Movie Shooting CautionsWhite and Red Internal Temperature Warning Icons
If the camera’s internal temperatu re increases due to prolonged movie
shooting or under a high am bient temperature, a white or red < E>
    icon will appear.
The white < s> icon indicates that the image quality of still photos will
deteriorate. You should stop still sh ooting and allow the camera’s internal
temperature to cool be fore shooting again. Since the movie’s image
quality will hardly deteriorate, movie shooting will continue.
The red < E> icon indicates that the mo vie shooting will soon be
terminated automatically. If this happens, you will not be able to shoot
again until the camera’s internal te mperature decreases. Turn off the
power and let the came ra rest for a while.
Shooting a movie at a high temperatur e for a prolonged period will cause
the < s> or < E> icon to appear earlier. Wh en you are not shooting, turn
    off the camera.
    Recording and Image Quality
If the attached lens has an Imag e Stabilizer and you set the Image
Stabilizer (IS) switch to < 1>, the Image Stabilizer will operate at all
times even if you do no t press the shutter button halfway. The Image
Stabilizer consumes ba ttery power and may sh orten the total movie
shooting time or decrease the number of possible shots. If you use a
tripod or if the Image Stabilizer is no t necessary, it is recommended to set
the IS switch to < 2>.
The camera’s built-in microphone will also pick up camera operation
noise. Using a commercially-available external microp hone can prevent
(or reduce) these noises from being recorded.
Do not connect anything other than an external microphone to the
camera’s external micr ophone IN terminal.
If the brightness changes during autoexposure movi e shooting, that part
may look momentarily still when you play back the movie. In such cases,
    shoot movies with manual exposure.
If there is a very bright light source in the pictur e, the bright area might
appear black on the LCD monitor. Th e will be recorded in almost the
same way you see it on the LCD monitor.
In low light, noise or irregular colors may appear in the image. The movie
will be recorded in al most the same way you se e it on the LCD monitor.

Movie Shooting CautionsRecording and Image Quality
If you use a card with a slow writing speed, a five-level
indicator may appear on the right of the screen during movie
shooting. It indicates how much data has not yet been
written to the card (remaining ca pacity of the internal buffer
memory). The slower the card, the faster the indicator will
climb upward. If the indicator becomes full, movie shooting
    will stop automatically.
If the card has a fast writing sp eed, the indicator will either
not appear or the level (if disp layed) will hardly go upward.
First, shoot a few test mo vies to see if the card can write fast enough.
Still Photo Shooting During Movie Shooting
Regarding the image quality of still ph otos, see “Image Quality” on page
    201.
    Playback and TV connection
If you connect the camera to a TV set (p.261 , 264) and shoot a movie,
the TV will not output any sound during the shooting. However, the
sound will be p roperly recorded.
    Lens
The focus preset function is possible for movie shooting only when using
a (super) telephoto lens equipped wi th the focus preset mode marketed
since the second half of 2011. Indicator

     About the Highlight Alert
When [3 3: Highlight alert ] is set to [Enable], overexposed
highlight areas will blink. To obtain more image detail in the
overexposed areas, set the exposure compensation to a negative
    amount and shoot again.
      About the AF Point Display
When [3 3: AF point disp.] is set to [ Enable], the AF point that
achieved focus will be displayed in red. If automatic AF point
selection was used, multiple AF points may be displayed in red.
      About the Histogram
The brightness histogram shows the exposure level distribution and
overall brightness. The RGB histogram is for checking the color
saturation and gradation. The display can be switched with [ 33:
    Histogram disp ].
    [Brightness] Display
This histogram is a graph showing the
distribution of the image’s brightness level. The
horizontal axis indicates the brightness level
(darker on the left and br ighter on the right),
while the vertical axis indicates how many
pixels exist for each brightness level. The more
pixels there are toward the left, the darker the
image. The more pixels there are toward the
right, the brighter the image. If there are too
many pixels on the left, the shadow detail will be
lost. If there are too many pixels on the right, the
highlight detail will be lost. The gradation in-
between will be reproduced. By checking the
image and its brightness histogram, you can
see the exposure level inclination and the
    overall gradation.
