3 Creating and Selecting a Folder With the Select folder screen displayed, turn the < 5> dial to select the desired folder, then press < 0>. The folder where the captured images will be saved will be selected. Subsequent captured images will be recorded into the selected folder. Selecting a Folder Number of images in folder Folder nameLowest file number Highest file number About FoldersAs with “ 100EOS7D ” for example, the folder name starts with three digits (folder number) followed by five alphanum eric characters. A folder can contain up to 9999 images (file No. 0001 - 9999). When a folder becomes full, a new folder with a higher one-up folder number is created automatically. Also, if manual reset (p.85) is executed, a new folder will be created automatically. Folders numbered from 100 to 999 can be created. Creating Folders with a Personal ComputerWith the card open on the screen, create a new folder named “ DCIM”. Open the DCIM folder and create as many folders as necessary to save and organize your images. The folder name must follow the “ 100ABC_D” format where the first three digits is 100 - 999 followed by five alphanumeric characters. The five characters can be a combination of upper- or lower-case letters from A to Z, numerals, and an underscore “_”. There can be no space in the folder name. Also, folder names cannot have the same three-digit number such as “100ABC_D” and “100W_XYZ” even if the letters are different.
The file name has four alphanumeric characters followed by a four-digit image number (p.84) and extension. The first four characters will be “IMG_” by default, but you can change this. With “User setting1”, you can change and register the four characters as desired. With “User setting2”, if you register three characters, the fourth character from the left will be appended automatically to indicate the image size. 1Select [File name]. Under the [7 ] tab, select [File name ], then press < 0>. 2Select [Change User setting*]. Turn the < 5> dial to select [ Change User setting* ], then press < 0>. 3Enter any alphanumeric characters. For User setting1, enter four characters. For User setting2, enter three characters. Press the < L> button to delete any unnecessary characters. Press the < A> button, and the text palette will be highlighted in a color frame. Text can be entered. Operate the < 5> dial or < 9> to move the and select the desired character. Then press < 0> to enter it. 3 Changing the File Name Registering or Changing the File Name (Ex.) IMG_10001.JPG
3 Changing the File Name 4Exit the setting. Enter the required number of alphanumeric characters, then press the < M > button. The new file name will be registered and the screen in step 2 will reappear. 5Select the registered file name. Turn the < 5> dial to select [ File name ], then press < 0>. Turn the < 5> dial to select the registered file name, then press < 0 >. If User setting2 has been registered, select “*** (the 3 characters registered) + image size”. Settings About User setting2When you select the “*** + image size” registered with User setting2 and take pictures, the image-recording qua lity character will be automatically appended as the file name’s fourth character from the left. The meaning of the image-recording quality characters is as follows: “*** L” = 73 , 83, 1 “*** M” = 74 , 84, 41 “*** S” = 76 , 86, 61 When the image is transferred to a personal computer, the automatically appended fourth character will be included. You can then see the image size without having to open the image. RAW or JPEG images can be distinguished with the extension. The first character cannot be an underscore “_”. The extension will be “.JPG” for JPEG images, “.CR2” for RAW images, and “.MOV” for movies. When you shoot a movie with User setting2, the file name’s fourth character will be an underscore “_”.
The four-digit file number is like the frame number on a roll of film. The captured images are assigned a sequential file number from 0001 to 9999 and saved in one folder. You can change how the file number is assigned. 1Select [File numbering]. Under the [5 ] tab, select [File numbering], then press < 0>. 2Select the file numbering method. Turn the < 5> dial to select the desired method, then press < 0>. Continues the file numbering sequence even after the card is replaced or a new folder is created. Even after you replace the card or create a new folder, the file numbering continues in sequence up to 9999. This is convenient when you want to save the images numbered anywhere between 0001 to 9999 in multiple cards or folders into one folder in your personal computer. If the replacement card or existing folder already contains images recorded previously, the file numbering of the new images might continue from the file numbering of the existing images in the card or folder. If you want to use continuous file numbering, you should use a newly-formatted card each time. 3 File Numb ering Methods (Ex.) IMG_0001.JPG Continuous 0051 Card-1 0052 Card-2 File numbering after replacing the card Next sequential file number 100 00511010052Card-1 File numbering after creating a folder
3 File Numbering Methods Restarting the file numbering from 0001 each time the card is replaced or a new folder is created. Whenever the card is replaced or a new folder created, the file numbering starts from 0001. This is convenient if you want to organize images according to cards or folders. If the replacement card or existing folder already contains images reco rded previously, the file numbering of the new images might continue from the file numbering of the existing images in the card or folder. If you want to save images with the file numbering starting from 0001, use a newly formatted card each time. To reset the file numbering to 0001 or to start from file number 0001 in a new folder. When you reset the file numbering manually, a new folder is created automatically and the file numbering of images saved to that folder starts from 0001. This is convenient when you want to use different folders for the images taken yesterday and the ones taken today, for example. After the manual reset, the file numbering returns to continuous or auto reset. Auto Reset Manual Reset 0051 Card-1 0001 Card-2 File numbering after replacing the card File numbering is reset 100 00511010001Card-1 File numbering after creating a folder If the file number in folder No. 999 reaches 9999, shooting will not be possible even if the card still has storage capacity. The LCD monitor will display a message to replace the card. Replace with a new card.
The color space refers to the range of reproducible colors. With this camera, you can set the color space for captured images to sRGB or Adobe RGB. For normal shooting, sRGB is recommended. In the fully-automatic modes (1/C ), sRGB is set automatically. 1Select [Color space]. Under the [2 ] tab, select [Color space], then press < 0>. 2Set the desired color space. Select [ sRGB] or [Adobe RGB ], then press < 0>. This color space is mainly used for commercial printing and other industrial uses. This setting is not recommended if you do not know about image processing, Adobe RGB, and Design rule for Camera File System 2.0 (Exif 2.21). The image wi ll look very subdued in the sRGB personal computer environment and with printers not compatible with Design rule for Camera File System 2.0 (Exif 2.21). Post-processing of the image with software will therefore be required. 3 Setting the Color Space N About Adobe RGB If the captured still photo was shot in the Adobe RGB color space, the first character in the file name will be an underscore _. The ICC profile is not appended. The ICC profile is explained in the PDF Software Instruction Manual on the CD-ROM.

If the [ 1 Beep ] menu is set to [Off ], the beeper will not sound when focus is achieved. With AI Servo AF, the beeper will not sound even when focus is achieved. Also, the focus conf irmation light in the viewfinder will not light.
f: Selecting the AF Mode N AI Focus AF switches the AF mode from One-Shot AF to AI Servo AF automatically if the still subject starts moving. After the subject is focused in the One-Shot AF mode, if the subject starts moving, the camera will detect the movement and change the AF mode automatically to AI Servo AF. Under low-light conditions, when you press the shutter button halfway, the built-in flash fires a brief burst of flashes. It illuminates the subject to enable easier autofocusing. AI Focus AF for Automatic Switching of AF Mode AF-Assist Beam with the Built-in Flash When focus is achieved in the AI Focus AF mode with the Servo mode active, the beeper will sound softly. In the d /s /f /a /F shooting modes, press the < I> button to pop- up the built-in flash. Then it will fire the AF-assist beam when necessary.
