Connections – Using Tyros4 with Other Devices –
Formatting a USB Storage Device or Internal Hard Disk Drive
To format a USB storage device or internal hard disk drive, execute  the format operation.
If you want to format a USB  storage device, make sure that  a USB storage device is con-
nected to the [USB TO DEVICE] terminal beforehand.
1Call up the operation display.

By connecting a computer to the [USB TO HOS T] terminal, you can transfer data between 
the Tyros4 and the computer via MIDI, and use the computer to cont rol, edit and organize 
data on the Tyros4. For exampl e, you can use the included Voice Editor program to edit 
the Tyros4’s Custom Voices.
Connecting to a Computer
You need to install a USB-MIDI driver to 
connect the computer and the instru-

Accessing an Internal Hard Disk Driv e on the Tyros4 from the Computer 
(USB Storage Mode)
When the USB Storage mode is selected, Wave  files and Song files can be transferred 
between the internal hard disk drive of the Ty ros4 and the computer. In the “normal” mode 
the USB connection can be used for MIDI c ontrol. The USB interface does not directly 
handle audio signals.

The sophisticated MIDI functions give you powerful tools to expand your music performance and creation possibilities.

Installing the Optional Speakers
Make sure that you have all of the parts be low, included in the TRS-MS04 speaker package.
1Turn the Tyros4’s power off, and disconnect the AC power cord. 
Also, make sure to disconnect the keyboard from any other 
external devices.
2Insert the two speaker brackets to the rear panel of the Tyros4.
3Fasten the satellite speakers to the left and right brackets.
4Use the RCA pin cables to connect the speakers to the respec-

5Use the RCA pin/8-pin combination cable to connect the sub-
woofer speaker to the respective outputs on the Tyros4.
6Connect the power plugs of the Tyros4 and the subwoofer to an 
appropriate AC outlet.
7First, set the volume controls (MASTER VOLUME on the Tyros4 
and MASTER VOLUME on the subwoofer) to minimum. Finally, 
turn on the power of the subwoofer, then the Tyros4.

Installing an optional flash memory expansion module to the Tyros4 allows you to import Wave files on a USB storage 
device or hard disk drive, letting you create your own original  Voices, Normal Voices and Drum Voices. (For information

3Remove the four screws from the cover.
4Insert the module into the socket by fol-
lowing the procedure below.

Insert the module vertically in the socket and 
position the screws (of the module) to the 
female screws respectively.
4-2Press the top of the connector as shown, then 
push the connector firmly into the socket.

Troubleshooting
Overall
A click or pop is heard when the power is 
turned on or off. This is normal. Electrical current 
is being applied to the instrument.
Noise is heard from the instrument. Noise may be heard if a mobile phone is used near the instrument or if the phone is  ringing. Turn off the mobile phone, or use it further away from the instrument. 
In the LCD display, there are some black 
points (unlit) or white points (always lit). These are the result of defective...
