4 - 3 OPTIONS 3Remove the paper tray from the lower tray unit. Figure 4-2 4Remove the protective parts and then put the paper tray back in the lower tray unit. Figure 4-3 5Check the two alignment pins on the lower tray unit. Use two people to lift the printer and place it on top of the lower tray unit. Make sure you use the handholds at the bottom four corners of the printer. Check that the pins are properly inserted into the printer. Check that the connector is inserted. Figure 4-4
OPTIONS 4 - 4 6Fit the two stopper fittings on the right and left hand sides of the lower tray unit. Figure 4-5 7Cover the gap on the right hand side with the right-hand side cover by first inserting the hook at the back. Cover the gap on the left hand side with the left-hand side cover by first inserting the hook at the back. Close both of the side covers by putting the notch over the hook of the lower tray unit. Figure 4-6 8To level the printer, adjust the feet of the lower tray unit at the front and back on the right-hand side. Turn the feet to move them up or down until they touch the work surface and the tray unit is level. Turn the lock screw on each foot to secure it. Figure 4-7 Do not put transparencies, labels or envelopes in the paper tray of the optional lower tray unit. This might cause paper jams.
4 - 5 OPTIONS Legal tray (LT-27LG) If you wish to print on Legal size paper, you must use the Legal tray. However, since it is not restricted to Legal size paper, you can choose to load Letter, A4, B5 (JIS/ISO), Executive, A5 or envelopes in this tray. If you want to buy the optional legal tray, call the dealer you bought the printer from. How to install the legal tray Caution When moving or lifting this printer, keep the printer flat. To avoid spills, you must first remove the toner cartridges and waste toner pack. 1Pull out the standard paper tray. Figure 4-8 2Place the legal tray on a flat table and lift the front tray cover. Figure 4-9 When you lift the printer make sure you use the handholds at the bottom four corners of the printer.
OPTIONS 4 - 6 3Squeeze the snap lock on the end of the front paper guide. Slide the front paper guide to the position for the size of paper you are using. Release the snap lock. Squeeze and slide the left hand side paper guide to the paper size you are using, and release it. Figure 4-10 4Put the paper in the tray with the recommended print side face up. 4 - 7 OPTIONS Duplex unit (DX-2700) The duplex unit is an optional device that allows you to print on both sides of a piece of paper. You can print on Letter, A4, B5 (JIS/ISO), Executive, A5 and Legal size paper. When it is installed, you can select either duplex printing or simplex printing on the control panel or with a software command. See PAPER on page 3-11 for details about the menu setting. How to install the duplex unit Caution When moving or lifting this printer, keep the printer flat. To avoid spills, you must first remove the toner cartridges and waste toner pack. 1Turn off the printer power switch and unplug the printer. 2Remove the duplex upper cover, duplex lower cover and duplex cap at the back of the printer. We recommend removing the covers and the cap with a coin or a screwdriver. Figure 4-13 3Remove the protective parts. Figure 4-14 ■This printer is heavy and weighs approximately 31.5 kg (69.4 lb). To prevent injuries, use at least two people to lift the printer. ■When you lift the printer, be sure to use the handholds at the bottom four corners of the printer. ■Do not carry the printer when the lower tray unit and/or the duplex unit are attached.
OPTIONS 4 - 8 4Use the handholds of the duplex unit to lift it up. Figure 4-15 5Insert the bottom of the duplex unit into the grooves in the printer, and then insert both the hooks of the duplex unit to the holes of the printer. 4 - 9 OPTIONS 7Pull out the 2 green sleeves covering the screws as far as they will come. Turn the green sleeves to tighten the screws of the duplex unit to the printer. Once the screws are fully tight, push the green sleeves back in. Figure 4-18 8Put the hook on the left hand side of the duplex unit into the hole of the printer. Secure the screw of the duplex unit to the printer. Figure 4-19 9Connect the connector cable to the printer. Figure 4-20 10Plug the printer into the AC power outlet/socket and turn on the printer power switch.
OPTIONS 4 - 10 Guidelines for printing on both sides of the paper Paper orientation for printing on both sides of the paper The printer prints the second page first. If you print 10 pages on 5 sheets of paper, it will print page 2 followed by page 1 on the first sheet of paper. It will print page 4 followed by page 3 on the second sheet of paper. It will print page 6 followed by page 5 on the third sheet of paper, and so on. For duplex printing, you must put the paper in the paper tray in the following way: Put the side to be printed on first, face down, with the leading edge (top) of the paper at the back of the tray. If letterhead paper is used, put it in the paper tray with the heading face up, and at the back of the tray. ■If the paper is thin, it may wrinkle. ■If paper is curled, straighten it and place it in the paper tray. ■If the paper is not feeding properly, it may be curled. Remove the paper and straighten it.
4 - 11 OPTIONS CompactFlash® card This printer has a slot for an optional CompactFlash® card. If you install an optional CompactFlash® card, you can save macros, the print log, and fonts on it. You can also select your print job and reprint it through the network. You can install the following types of CompactFlash ® memory cards: SanDisk (or SanDisk OEM products) Type II ■32 MB SDCFB-32-801 ■64 MB SDCFB-64-801 ■96 MB SDCFB-96-801 ■128 MB SDCFB-128-801 ■192 MB SDCFB-192-801 ■256 MB SDCFB-256-801 ■Make sure the printer power is OFF before you insert or remove the card, this is so you don’t seriously damage it or lose all its data. ■For more information about the CompactFlash ® card, call the dealer you bought the printer from. ■For the latest information visit: http://solutions.brother.com ■Make sure the printer power is off before you install or remove a card so you dont seriously damage it or lose all its data. ■IBM Microdrive TM is not compatible. ■For more information about the card, call the dealer you bought the printer from.
OPTIONS 4 - 12 Inserting the CompactFlash® card Follow these steps to insert or remove a card: 1Turn off the printer power switch, and then unplug the printer. Disconnect the interface cable from the printer. 2Insert the CompactFlash® card into the slot with the label facing to the left, press the card firmly into the slot. Figure 4-21
