Play Digest Movies] on the [1] tab, and 
    then choose a date ( =
      26).
    2  Play the movie.
     
    zPress the  button to start playback.
    Movies
     Viewing Short Movies Created When 
    Shooting Still Images (Digest Movies)
    View digest movies recorded automatically in [] mode (=  55) on a day 
    of still image shooting as follows.
     1  Choose an image.
     
    zChoose a still image labeled with 
    [].
     2  Play the movie.
     
    zPress the  button, and then choose 
    [] in the menu (=  25).
     
    zThe movie recorded automatically on the 
    day of still image shooting is played back, 
    from the beginning.
    •  After a moment, [] will no longer be displayed when you are using the 
    camera with information display deactivated ( =  89).
    •  You can also play digest movies by touching [
    ] on the screen in step 1 
    and then touching [] twice.
