Step 1: Setting up TCP/IP on the computer Step 2: Setting up TCP/IP for the printer Select a network printing method before proceeding the step 3. • When printing directly from a computer to the printer, perform steps 3 and 4 on each computer (Windows 95, Windows 98 or Windows Me). • When printing through the shared computer (server), perform steps 3 to 5 on the server computer (Windows 95, Windows 98 or Windows Me), then perform step 6 on each client computer (Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows NT 4.0 or Windows 2000). Step 3: Installing LPR Port on the computer Step 4: Setting up the printer driver and the printer port on the computer Step 5: Sharing the printer port on the server computer Step 6: Setting up the printer driver and the printer port on the client computer n Step 1: Setting up TCP/IP on the computer If the TCP/IP protocol is already installed on your computer and it is configured, proceed to the next step. If it is not installed, you need to install TCP/IP in the operating system on the computer and configure it. If the administrator manages the IP address, contact him/her to confirm the values before setting the TCP/IP. Be sure to assign the unique value for the IP address that is not used for the other devices in the network. Refer to the example of “Using the Network Setup Tool” on page 9. To confirm that the IP address is set correctly, see page 14. Regarding the configuration of TCP/IP, refer to the help menu or documentation for Windows. Setup in Windows Settings and Printing Network Network Maintenance and Spec. 9 n Step 2: Setting up TCP/IP for the printer You need to set the IP address, Subnet Mask and Default Gateway for the printer. Set them by using one of the following three methods. You may need to contact your network administrator to select the best way. • Using the DHCP server • Using the Network Setup Tool •Using the Remote Control Panel (see “Remote Control Panel” on page 23 in “Settings and Printing”) NOTE • You can also setup the printer using BOOTP, RARP or ARP. n Using the DHCP server If the administrator manages the network with DHCP server, it is possible to assign IP address, Subnet Mask and Default Gateway automatically from DHCP server by default. Those can be viewed by printing out the configuration page. It can be printed by pressing the PRINT/RESET button on the printer panel less than 5 seconds . NOTE • If the printer receives the IP address with unlimited lease term, the printer keeps the address permanently. The printer saves the address statically and the DHCP function becomes disable automatically. n Using the Network Setup Tool If the administrator manages the IP address, contact him/her to confirm the values before the setup. If not, set the unique value that is not used for the other devices on the network. Refer to the example shown below. Example (assigning the IP address, Subnet Mask and Default Gateway) IP address: 172.16.x.x (x: you can choose any number from 0-255 except 0.0 and 255.255) Be sure that the IP address is not assigned to the other devices. Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0 It is the same value for all devices. Default Gateway: Not required. (It is not necessary to set.) Downloaded From ManualsPrinter.com Manuals
