251 You can play back movies in the following three ways:Use the provided AV cable or an HDMI Cable HTC-100 (sold separately) to connect the camera to a TV set. Then you can play back captured movies and still photos on the TV. If you have a High-Definition TV set and connect your camera with an HDMI cable, you can watch Full High-Definition (Full HD: 1920x1080) and High- Definition (HD: 1280x720) movies with higher image quality. You can play back movies on the camera’s LCD monitor. You can also edit out the movie’s first and last scenes, and play back the still photos and movies on the card in an automatic slide show. k Enjoying Movies Playback on a TV set(p.261, 264) Playback on the Camera’s LCD Monitor(p.253-260) Since hard disk recorder s do not have an HDMI IN terminal, the camera cannot be connected to a hard disk recorder with an HDMI cable. Even if you connect the ca mera to a hard disk recorder with a cable, you cannot play or save movies and images. If the playback device is not compatible with MOV files, the movie cannot be played. A movie edited with a co mputer cannot be rewritte n to the card and played back with the camera. However, vide o snapshot albums edited with EOS Video Snapshot Task (p.232) ca n be played on the camera. COPY
k Enjoying Movies 252 The movie files recorded on the card can be transferred to a computer and played with ImageBrowser EX (provided software). Playback and Editing with a Computer(p.392) To have the movie play back smoothly on a computer, use a high- performance computer. Regarding th e computer hardware requirements for ImageBrowser EX, re fer to the PDF file ImageBrowser EX User Guide. If you want to use commer cially-available software to play back or edit the movies, be sure it is compatib le with MOV files. For details on commercially-available software, co ntact the software manufacturer. COPY
253 1Play back the image. Press the < x> button to display images. 2Select a movie. Turn the < 5> dial to select the movie to be played. On the single-image display, the icon displayed on the upper left indicates a movie. If the movie is a video snapshot, < > w ill be displayed. You can press the < B> button to switch to the shooting information display (p.238). In the index display, perforations at the left edge of a thumbnail indicate a movie. As movies cannot be played on the index display, press < 0> to switch to the single-image display. 3In the single-image display, press . XThe movie playback panel will appear at the bottom of the screen. 4Play back the movie. Select [7 ] (Play), then press < 0>. XThe movie will start playing. You can pause the movie playback by pressing . You can adjust the sound volume by turning the < 6> dial even during movie playback. For more details on the playback procedure, see the next page. k Playing Movies Speaker The camera might not be able to play movies shot by another camera. COPY

OperationPlayback Description 7 PlayPressing < 0> toggles between play and stop. 8 Slow motionAdjust the slow motion speed by pressing the < U> key. The slow-motion speed is indica ted at the upper right of the screen. 5 First frameDisplays the movie’s first frame. 3 Previous frameEach time you press < 0>, the previous frame is displayed. If you hold down , it will rewind the movie. 6 Next frameEach time you press < 0>, the movie will play frame-by- frame. If you hold down < 0>, it will fast forward the movie. 4 Last frameDisplays the movie’s last frame. Background music*Play back a movie with the selected background music (p.260). With a fully-charged Batt ery Pack LP-E6, the cont inuous playback time at room temperature (23°C/73°F) will be as follows: approx. 4 hr. 15 min. If you connect the camera to a TV set to pl ay a movie (p.261, 264), adjust the sound volume with the TV set. (Turning the < 6> dial will not change the sound volume.) If you took a still photo while you sh ot the movie, the still photo will be displayed for approx. 1 sec. during the movie playback. COPY
255 You can edit out the first and last scenes of a movie in 1-sec. increments. 1On the movie playback screen, select [X]. XThe movie editing panel will be displayed at the bottom of the screen. 2Specify the part to be edited out. Select either [ U] (Cut beginning) or [V ] (Cut end), then press < 0>. Press < U> (fast forward) or turn the < 5> dial (frame-by-frame) to specify the position where you want to delete the scene. On the bar at the top of the screen, you can see which part (indicated in orange) and how much will be deleted. After deciding which part to edit out, press < 0>. 3Check the edited movie. Select [7 ] and press < 0> to play back the edited movie. To change the editing, go back to step 2. To cancel the editing, press the button, select [ OK] on the confirmation screen. X Editing a Movie’s First and Last Scenes 256 4Save the edited movie. Select [W ], then press < 0>.XThe save screen will appear. To save it as a new movie, select [New file ]. To save it and overwrite the original movie file, select [Overwrite ]. Then press < 0>. On the confirmation screen, select [OK ], then press < 0> to save the edited movie and return to the movie playback screen. Since the editing is performed in ap prox. 1-sec. increments (position indicated by [ ]), the actual positi on where the movie is edited may differ from the position you specified. If the card does not have enough free space, [New file] will not be available. When the battery level is low, editing the movie is not possible. Use a fully-charged battery. COPY
257 You can play back the images on the card as an automatic slide show. 1Select [Slide show]. Under the [ 32] tab, select [Slide show ], then press < 0>. 2Select the images to be played. Press the < V> key to select the desired option, then press < 0>. [All images/Movies/Stills] Press the < V> key to select one of the following: [ jAll images/ k Movies/z Stills]. Then press < 0 >. [Date/Folder/Rating] Press the < V> key to select one of the following: [ iDate/nFolder/ 9 Rating]. When < zH> is highlighted, press the < B> button. Set the [Display time], [ Repeat] (repeated playback), [ Transition effect ] (effect when changing images), and [ Background music ] for the still photos. The background music selection procedure is explained on page 260. After selecting the settings, press the button. 259 3 Slide Show (Auto Playback) 4Start the slide show. Press the < V> key to select [ Start], then press < 0>. XAfter [ Loading image... ] is displayed, the slide show will start. 5Exit the slide show. To exit the slide show and return to the setting screen, press the button. [Transition effect][Background music ] To pause the slide show, press < 0>. During pause, [ G] will be displayed on the upper left of the image. Press < 0> again to resume the slide show. During auto playback , you can press the button to change the still photo display format (p.236). During movie playback, you can adjust the sound volume by turning the dial. During auto playback or pause, you can turn the < 5> dial to view another image. During auto playback, auto power off will not work. The display time may vary depending on the image. Press the < V> key to select the desired background music, then press < 0>. You can also select multiple background music tracks. 3Play the background music. To listen to a sample of the background music, press the button. Press the < V> key to play another background music track. To stop listening to the background music, press the < B> button again. Adjust the sound volume by turning the < 6> dial. To delete a background music track, press the < V> key and select the track, then press the < L> button. Selecting the Background Music At the time of purchase , you cannot select background music with the camera.
