211 Using AF to Focus Shooting conditions that can make focusing difficult Low-contrast subjects such as the blue sky and solid-color, flat surfaces. Subjects in low light. Stripes and other patterns where there is contrast only in the horizontal direction. Under a light source whose brightness, color, or pattern keeps changing. Night scenes or points of light. Under fluorescent or LED light sources or when t he image flickers. Extremely small subjects. Subjects at the edge of the picture. Subjects strongly reflecting light. The AF point covers both a near and faraway subject (such as an animal in a cage). Subjects that keep moving withi n the AF point and cannot keep still due to camera shake or subject blur. A subject approaching or moving away from the camera. Autofocusing while the subj ect is way out of focus. Soft focus effect is applied with a soft focus lens. A special effects filter is used. If you use AF with any of the following lenses, using [ Quick mode] is recommended. If you use the [ Live mode] or [u Live mode ] for AF, it may take a longer time to achieve focu s or the camera may not be able to achieve correct focus. EF24mm f/2.8, EF35mm f/2, EF50mm f/2.5 Compact Macro, EF100mm f/2.8 Macro, EF135mm f/2.8 (Softfoc us), EF28-90mm f/4-5.6 III, EF55- 200mm f/4.5-5.6 USM, EF90-300mm f/ 4.5-5.6, EF90-300mm f/4.5-5.6 USM COPY

215 Live View Shooting Cautions Image Quality When you shoot at high ISO speeds, noise (dots of light, banding, etc.) may become noticeable. Shooting in high temperatur es may cause noise and irregul ar colors in the image. If Live View shooting is used contin uously for a long period, the camera’s internal temperature may rise, degrading image qua lity. Stop Live View shooting when not shooting images. If you shoot a long expo sure while the camera’s internal temperature is high, image quality may be degraded. Stop Live View shooting and wait a few minutes before shooting again. White < s> and Red Internal Temperature Warning If the camera’s internal temperatu re increases due to prolonged Live View shooting or a high ambient temperature, a white icon will appear. If you continue sh ooting while this icon is displayed, the image quality may degrade. You should stop the Live View shooting and allow the camera to cool down before shooting again. If the camera’s internal temperature further increases while the white icon is displayed, a red icon will start blinking. This blinking icon is a warning that the Live View shooting will soon end automatically. If this happens, you will not be able to shoot again until the camera’s internal temperature decreases. Turn off the power and let the camera rest for a while. Using Live View shooting at a high temperature for a prolonged period will cause the < s> and < E> icons to appear earlier. When you are not shooting, turn off the camera. If the camera’s internal temperature is high , the image quality of high ISO speed images or long exposures may be degraded even before the white icon is displayed. Shooting Result If you take the picture in magnified view, the exposu re may not come out as desired. Return to the normal view befor e taking the picture. In magnified view, the shutter speed and aperture will be displayed in orange. Even if you take the picture in magnified view , the image will be captured in the normal view. If [z 2: Auto Lighting Optimizer ] (p.142) is not set to [Disable], the image may look bright ev en if a decreased exposure compensation or decreased flash exposure co mpensation has been set. If you use a TS-E lens to shift the lens vertically or use an Extension Tube, the standard exposure may not be obtained or an irregular exposure may result. COPY
216 Live View Shooting Cautions Live View Image Under low- or bright-light conditions, the Live View image may not reflect the brightness of the captured image. If the light source within the image ch anges, the screen may flicker. If this happens, stop the Live View shooti ng and resume shooting under the actual light source to be used. If you point the camera in a different direction, it may throw off the Live View image’s correct brightness mo mentarily. Wait until the brightness level stabilizes be fore shooting. If there is a very bright light source in the pictur e, such as the sun, the bright area may appear black on th e LCD monitor. However, the actual captured image will correc tly show the bright area. In low light, if you set the [ 52: LCD brightness ] to a bright setting, noise or irregular colors may appear in th e Live View image. However, the noise or irregular colors will not be recorded in the captured image. When you magnify the image, the image sharpness may look more pronounced than it really is. Custom Functions During Live View shooting, certain Cu stom Function settings will not take effect (p.314). Lens and Flash The focus preset featur e on super telephoto lenses cannot be used. FE lock and mode ling flash will not work if an external Speedlite is used. COPY

Shutter-priority AE Shutter speed Changing the shutter speed during movie shooting is not recommended since the changes in the ex posure will be recorded. When shooting a movie of a moving su bject, a shutter speed of 1/30 sec. to 1/125 sec. is recommended. The faster the shutter speed, the less smooth the subject’s movement will look. If you change the shutter speed while shooting under fluorescent or LED lighting, image flicke r may be recorded. COPY
