R The date and time may be incorrect after a power failure. In this case, set the date and time again. Display language Y ou can select either “English ” or “Español ” as the display language. Base unit: M n N (EXIT) Handset: M OFF N Line selection mode T he line selection mode determines which line is selected when: – you lift the corded handset – you press M N on the base unit (when making/ answering calls) – you press M N /M N on the handset (when making/answering calls) The following setting is available: – “Auto ” (default): When making a call, line 1 is selected. If that line is unavailable, line 2 is selected. When you call back using the caller list (page 32) or while listening to a message (page 36, 37), the indicated line is used. When answering a call, the ringing line is selected. – “Line1 ”: Line 1 is selected. – “Line2 ”: Line 2 is selected. Making calls Using the base unit 1 Dial the phone number. RTo correct a digit, press MCLEAR N. 2 Lift the corded handset. RAn available line is automatically selected and either the LINE 1 indicator or LINE 2 indicator lights up. To change the line selection mode, see page 14. R You can also select the line manually by pressing MLINE 1 N or MLINE 2 N before lifting the corded handset. 3 When you finish talking, place the corded handset on the cradle. Note: R You can also dial the phone number after lifting the corded handset. R To switch to the cordless handset, press MLINE 1 N or MLINE 2 N on the cordless handset, then place the corded handset on the cradle. Using the speakerphone 1 D uring a conversation with the corded handset, press M N to turn on the speakerphone. R You can place the corded handset on the cradle. R Speak into the base unit microphone. R Speak alternately with the other party. 2 When you finish talking, press M N . N ote: R For best performance, use the speakerphone in a quiet environment. R To switch to the receiver, lift the corded handset. Using the handset 1 L ift the handset and dial the phone number. RTo correct a digit, press MCLEAR N. 2 Press M N . Making a call using the redial list Base unit / Handset T he last 10 phone numbers dialed are stored in the redial list (each 48 digits max.). 1 MREDIAL N 2 Mb N: Select the desired phone number. 3 Proceed with the operation for your unit. Base unit: Lift the corded handset. Handset: M N Erasing a number in the redial list 1 MR EDIAL N 2 Mb N: Select the desired phone number. a M ERASE N (Soft key) 3 Mb N: “Yes ” a M SELECT N 4 Proceed with the operation for your unit. the phonebook, a pause is also needed ( page 25). Example: If you need to dial the line access number “9” when making outside calls with a PBX: Base unit / Handset 1 9 a M P AUSE N 2 Dial the phone number. 3 Proceed with the operation for your unit. Base unit: Lift the corded handset. Handset: M N N ote: R A 3.5 second pause is inserted each time MPAUSE N is pressed. Repeat as needed to create longer pauses. Answering calls Using the base unit When a call is being received, the LINE 1 indicator a nd/or LINE 2 indicator on the base unit flashes rapidly. 1 Lift the corded handset or press M N when the unit rings. R The called line is automatically selected. To change the line selection mode, see page 14. R You can also answer the call by pressing MLINE 1 N or MLINE 2 N. 2 When you finish talking, place the corded handset on the cradle. When the speakerphone is used, press M N . Using the handset When a call is being received, the ringer indicator a nd and/or flashes rapidly. 1 L ift the handset and press M N or M N when the unit rings. R The called line is automatically selected. To change the line selection mode, see page 14. R You can also answer the call by pressing MLINE 1 N or MLINE 2 N. R You can also answer the call by pressing any dial key from 0 to 9, * , or #. (Any key answer feature) 2 W hen you finish talking, press MOFF N or place the handset on the charger. Auto talk Y ou can answer calls simply by lifting the handset off the charger. You do not need to press M N . T o turn this feature on, see page 28. Adjusting the ringer volume Base unit / Handset n W hile the unit is ringing for an incoming call: Press MD N or MC N repeatedly to select the desired volume. n Programming the volume beforehand: 1 MMENU N#160 2 Mb N: Select the desired line. a M SELECT N 3 Mb N: Select the desired volume. a M SAVE N 4 Proceed with the operation for your unit. Base unit: M n N (EXIT) Handset: M OFF N Temporary ringer off Base unit / Handset W hile the unit is ringing for a call, you can turn the ringer off temporarily by pressing M N on the base unit or MOFF N on the handset. Useful features during a call Hold T his feature allows you to put an outside call on hold. Base unit 1 P ress MHOLD N during an outside call. R If you are using the corded handset, you can place it on the cradle. 2 To release hold, press MLINE 1 N or MLINE 2 N that is flashing on the base unit. 2 To release hold, press MLINE 1 N or MLINE 2 N that is flashing on the handset. Note for base unit and handset: R If a call is kept on hold for more than 9 minutes, an alarm tone starts to sound and the ringer indicator on the handset flashes rapidly. After 1 additional minute on hold, the call is disconnected. R If another phone is connected to the same line, you can also take the call by lifting its handset. Mute W hile mute is turned on, you can hear the other party, but the other party cannot hear you. Base unit / Handset 1 P ress MMUTE N during conversation. R M MUTE N flashes. 2 To return to the conversation, press MMUTE N again. Note: R M MUTE N is a soft key visible on the display during a call. Flash Base unit / Handset M F LASH N allows you to use the special features of your host PBX such as transferring an extension call, or accessing optional telephone services. Note: R To change the flash time, see page 28. For call waiting or Call Waiting Caller I D service users To use call waiting or Call Waiting Caller ID, you must first subscribe with your service provider/ telephone company. This feature allows you to receive calls while you are already talking on the phone. If you receive a call while on the phone, you will hear a call waiting tone. If you subscribe to both Caller ID and Call Waiting with Caller ID services, the 2nd caller’s information is displayed on the base unit or handset that is in use after you hear the call waiting tone. Base unit / Handset 1 P ress MCALL WAIT N to answer the 2nd call. 2 To switch between calls, press MCALL WAIT N. Note: R Please contact your service provider/telephone company for details and availability of this service in your area. Temporary tone dialing (for rotary/ p ulse service users) You can temporarily switch the dialing mode to tone when you need to access touch-tone services (for example, answering services, telephone banking services, etc.). Base unit / Handset P ress * (TONE) before entering access numbers which require tone dialing. Call share Y ou can join an existing outside call. Base unit T o join the conversation, press MLINE 1 N or MLINE 2 N to select the line that is being used by another extension for an outside call, then lift the corded handset. Handset T o join the conversation, press MLINE 1 N or MLINE 2 N to select the line that is being used by another extension for an outside call. Note for base unit and handset: R A maximum of 3 parties (including 1 outside party) can join a conversation. (3-way conference) Privacy mode W hen the privacy mode is “On ”, the unit prevents other users from joining your conversations with outside callers. You can turn the feature on for both lines by programming the base unit before the call. To allow other users to join your conversations, leave this feature off. The default setting is “Off ”. Note for base unit and handset: After you hang up the call, the feature will return to the setting programmed on page 17. Using the other line during a c all You can use the other line in the following ways: – When a call is being received on the other line during a conversation, an interrupt tone will be heard (page 28). You can answer the 2nd call while holding the 1st call. – During an outside call, you can also make a call using the other line by holding the 1st call. Base unit E xample: If you are using line 1: 1 Press MHOLD N to put the 1st call (line 1) on hold. 2 Press MLINE 2 N to make or answer a 2nd call. R To hold the 2nd call, press MHOLD N. 3 T o return to the 1st call (line 1), press MLINE 1 N. Handset E xample: If you are using line 1: 1 Press MHOLD N 2 times to put the 1st call (line 1) on hold. 2 Press MLINE 2 N to make or answer a 2nd call. R To hold the 2nd call, press MHOLD N 2 times. 3 To return to the 1st call (line 1), press MLINE 1 N. Installing the “Telephone Plug-in” B efore installing “Telephone Plug-in”, make sure of the following: – Microsoft Office Outlook is installed on your computer. – The base unit is not connected to your computer with the mini USB cable (until instructed to do so). 1 Start Windows and exit all other applications. RYou must be logged in as an administrator in order to install “Telephone Plug-in”. 2 Insert the included CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive. RInstallation starts automatically. If the installation does not start, see page 49. R For Microsoft Windows Vista and Microsoft Windows 7 users: Click [Run Setup.exe] when prompted. 3 When the language selection window is displayed, select the desired language and click [Next] . 4 When the “Telephone Plug-in” window is displayed, click [Next]. 5 Read the license agreement carefully. If you accept the terms of the license agreement, check the box and click [Next]. 6 W hen the “Telephone Plug-in” install shield wizard is displayed, click [Install]. 7 When installation is finished, click [Finish] to complete the installation. Then remove the CD-ROM from your CD-ROM drive. Uninstalling the “Telephone Plug-in” 1 E xit all applications and disconnect the mini USB cable from your computer. 2 To uninstall “Telephone Plug-in”, perform the following procedure: From the Start menu: Point to [All Programs] a [Panasonic] a [Telephone Plug-in] , and click [Uninstall] . 3 When the uninstall confirmation window is displayed, click [Yes] to start uninstallation. 4 When uninstallation is finished, click [Finish] to exit the uninstallation. Connecting a computer to the base u nit with mini USB cable “Telephone Plug-in” must be installed before connecting the base unit to your computer. Making a call from “ Telephone Plug-in” When “Telephone Plug-in” is installed correctly, a toolbar appears in the Microsoft Office Outlook display. You can make calls from the base unit speakerphone using the toolbar. Making a call from the Microsoft O utlook contact list Microsoft Office Outlook 2010 users 1 F ind and double click the desired contact. 2 Click [Phone numbers ] . ----( A) 3 Click the phone number you want to call. ----(B) 4 Click [Call from line1] or [Call from line2] to select the desired line. ----( C) R The base unit automatically dials the number with the speakerphone.
