    Troubleshooting Guide
Set the lens focus mode switch to < AF> (p.39).
To prevent camera shake, press t he shutter button gently (p.43, 44).
If the lens has an Image Stabilizer, set the IS switch to < 1> (p.42).
In low light, the shutter speed may become slow. Use a faster shutter
speed (p.162), set a higher ISO spee d (p.124), use flash (p.188), or
    use a tripod.
Depending on the attached lens, the number of usable AF points and
patterns will differ. The lenses ar e categorized into eight groups from A
to H. Check which group your lens belongs to. Using a lens in Groups
F to H will have fewer usable AF points (p.79).
When you press the < S> button, the blinking AF points are those that
are not cross-type AF points and are only horizontal line-sensitive. The
AF points that light up are cross-type AF points (p.74).
The AF point at the regist ered area is blinking (p.324).
Set the AF mode to One-Shot AF. Fo cus lock is not possible in the AI
Servo AF and AI Focus AF modes (p.70).
Depending on the shutter speed, aperture, subject conditions,
brightness, etc., the continuous shooting speed may become slower.
The image is out of focus.
    There are fewer AF points.
    The AF point is blinking.
I cannot lock the focus and recompose the shot.
The continuous shooting speed is slow.

    Troubleshooting Guide
If you shoot something that has fine detail (such as a field of grass),
the file size will be larger and the actual maximum burst may be lower
than the number mentioned on page 121.
If [z 3: Highlight tone priority ] is set to [Enable], the settable ISO
speed range will be ISO 200-2 5600 (or up to 12800 for movie
shooting). Even if you expand th e settable ISO speed range in [ISO
speed range ], you cannot set expanded ISO speeds (L, H, H1, H2).
When [ z3: Highlight tone priority ] is set to [Disable], ISO 100/125/
    160 can be set (p.146).
If [z 3: Highlight tone priority ] is set to [Enable], the Auto Lighting
Optimizer cannot be set. When [ z3: Highlight tone priority] is set to
[ Disable ], then the Auto Lighting Optimizer can be set (p.146).

Set [z 2: Auto Lighting Optimizer] to [Disable]. When [Standard/
Low/High] is set, even if you set a dec reased exposure compensation or
flash exposure compensation, the im age may come out bright (p.169).
If [On:ContShtng ] is set, Live View displa y, image review after image
capture, and image playback are not possible during shooting (p.177).
When the image-recording quality is set to 41 or 61, the
multiple-exposure image will be recorded in 1 quality (p.183).
The maximum burst during c ontinuous shooting is lower.
ISO 100 cannot be set. ISO speed expansion cannot be selected.
The Auto Lighting Optimizer cannot be set.
Even though I set a decreased exposure compensation, the
    image comes out bright.
The Live View image or movie shooting image is not
    displayed during multip le-exposure shooting.
The multiple-exposure image is shot in 1 quality.

    Troubleshooting Guide
If you shoot at night when the background is dark, the shutter speed
becomes slow automatically (slow-sync shooting) so that both the subject
and background are properly exposed. To prevent a slow shutter speed,
    under [
z 1: External Speedlite control], set [Flash sync. speed in
Av mode] to [1/200-1/60 sec. auto] or [1/200 sec. (fixed)] (p.192).
Make sure the flash (or PC sync co rd) is securely attached to the
    camera.
If you use a non-Canon flash unit with Live View shooting, set [z4:
Silent LV shoot. ] to [Disable ] (p.206).
If you use a flash unit other than an EX-series Speedlite, the flash will
always be fired at full output (p.189).
When the [Flash metering mode ] flash Custom Function is set to
[ TTL (autoflash) ], the flash will always be fired at full output (p.196).

If flash exposure compensation has al ready been set with the Speedlite,
flash exposure compensation cannot be set with the camera. When the
Speedlite’s flash exposure compensati on is canceled (set to 0), flash
exposure compensation can be set with the camera.
Under [ z1: External Speedlite control ], set [Flash sync. speed in
    Av mode ] to [Auto ] (p.192).

If you use flash, the shut ter will make two sounds each time you shoot (p.199).
When I use the mode with flash, the shutter speed
    becomes slow.
    The flash does not fire.
The flash always fi res at full output.
Flash exposure compensation cannot be set.
High-speed sync cannot be set in the < f> mode.
The shutter makes two shooting soun ds during Live View shooting.

    Troubleshooting Guide
It indicates that the camera’s intern al temperature is high. If the white
< > icon displayed, the still photo’s image quality may deteriorate. If
the red icon is displayed, it indicates that the Live View or movie
shooting will soon be terminated automatically (p.215, 241).

If the card’s writing speed is slow, movie shooting may stop
automatically. When the compression method is set to [IPB], use a CF
card with a reading/writing speed of at least 10 MB per sec., and a SD
card with a reading/writing speed of at least 6 MB per sec. When the
compression method is set to [
    ALL-I (I-only)], use a CF card with a
reading/writing speed of at least 30 MB per sec., and a SD card with a
reading/writing speed of at least 20 MB per sec. To find out the card’s
reading/writing speed, refer to the card manufacturer’s Web site (p.217).
If the movie shooting time reaches 29 min. 59 sec., the movie shooting
    will stop automatically.

If the shooting mode is , the ISO speed will be set
    automatically. In the <
a> mode, you can freely se t the ISO speed (p.224).
Under [z2: ISO speed range], if you set the [ISO speed range]’s
[Maximum] setting to [25600/H], the maximum ISO speed for manual ISO
speed setting will be expanded and then ISO 16000/20000/25600 can be
set. However, since shooting a mo vie at ISO 16000/20000/256000 may
result in much noise, it is designated as an exp anded ISO speed (displayed
    as [
    H]).
During Live View and movie shooting, a white or red E
    icon is displayed.
    Movie shooting terminates by itself.
The ISO speed cannot be set for movie shooting.
ISO 16000/20000/25600 cannot be set for movie shooting.

    Troubleshooting Guide
If you shoot a movie when [ Maximum: 25600] is set with [ISO speed
range ] and ISO speed is set to ISO 16000/20000/25600, the ISO
speed will switch to ISO12800 ( during movie shooting with manual
exposure). Even if you switch back to still photo shooting, the ISO
speed will not revert to the original setting.
      If you shoot a movie when 1. L ( 50) or 2. H1 (51200)/H2 (102400) is
set, the ISO speed setting will switch to 1. ISO 100 or 2. H (25600)
respectively (during movie shooti ng with manual exposure). Even if
you switch back to still photo shooting, the ISO speed will not revert to
    the original setting.
If you change the shutter speed or aperture during movie shooting, the
changes in the exposure may be recorded.
Zooming the lens during movie s hooting can cause changes in the
exposure regardless of whether the lens’ maximum aperture changes
or not. Changes in the exposure may be recorded as a result.
If you move the camera to the left or right quickly (high-speed panning)
or shoot a moving subject, t he image may look distorted.
Flickering, horizontal stripes (noise ), or irregular exposures can be
caused by fluorescent light, LED bulbs, or other light sources during
movie shooting. Also, changes in th e exposure (brightness) or color
tone may also be re corded. In the mode, a slow shutter speed
    may solve the problem.
The manually set ISO speed changes when switching to
    movie shooting.
The exposure changes during movie shooting.
The subject looks distorted during movie shooting.

    Troubleshooting Guide
To shoot still photos during movie shooting, us ing a CF card
compatible with UDMA transfer rates is recommended.
Setting a lower image quality fo r still photos and shooting fewer
continuous still photos can also resolve the problem.
Shooting still photos during movie shooting will cause a discrepancy
between the actual time and time co de. When you want to edit a movie
using time code, it is recommended not to shoot still photos during
    movie shooting.
Set the < R> switch to the left (lock release, p.47).
Check the [ 82: Multi function lock ] setting (p.319).
      Check the [ 82: Custom Controls ] setting (p.321).
In the mode, only certain menu tabs and options are displayed.
    Set the shooting mode to < d/s /f /a /F > (p.51).
Set the color space to sRGB. If Adobe RGB is set, the first character
    will be an underscore (p.158).
When I shoot still photos du ring movie shooting, the movie shooting stops.
    Time code is off.
    Operation Problems
    I cannot change the setting with < 6>, , or < 9>.
The camera button/dial’s function has changed.

    Troubleshooting Guide
With [51: File name], select the camera’s unique file name or the file
name registered under User setting 1 (p.152).
If the card already contains re corded images, the image number may
    not start from 0001 (p.154).
The correct date and time has not been set (p.36).
Check the time zone and daylight savings time (p.37).

The shooting date and time does not appear in the picture. The date and
time is instead recorded in the imag e data as shooting information. When
printing, you can imprint the date and ti me in the picture by using the date
and time recorded in the shoot ing information (p.301, 305).
If the card has recorded a number of images greater than the camera
can display, [ ###] will be displayed (p.256).
In low temperatures, the display speed of the AF points may become
slower due to the AF point di splay device’s (liquid crystal)
characteristics. The display speed will return to normal at room
    temperature.
If the LCD monitor is dirty, use a soft cloth to clean it.
In low or high temperatures, the LCD monitor display may seem slow
or may look black. It will retu rn to normal at room temperature.
The fourth character in the file name changes.
The file numbering does not start from 0001.
The shooting date and time displayed is incorrect.
The date and time is not in the picture.
    [###] is displayed.

    Troubleshooting Guide
[Eye-Fi settings ] will appear only when an Eye-Fi card is inserted into
the camera. If the Eye-Fi card has a write-protect switch set to the
LOCK position, you will not be abl e to check the card’s connection
status or disable Eye-Fi card transmission (p.344).
[3 3: Highlight alert ] is set to [Enable] (p.247).
[3 3: AF point disp.] is set to [ Enable] (p.247).
If the image is protected, it cannot be erased (p.272).
Movies edited with a personal com puter cannot be played with the
    camera.
If you operate the camera’s dials or lens during movie shooting, the
operation noise will also be reco rded. Use an external microphone
    (commercially available) (p.235).
During autoexposure movie shooting, if there is a drastic change in the
exposure level, the recording will stop momentarily until the brightness
stabilizes. If this happens, shoot with < a> shooting mode (p.223).
    [Eye-Fi settings] does not appear.
    Playback Problems
Part of the image blinks in black.
A red box is displayed on the image.
