Troubleshooting and routine maintenance 83 C Toner Life End Replace Black(K) Toner Cartridge.1 1The toner cartridge colour which is used up is shown in the message. The drum unit and toner cartridges assembly is not installed properly, or one or more of the toner cartridges are used up and printing is not possible.Do one of the following: „Re-install the toner cartridges and drum unit assembly. „Replace the empty toner cartridge with a new one. (See Replacing a toner cartridge on page 115.) „If one of the colour toner cartridges is empty, choose Mono in the printer driver to be able to continue printing in monochrome. Toner Low Prepare New Black(K) Toner Cartridge.1 1The toner cartridge colour which is near the end of life is shown in the message. If the LCD shows Toner Low, you can still print; however, the machine is telling you that the toner cartridge is near the end of its life and the toner will soon run out.Order a new toner cartridge now for the toner cartridge colour that is low. Too Many FilesThere are too many files stored on the USB flash memory driveReduce the number of files stored on the USB flash memory drive. Unusable DeviceAn incompatible or broken device has been connected to the USB direct interface.Remove the USB flash memory drive from the USB direct interface. Turn off the machine’s power switch, wait a few seconds and turn it on again. Waste Toner FullIt is time to replace the waste toner box.Replace the waste toner box. (See Replacing the waste toner box on page 132.) Wrong Paper SizeThe paper in the tray is not the correct size or the tray is empty.Load the correct size of paper in the tray. 84 Document jamsC If the document is jammed, follow the steps below. Document is jammed in the top of the ADF unit C The document may get jammed if it is not inserted or fed properly, or if it is too long. Follow the steps below to clear a document jam. aTake out any paper from the ADF that is not jammed. bOpen the ADF cover. cPull the jammed document out to the left. dClose the ADF cover. ePress Stop/Exit. Document is jammed under the document cover C aTake out any paper from the ADF that is not jammed. bLift the document cover. cPull the jammed document out to the right. dClose the document cover. ePress Stop/Exit. Document is jammed at the output tray C aTake out any paper from the ADF that is not jammed. bPull the jammed document out to the right. cPress Stop/Exit.

Paper jamsC To clear paper jams, please follow the steps in this section. HOT SURFACE After you have just used the machine, some internal parts of the machine will be extremely hot. When you open the front or back cover of the machine, DO NOT touch the shaded parts shown in the illustration. Note The LCD names for the paper trays are as follows: • Standard paper tray: Tray 1 • Optional lower tray: Tray 2 • Multi-purpose tray: MP Tray Paper is jammed in the MP trayC If the LCD shows Jam MP Tray, follow these steps: Jam MP Tray aRemove the paper from the MP tray. bRemove any jammed paper from in and around the MP tray. cClose the MP tray. Then, open the front cover and close it to reset the machine. Open the MP tray again. dFan the paper stack, and then put it back in the MP tray.
86 eWhen loading paper in the MP tray, make sure that the paper stays under the maximum paper height guides on both sides of the tray. Paper is jammed in Paper Tray 1 or Tray 2 C If the LCD shows Jam Tray 1 or Jam Tray 2, follow these steps: Jam Tray 1 Jam Tray 2 aPull the paper tray completely out of the machine. For Jam Tray 1: For Jam Tray 2: bUse both hands to slowly pull out the jammed paper. cMake sure the paper is below the maximum paper mark. While pressing the green paper-guide release lever, slide the paper guides to fit the paper size. Make sure that the guides are firmly in the slots. dPut the paper tray firmly back in the machine.
Troubleshooting and routine maintenance 87 C Paper is jammed inside the machineC If the LCD shows Jam Inside, follow these steps: Jam Inside aPull the paper tray completely out of the machine. bUse both hands to slowly pull out the jammed paper. cPress the front cover release button and then open the front cover.
88 dHold the green handle of the drum unit. Lift the drum unit up and then pull it out until it stops. eRelease the grey lock lever (1) that is on the left side of the machine. Lift the front of the drum unit up and pull the drum unit completely out of the machine using the green handles on the drum unit.
Troubleshooting and routine maintenance 89 C CAUTION Make sure that you use the drum unit handles when carrying it. DO NOT hold the sides of the drum unit. We recommend that you place the drum unit on a clean, flat surface with a piece of disposable paper underneath it in case you accidentally spill or scatter toner. To prevent damage to the machine from static electricity, DO NOT touch the electrodes shown in the illustration. fThe jammed paper may be pulled out with the toner cartridge and drum unit assembly, or this may release the paper so you can pull it out of the paper tray opening.
90 gPut the drum unit back in the machine as follows. 1Make sure that the grey lock lever (1) is in the up position and put the drum unit in the machine. Push down the grey lock lever (1). Note When you put the drum unit in the machine, match the green guides (1) of the drum unit handle to the green arrows (2) on both sides of the machine.

Paper is jammed at the back of the machine C If the LCD shows Jam Rear, follow these steps: Jam Rear aPress the cover release lever to open the front cover.
92 bHold the green handle of the drum unit. Lift the drum unit up and then pull it out until it stops. cOpen the back cover. dPull down the two green levers, one on the left-hand-side and one on the right- hand-side, as shown in the illustration below, and then fold down the fuser cover (1).
