    •  It is not possible to record continuously from one side of a double sided 
    disc to the other. You will need to eject the disc and turn it over.
    •  When using 8 cm (3Ž) DVD-RAM, remove the disc from the cartridge.
    •  You can record up to 99 titles on one disc.
    •  You can record digital broadcasts that allow “one time only recording” 
    when using CPRM (p. 74) compatible DVD-RAM discs. And you cannot 
    record digital broadcasts that allow “one time only recording” when using 
    DVD-R.
    •  DVD-RAM/DVD-R have limitations on recording (pp. 6-8).
    •  You cannot record on finalized DVD-R discs.
    •  Recording will take place on open space on the disc. Data will not be 
    overwritten.
    •  If there is no space left on the recording disc, you will need to erase 
    unwanted titles (pp. 53, 58) or use a new disc.
    1  Press OPEN/CLOSE on the unit to open the tray and 
    insert a disc. (p. 40)
    •  Press the button again to close the tray.
    •
    RAM When using a DVD-RAM for the first time with this unit, 
    format it to ensure accurate recording. (“Format Disc” on page 64.)

    •  You cannot change the channel or recording mode during recording.

    Recording modes and approximate recording 
    times
    Depending on the content being recorded, the recording times may 
    become shorter than indicated.
    *2  When “Recording time in EP mode” (p. 68) is set to “EP (6 Hour)” in the 
    SETUP menu. The sound quality is better when using “EP (6 Hour)” than 
    when using “EP (8 Hour)”.
    Note:•  When recording to DVD-RAM using “EP (8 Hour)” mode, play may not be 
    possible on DVD players that are compatible with DVD-RAM. In this case 
    use “EP (6 Hour)” mode.
    FR (Flexible Recording Mode) (See right.)
    The unit automatically selects a recording rate between XP and 
    EP (8 Hour) that will enable the recordings to fit in the available 
    recording time on the disc with the best possible recording quality.

    Notes:• “” flashes when the unit cannot go to timer recording standby (e.g., a 
    recordable disc is not in the disc tray). Check the disc carefully.
    •  When you program successive timer recordings to start immediately 
    one after the other, the unit cannot record the part at the beginning of 
    the later programs (a few seconds when recording with DVD-RAM and 
    approximately 30 seconds when recording with DVD-R).
    •  If you set DST (Daylight Saving Time) to On when manually setting the 
    clock (pp. 17-18), timer recording may not work when summer switches to 
    winter and vice versa.
    •  When the unit is carrying out a timer recording:
    -  You may utilize playback.
    •  When the disc is not inserted, the disc is full or a non-recordable disc 
    is inserted, the warning message appears because Timer Recording is 
    disabled.
    •  During Timer Recording, dubbing and editing are disabled.
    •  Timer recordings are automatically placed in order of DATE : ON 
    (Start Time). 
    •  If timer recording times overlap, the program with the earliest start time 
    is recorded first. The overlapped portion of the later program will not be 
    recorded.

    Recording from a video cassette

    Preparation•  Connect a video cassette recorder to this unit’s input terminals.
    Notes:•  When recording using this unit’s input terminals, only the sound received 
    at the time of recording will be recorded. As long as secondary audio that 
    is recorded on the video cassette is not output on the unit in play, it is not 
    recorded.

    •  When using 8 cm (3Ž) DVD-RAM, remove the disc from the cartridge.
    1  Press OPEN/CLOSE on the unit to open the tray and 
    insert a disc. (p. 40)
    •  Press the button again to close the tray.
    2 Press PLAY/×1.3.•  The unit takes some time to read the disc before play starts.
    Playing Discs
    „ To  stop
    Press STOP.
    • Press STOP again to return to the television screen.
    DVD-VCDMP3
    • When “PB” flashes on the Front Display, resume function is 
    active. (See below.)
    • The screen saver may appear when you stop play. Press 
    STOP again and you can use this units tuner to watch 
    television.
    • The unit will shut off automatically 5 minutes after you pressed 
    STOP during DVD playback in order to save energy.
    „ To  pause
    Press PAUSE.
    • Press again to restart play.
    When a menu screen appears on the
    television
    1 Press xz{y to select the item and press ENTER.•  Some items can also be selected using the NUMBER keys.
