5 - 28 ROUTINE MAINTENANCE Shipping the printer ■Once your printer has been set-up and used, we do not recommend that it be moved or shipped unless absolutely necessary. ■Color laser printers are complex printing devices. Moving the printer or shipping it without properly removing the installed supplies can result in SEVERE damage to the printer. As a result, your printer may not operate properly afterwards. ■If the printer must be shipped, please go to http://solutions.brother.com for a detailed, step-by-step instruction on how to properly prepare your printer for transport. ■Failure to properly prepare the printer for shipping according to the instructions located at http://solutions.brother.com may VOID YOUR WARRANTY.
TROUBLESHOOTING 6 - 1 6 LCD messages If any problems occur, the printer automatically stops printing, diagnoses the problem, and displays the resulting message on the LCD to alert you. Take the appropriate action, referring to the following tables. If you cannot clear the problem, call the dealer you bought the printer from or Brother Customer Service. . Error messages When any one of the following messages appear, the printer will stop operating. Troubleshooting If you do not follow the instructions for using the printer, you may be responsible for all repairs. 6 - 2 TROUBLESHOOTING NO TRAY 1/2 The indicated paper tray was not detected,install it, or make sure it is inserted properly. SIZE ERROR T2 Specify the correct paper size for the indicated tray. SIZE ERROR DX Can only Duplex on specified sizes. Check the printer driver settings and the paper size in the paper tray. STACKER FULL Remove the paper from the output tray. MEDIA MISMATCH Media mismatch between the Printer and the Printer Driver setting. Put XX in Tray .XX = Plain Paper, Transparencies, Thick Paper, Thicker Paper, Thin Paper SIZE MISMATCH Put Paper size in Tray . Paper mismatch between the Printer and the Printer Driver setting. MANUAL FEED Put paper into tray1, and then press GO. MEDIATYPE ERROR Specify the correct media type: XX XX=T1, T2, or DXXX = T1, T2 or DX NO FUSING UNIT A fusing unit was not detected. Please install one. CARD ERROR An error occurred while accessing the Flash card. Check that the driver is formatted and not in Write Protect mode. CARD REMOVAL The Flash card was removed while the printer was powered on. Power cycle the printer. STORAGE FULL The RAMDISK SIZE is set to 0 MB or there is no more space to store jobs. STORAGE FULL There is no space in the CompactFlash. DOWNLOAD FULL The download buffer of the printer is full. Add more memory to the printer. TROUBLESHOOTING 6 - 7 Paper jams and how to clear them If paper jams inside the printer, the printer will stop. One of the following LCD messages will appear to tell you where to find the jammed paper. Figure 6-1 Paper may jam in the paper tray, inside the printer, at the back cover, or where the paper comes out of the printer. Check where the jam is and follow the instructions on the next few pages to remove the jammed paper. If the error message still appears on the LCD after you remove the jammed paper, there may be more paper jammed somewhere else. Please check the printer thoroughly. After you have followed the instructions, the printer will resume printing automatically. However, the Status LED may come on and the following message may appear on the display: After a paper jam has occurred, data usually stays in the printer memory. The message prompts you to do a form feed to print the data that is left. Press Go to continue.
