Charge the battery for about 15 hours before initial use (p. 11). Base Unit Location/Noise Calls are transmitted between the base unit and the cordless handset using wireless radio waves. For maximum distance and noise-free operation , the recommended base unit location is: Note: • If you use the cordless handset near a microwave oven which is being used, noise may be heard from the receiver or the speaker. Move away from the microwave oven and closer to the base unit. • If you use the cordless handset near another cordless phone’s base unit, noise may be heard. Move away from the other cordless phone’s base unit and closer to your base unit. Location of Controls 8 How to use the navigator keys/soft keys Navigator keys These keys have four active areas that are indicated by the arrows. Lighted handset keypad The dialing buttons will light when you press a button or lift the cordless handset off the charger. The light will go out after a few seconds.•Scrolls up the function menu, Caller List and the directory list. •Increases the volume. •Scrolls down the function menu, Caller List and the directory list. •Decreases the volume. •Selects your menu choices, enters the directory list or moves the cursor forward. •Enters the directory list, returns to the previous display or moves the cursor backward. Throughout these Operating Instructions, the navigator keys are indicated by the arrows [] , [] , [] or [] . Cordless handset soft keys Example Three soft keys are used to select functions displayed directly above the keys. Functions displayed above the keys will change depending on the state of use. For example, on the left display, “ ” and “ ” are displayed above the soft keys. To operate “ ”, press the right soft key. To operate “ ”, press the left soft key. •When a function does not appear above a soft key, the soft key will not work. Throughout these Operating Instructions, the soft keys are indicated by the function icons, such as , and . When “” (clock icon) flashes, the clock needs adjusting (p. 16). “” (directory icon) is displayed when storing, viewing, copying or receiving the directory items (p. 33–38). “PRIVACY” indicates Call Privacy mode is on (p. 44). Other extension users cannot join your conversation. The display shows the dialed number, call status, programming options, directory items, Caller ID information etc. The time and date are displayed on the base unit. “” (extension icon) is displayed with the extension numbers a) during an intercom call (p. 39) or a conference call (p. 43); b) while monitoring a room (p. 45); c) while in 2-Way Radio mode (p. 47). Each mailbox icon ( , or ) will flash if there is at least one new message in the mailbox (p. 53). If a mailbox has only old messages, the icon will not flash but remain lit. If a mailbox has no messages, the mailbox icon will not be displayed. “SP” is shown when you are using the handset speaker a) during an intercom call (p. 39) or a conference call (p. 43); b) while listening to messages (p. 55); c) while monitoring a room (p. 45); d) while in 2-Way Radio mode (p. 47). The battery icon indicates the battery strength (p. 11). The extension number of your cordless handset is displayed if it has been registered to the base unit (p. 23, 67). The prompts on the bottom line will show corresponding functions of the soft keys which are located directly below the display (p. 8). Ex. The soft key below “ ” will function as key. Backlit LCD displays The lighted display of the cordless handset will stay on for a few seconds after pressing a button or lifting the cordless handset off the charger. 10 Installation Connections Base unit •Base unit: USE ONLY WITH Panasonic AC ADAPTOR PQLV10 (Order No. PQLV10Z). •Use Only a Panasonic Handset for the KX-TG2770S. •The AC adaptor must remain connected at all times. (It is normal for the adaptor to feel warm during use.) •If your unit is connected to a PBX which does not support Caller ID, you cannot access Caller ID services. Charger unit During a power failure the base unit will work as a standard telephone, so that you can make or answer external calls with the base unit handset. You cannot use the base unit speakerphone and the cordless handset. •If power returns to the base unit while having a conversation using the base unit handset, you will not be able to use the speakerphone nor the cordless handset and the display will be blank until you hang up the call.
