9 Post-ProcessingImages You can process RAW images with the camera or resize (shrink) JPEG images. A M icon at the upper right of a page title indicates that the function can be used when the Mode Dial is set to < d/s / f /a/F >. * Function which cannot be used in the fully-automatic modes ( 1/C ). You cannot process the RAW images or resize JPEG images shot when the firmware version was 1.x.x with the camera updated to version 2.x.x. The camera may not be able to process images taken with another camera. Post-processing images as desc ribed in this chapter is not possible while the camera is connected to a personal computer via the < C> terminal.
You can process 1 images with the camera and save them as JPEG images. While the RAW image itself does not change, you can process the RAW image according to di fferent conditions to create any number of JPEG images from it. Note that 41 and 61 images cannot be processed with the camera. Use Digital Photo Professional (provided software, p.282) to process those images. 1Select [RAW image processing]. Under the [3 ] tab, select [RAW image processing ], then press < 0 >. 1 images will be displayed. 2Select an image. Turn the < 5> dial to select the image you want to process. By pressing the < I> button, you can switch to the index display and select an image. 3Process the image. Press < 0> and the RAW-processing options will appear (p.194-196). You can magnify the image by pressing the < u> button in step 3. The magnification will differ depending on the pixel count of [ Image quality] set in [ RAW image processing ]. With , you can scroll around the magnified image. To cancel the magnified view, press the < I> button. About the Magnified View
R Processing RAW Images with the Camera N White balance (p.72) You can select the white balance. If you select [ P], turn the < 6> dial to set the color temperature on the setting screen. The displayed image will reflect the setting’s effect. Picture Style (p.66) You can select the Picture Style. To set the parameters such as Sharpness, press < 0> to display the setting screen. Turn the < 6 > dial to select the Picture Style. Turn the < 5> dial to select a parameter to be adjusted, then turn the < 6> dial to set it. To return to the screen in step 3, press < 0>. The displayed image will reflect the setting’s effect. Auto Lighting Optimizer (p.77) You can set the Auto Lighting Opti mizer. The displayed image will reflect the setting’s effect. High ISO speed noise reduction (p.224) You can set the noise reduction fo r high ISO speeds. The displayed image will reflect the setting’s effect. If the effect is difficult to discern, press the button to magnify the image. (Press the < I> button to return to the normal view.) To check the effect of the [ High] setting, magnify the image. 195 R Processing RAW Images with the Camera N Color space (p.86) You can select either sRGB or Adobe RGB. Since the camera’s LCD monitor is not compatible with Adobe RGB, the image will not look very different when either color space is set. Peripheral illumination correction (p.78) If [ Enable] is set, the corrected image will be displayed. If the effect is difficult to discern, press the < u> button to magnify the image and check the corners. (Press the < I> button to return to the normal view.) Distortion correction When [Enable] is set, image distortion due to the lens characteristics is corrected. If [ Enable] is set, the corrected image will be displayed. The image periphery will be cropped in the corrected image. Therefore, the image will look slightly larger. (It is not a magnified image.) With Digita l Photo Professional (provided software), you can correct the im age distortion while minimizing the trimming of the image periphery. Since the image resolution may dec rease slightly, use the Picture Style’s Sharpness parameter to make adjustments as necessary. Image brightness adjustment is not possible. When processing images with [ Distortion correction] set to [Enable], AF point display information (p.167) and Dust Delete data (p.201) will not be appended to the image.
R Processing RAW Images with the Camera N Chromatic aberration correction When [Enable] is set, lateral chromatic aberration caused by the lens (color fringing al ong the subject’s outline) can be corrected. If [Enable] is set, the corrected image will be displayed. (The image periphery will also be slightly cr opped.) If the effect is difficult to discern, press the < u> button to magnify the image. (Press the < I > button to return to the normal view.) The chromatic aberration correction done with the camera will be less pronounced than with Digital Photo Professi onal (provided software). Therefore the correction might not be so noticeable. In such a case, use Digital Photo Professional to correct the chromatic aberration. About peripheral illumination correction, distortion correction, and chromatic aberration correction To execute peripheral illumination co rrection, distortion correction, and chromatic aberration correction with the camera, the data of the lens used for the shot must be registered in the camera. If the lens data has not been registered in the camera, use EOS Utility (provided software, p.282) to register the lens data. Distortion correction and chromatic aberration correction are not possible for RAW images shot with an Extender attached. Processing RAW images in the camera will not produce the same results as processing RAW images with Digital Photo Professional. Even if image verification data (p.232) is appended to the RAW image, the image verification data is not appended to the JPEG image after processing.
You can resize an image to make the pixel count lower and save it as a new image. Resizing an image is possible only with JPEG 3/4 images. JPEG 6 and RAW images cannot be resized. 1Select [Resize]. Under the [3 ] tab, select [Resize], then press < 0>. The images will be displayed. 2Select an image. Turn the < 5> dial to select the image you want to resize. By pressing the < I> button, you can switch to the index display and select an image. 3Select the desired image size. 199 10 Sensor Cleaning The camera has a Self Cleaning Sensor Unit attached to the image sensor’s front layer (low-pass filter) to shake off dust automatically. The Dust Delete Data can also be appended to the image so that the dust spots remaining can be erased automatically by Digital Photo Professional (provided software). About smear adhering to the front of the sensorBesides dust entering the camera from outside, in rare cases lubricant from the camera’s internal parts may adhere to the front of the sensor. In case visible spots still remain after the automatic sensor cleaning, having the sensor cleaned by a Canon Service Center is recommended. Even while the Self Cleaning Sens or Unit is operating, you can press the shutter button halfway to interrupt the cleaning and start shooting immediately.
Whenever you set the power switch to or , the Self Cleaning Sensor Unit operates to aut omatically shake off the dust on the front of the sensor. Normally, you need not pay attention to this operation. However, you can execute t he sensor cleaning at anytime as well as disable it. 1Select [Sensor cleaning]. Under the [6 ] tab, select [Sensor cleaning ], then press < 0>. 2Select [Clean now f]. Turn the < 5> dial to select [ Clean now f], then press < 0>. Select [ OK] on the dialog screen, then press < 0>. The screen will indicate that the sensor is being cleaned. Although there will be a shutter sound, a picture is not taken. In step 2, select [ Auto cleaningf] and set it to [ Disable]. The sensor cleaning will no longer be executed when you set the power switch to < 1> or < 2>. f Automatic Sensor Cleaning Cleaning the Sensor Now Disabling Automatic Sensor Cleaning For best results, do the sensor cleaning while the camera bottom is placed on a table or other flat surface. Even if you repeat the sensor cleaning, the result will not improve that much. Right after the sensor cleaning is finished, the [ Clean nowf] option will remain disabled temporarily.
