There are two ways you can switch to a BlackBerry 10 device: tThe Device Switch app tBlackBerry Link If you are switching from a BlackBerry 7 device, you can also use a media card to transfer data. Preparingtoswitchdevices Before you begin switching to your new BlackBerry 10 device, take a moment to make sure that you have completed the following list. tComplete all of the instructions in the Setup app that opens the first time that your BlackBerry 10 device starts after you insert the battery. tIf you have information saved to your SIM card, such as contact information, save the data to the storage space on your previous device or your media card before you begin to switch devices. tIf you have any usernames or passwords saved on your previous device, such as your BlackBerry ID, consider temporarily writing this information down so that you have it when youhre ready to add accounts to your new device. UpdateBBM Although iths not required to switch BlackBerry devices, you should update to the latest available version of BBM and associate BBM with your BlackBerry ID before you switch devices. 1.To see which version of BBM youhre running on your old device, look for BlackBerryMessenger in your list of installed applications. 2.To download BBM 7.0 or later on your old device, visit the BlackBerry World storefront or www.bbm.com. If you canht update your version of BBM, in BBM, press the key > Options > BackUp. Select a backup option. In order to use the Device Switch app, both of your devices should be connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Note:Some corporate Wi-Fi networks block the Device Switch app from working. Iths recommended that you use a personal Wi-Fi network when transferring data using the Device Switch app. 1.On your BlackBerry 10 device, go to BlackBerryAppWorld and download the Device Switch app. 2.Connect both of your devices to the same Wi-Fi network. 3.To transfer your data, complete instructions on the screen. This feature is designed to move the data in your personal space but not the data in your work space. Only the data saved locally in your device storage space is transferred. Any data that is wirelessly backed up or synchronized with an online account isnht transferred to your new device. 1.On your previous device, click Setup > DeviceSwitch. 2.Click UsingaMediaCard > SaveData. 3.Complete the instructions on the screen. 4.When the backup is complete, remove the media card from your previous device and insert it into your BlackBerry 10 device. 5.On your BlackBerry 10 device, on the home screen, tap > . 6.Complete the instructions on the screen. TransfercontactinfousingaSIMcard Your BlackBerry 10 device uses a micro SIM card.
