SO-DIMM
We recommend that you expand the printer memory to avoid any MEMORY FULL errors.
The HL-2700CN printer has 64 MB of standard memory and a slot for optional additional memory. The 
memory can be expanded up to a total of 576 MB by installing a commercially available SO-DIMM (Dual 
In-line Memory Module). 
The printer uses memory modules that are:
144 pins, no-parity, SDRAM with 64 MB or more.
The printer is not compatible with Extended Data Output (EDO) DIMM.

Installing additional memory
1Turn off the printer power switch, and then unplug the printer. Disconnect the interface cable from 
the printer.
Caution
Make sure you turn the printer OFF before you install or remove the SO-DIMM. Installing optional 
accessories without turning off the printer could result in electric shock hazard.
2Unscrew the two screws securing the back plate of the main controller board, and then pull out the 
main controller board.

6Put the main controller board back into the printer by sliding it into the guide rails.

7Put the metal plate back on and secure the metal plate with the two screws.
8Reconnect the interface cable (printer cable) to your computer. Plug the printer back in, and then 
turn on the printer power switch.

Optional fonts package
Optional fonts package (BS-3000)
The optional fonts package (BS-3000) is the CD-ROM you need for installing the PS3 136 compatible 
fonts.
Optional barcode fonts package (BT-1000)
The optional barcode fonts package (BT-1000) is the CD-ROM you need for installing the barcode fonts.
Selecting the optional fonts
After you have installed the optional font card, you can select optional fonts using any of the following

Replacing the consumable items
You will need to replace the following consumable items regularly. When the time comes to replace 
consumable items, the following messages will appear on the LCD panel.
The printer will stop printing when the following maintenance messages appear on the LCD panel.
The following are maintenance messages that appear on the LCD panel in the READY state. These 
messages provide advanced warnings to replace the consumable items before they run out....

The following are maintenance messages that appear alternatively with the READY message on the 
upper row of the LCD when the printer is in the READY state. These messages advise you that you will 
need to replace each of the consumable items as soon as possible, since the consumable item’s end of 
life has been reached. The printer will continue printing when any of these messages appear on the LCD 
panel.

■Discard the used consumable item according to local regulations, keeping it separate from 
domestic waste. If you have questions, call your local waste disposal office. Be sure to re-seal 
the consumable item tightly so that the material inside does not spill. 
■We recommend placing used consumable items on a piece of paper or cloth to prevent 
accidentally spilling or scattering the material inside.

Toner cartridges
A new toner cartridge contains enough toner to print up to 10,000 pages for Black and up to 6,600 pages 
for Cyan, Magenta and Yellow A4 or Letter-size single-sided pages at about 5% coverage.
Toner nearly empty message
Check printed pages, page counter, and display messages regularly. If the J indicator starts blinking, 
the printer has nearly run out of toner or the toner is not evenly distributed inside the cartridge.

Replacing the toner cartridges
To replace the toner cartridge, follow these steps: 
1Open the front cover of the printer.

2Pull out the used toner cartridge.
3Take the new toner cartridge out of the box. 
Do not put the toner cartridge into a fire. It could explode.
