To download the latest version of BlackBerry Link to your computer, visit www.blackberry.com/ BlackBerryLink . SetupyourcomputerwithBlackBerryLink The first time you open BlackBerry Link, you can give your computer a display name that identifies your computer on your device and in BlackBerry Link. BlackBerry Link displays the default pictures, videos, and documents libraries on your computer that you can sync with and access from your device. To set up your BlackBerry ID with BlackBerry Link, make sure that your computer is connected to the Internet. 1.On your computer, open BlackBerry Link. 2.Type a display name for your computer. Click Next. 3.Select the music sources on your computer, such as Windows Media Player or iTunes. On a Mac computer, you can also select the folders for your Documents library. 4.If you have an Internet connection, sign in to or create a BlackBerry ID. 5.Select the checkboxes beside the devices you want to grant remote file access to. 6.Click Finish. tTo add your device to BlackBerry Link without transferring data from an old device or updating the device software, on a Windows computer, click StartUsingMyDevice. On a Mac computer, click Next > Finish. tTo transfer data before you add your device to BlackBerry Link, on a Windows computer, click SwitchDevices. On a Mac computer, click TransferData. Follow the instructions on the screen. If you want to stop associating your device with BlackBerry Link, you can remove your device from BlackBerry Link. AboutBlackBerryIDandBlackBerryLink Your BlackBerry ID is a username (email address) and password used to access multiple BlackBerry products and services, such as BBM and the BlackBerry World storefront. In many situations, your BlackBerry ID allows BlackBerry products to work seamlessly without prompting you to enter your username and password. If you donht have a BlackBerry ID and you want one, you can create it from BlackBerry Link. When you sign in with your BlackBerry ID in BlackBerry Link or BlackBerry Blend, your computer becomes another device that is associated with your BlackBerry ID. All your devices associated with your BlackBerry ID appear in BlackBerry Link. Aboutremotefileaccess Imagine arriving at a meeting, only to discover that a document you need is on your computer. Remote file access lets you use the File Manager app on your device to access and manage media and documents on the computer that BlackBerry Link is installed on. By default, devices you add to BlackBerry Link can access files in the media and documents libraries on your computer, as long as they are associated with the same BlackBerry ID you use in BlackBerry Link. You can turn off remote access for specific devices. By default, remote file access is turned on when you add a new device to BlackBerry Link . On your computer, you can specify the folders that you want to access. 1.Connect your device to a wireless network. For example, a Wi-Fi network. 2.On the home screen of your device, swipe down from the top of the screen. 3.Tap Settings > DeviceConnections. 4.Turn on the AllowConnections switch. 5.Tap the computer you want to access. 6.To switch between paired computers, in the File Manager app, tap . If BlackBerry Balance is enabled on your device, use the File Manager app in your personal space. Tip:Check your computer settings or connect it to a power source to prevent your computer from entering sleep mode or turning off. Editordeleteafile On your device, do one of the following: tTo edit a file thaths stored on your computer, tap the file. If your BlackBerry device supports editing the file, tap . If you save your changes in the default location, indicates when BlackBerry Link is syncing the file and overwriting the original version on your computer. tTo permanently delete a file from your device thaths stored on your computer, touch and hold a file. You can back up your settings, phone history, fonts, saved searches, messages, organizer data, browser bookmarks, and media files. You should regularly create and save a backup file on your computer, especially before you update any software. Maintaining a current backup file on your computer might allow you to recover device data if your device is lost, stolen, or corrupted by an unforeseen issue. Note:If your device is activated on BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10, contact your administrator to verify if you are able to back up and restore your device data. SetbackuppreferencesinBlackBerryLink You can set the option to back up your BlackBerry device automatically when you connect your device to your computer. You can also customize the backup file name that BlackBerry Link creates and select which types of data to include in your backup file. tTo restore data from a backup file that is not listed, click Change. Navigate to the .bbb file or .ipd file. Click OK. tTo remove all of your device data and restore your device to its default factory settings, click Restoretofactorysettings. 7.Click Restore. AboutupdatingyourdevicesoftwarewithBlackBerryLink You might want to update your device software for any of the following reasons: tTo access the latest apps and features tTo resolve a technical issue tYour service provider requires that you update your device software If a new version of the device software is available for your device, a notification appears on your computer, beside your device name in BlackBerry Link. You can choose to automatically download device software updates as well as updates to BlackBerry Link software. Your data and settings are automatically restored on your device when the software update is complete. It could take up to an hour to update your device software. During that time, you canht disconnect your device from your computer. UpdateyourdevicesoftwarewithBlackBerryLink Before you begin, make sure that your computer is connected to the Internet. 1.On your computer, open BlackBerry Link. 2.Connect your device to your computer with a USB cable. 3.At the side of the BlackBerry Link window, click your device. 4.Click SoftwareUpdates > CheckforUpdates. 5.If a software update is available, click InstallUpdate. Note:If you want software updates to be installed automatically when you connect your device to BlackBerry Link, select the Automaticallydownloadupdatesforyourdevicesoftwareand BlackBerryLink checkbox. RestoreyourdevicetoitsfactorydefaultsettingsusingBlackBerryLink If you restore your BlackBerry device to its default settings, BlackBerry Link deletes all of the data and third-party applications from your device. Any IT policies that are applied to your device are also deleted. After you restore your device to its default settings, you can run the setup application on your device to begin using the device again. Before you begin, you should back up your data so that you have a copy on your computer. CAUTION:You canht stop the process of restoring your device to its default settings after you start it. If you donht see your computer as a source in the File Manager app, try the following: 1.Minimize the File Manager app and verify that you donht see the icon on the app. If you see this icon, use the File Manager app in your personal space. 2.On the home screen, swipe down from the top of the screen. 3.Verify that your device is connected to a wireless network. 4.Tap Settings. 5.Do the following: tIn the BlackBerryID section, verify that you are signed in using the same BlackBerry ID as on your computer. tIf your device is connected to a mobile network instead of a Wi-Fi network, in the Device Connections section, turn on the UseMobileNetwork switch. tIn the DeviceConnections section, verify that the AllowConnections switch is turned on. If you still canht see your computer files, on your computer, try any of the following: tVerify that your computer is turned on and not in sleep mode. tVerify that your computer has an active Internet connection. tConfirm that you are signed in to your BlackBerryID in BlackBerry Link. tVerify that the files that you want to access are in the location that is specified in BlackBerry Link. tSome work or public networks might prevent you from accessing your files on your device. Applicationsandfeatures Organizingapps Leaveanapporcloseanapp Instead of closing an app when youhre done using it, you can make multitasking easier by minimizing an app. You can see your open apps arranged as Active Frames on the home screen, and you can tap an Active Frame to return the app to full screen. Once you minimize an app, you can close it from the home screen. 1.To minimize an app, swipe up from the bottom of the screen. The app is arranged as an Active Frame on the home screen. 2.To close an app after you minimize it, on the home screen, on an Active Frame, tap . Moveanappiconoropenapparoundthehomescreen You can rearrange the app icons or open apps on the home screen so that they are where you want them to be. For instance, if youhre right-handed, you can arrange your frequently used apps on the right side of the screen. Addfolderstothehomescreen You can organize your app icons by adding folders to the home screen. For example, you can add a folder for all of the games that you download and a folder for all of your business and productivity apps. To hide unused apps, you can add a folder to the home screen and put all of your unused apps in that folder. 1.Touch and hold an app icon until all of the icons start to blink. 2.Drag the app icon on top of another app icon that you want to include in the same folder. 3.Type the name of the folder. 4.Tap Create. Moveanappiconoutofafolder 1.In a folder on the home screen, touch and hold an app icon until all of the icons start to blink. 2.Drag the app icon to the bottom of the screen and release. Deletingapps You can delete apps from the home screen of your BlackBerry device, or you can delete the apps that you download from the BlackBerry World storefront.
