If a greeting message is not recorded, one of two pre-recorded greetings will be played when a call is received (p. 25). All messages (greeting, incoming, etc.) are stored in digital memory (p. 25). Thetotal recording time is about 15 minutes. We recommend you record a brief greeting message(see sample on the next page) in order to leave more time for recording new messages. All messages are saved until you erase them. Your phone comes from the factory set to “3 minutes”. Make sure the base unit and cordless handset are not being used. 1 Press (FUNCTION/EDIT). 2 Scroll to “Set answering” by pressing (›)or (‹). 3 Press (fl)(Yeskey). 4 Scroll to “Recording time” by pressing (›)or (‹). 5 Press (fl)(Yeskey). ≥The current setting is displayed. 6 Select the recording time by pressing (›) or (‹). ≥You can also select the recording time by pressing dialing buttons (1)(1 minute), (2) (2 minutes), (3)(3 minutes) or (0)(Greeting only). 7 Press (fl)(Savekey). ≥A beep sounds. ≥To exit the programming mode, press (EXIT/STOP). ≥You can exit the programming mode any time by pressing (EXIT/STOP). 28 Making Calls (Cordless\Handset) To have a hands-free conversation, connect an optional headset to the handset (p. 76). 1 Press . 2 Dial a phone number. ≥The dialed number is displayed. ≥After a few seconds, the display will show the length of the call and the battery strength. 3 To hang up, press (OFF)or place the cordless handset on the charger. ≥“Line in use” is displayed on the base unit while the cordless handset is engaged in an outside call. ≥If the cordless handset has lost communication with the base unit, 3 beeps sound and “No link to base. To put a call on hold Press (CLEAR/INTERCOM/HOLD). ≥“Line on HOLD.” is displayed on the base unit. ≥The DIGITAL SP-PHONE indicator flashes. ≥If you put a call on hold for more than 6 minutes, an alarm tone will sound. The call will be disconnected after a total of 10 minutes. ≥To transfer the call to the base unit, see page 55. To release the hold From the cordless handset, press . From the base unit, press (DIGITAL–SP-PHONE)or lift the handset. ≥If another phone is connected on the same line (p. 78), you can also release the hold by lifting its handset. To select the receiver volume Press (‹)or (›)while talking. ≥Each time you press (‹)or (›), the volume level will change among 3 levels (HIGH, MEDIUM or LOW). ≥The display will return to the length of the call. Lighted cordless handset keypad The cordless handset dialing buttons will light when you press a button or lift the cordless handset off the charger, and flash when a call is received. The lights will go out a few seconds after pressing a button to start operations, lifting the cordless handset or answering a call or pressing a button to complete operations such as hanging up a call, leaving the Caller List/Directory or programming.
